Ebola (1 Viewer)

The outbreak has killed more than 3,860 people, mainly in West Africa.
Sub-Saharan Africa has the most serious HIV and AIDS epidemic in the world. In 2012, roughly 25 million people were living with HIV, accounting for nearly 70 percent of the global total. In the same year, there were an estimated 1.6 million new HIV infections and 1.2 million AIDS-related deaths. 1 - See more at: http://www.avert.org/hiv-aids-sub-saharan-africa.htm#sthash.mrhUPy3E.dpuf
More people die in Africa from AIDS in two days than the total number of people who have died from ebola.
So this is what the African Nations have to offer the rest of the world....
this is a phenomenally ignorant perspective. well done

Why is it so hard to go onto a major news site and figure out if there is a 2nd case here? What happened to that first responder?
false alarm. He had a stomach ache and panicked. Just to be sure they are testing him and the results come back today.

He had no fever.
:lmao: I bet his co-workers are going to give him #### for this.
Honestly, I don't blame him. I feel like I have Ebola just from reading this thread. I can only imagine if I walked in to the apartment of someone who died from it.
It is good that the sheriff's deputy does not have Ebola. But I am troubled by what this guy does for a living."The large-framed Monnig once worked as a sort of human punching bag for incoming Dallas County police recruits who learned how to use batons by beating Monnig.

At least that was his job until 2008, when Monnig was temporarily terminated from the police force after getting seriously injured during one of his brutal training sessions. "

i responded to the idiotic view that the "African Nations" only have aids and ebola to contribute to the world. was there a legitimate question in that incredibly ignorant, racist, xenophobic statement that I missed?

I'm in a coffee shop that has a bunch of nurses in scrubs. I'm going to catch Ebola aren't i?
I think Ebola catches you...
You can catch Ebola the extact same way you catch the flu. Neither viruses are airborne but transmitted through droplets of bodily fluids within 6 feet and contaminated surfaces.

One of the Ebola discoverers, Peter Piot, said, "I wouldn't be worried to sit next to someone with Ebola virus on the Tube as long as they don't vomit on you or something. This is an infection that requires very close contact."

I thought you meant that the post - "So this is what the African Nations have to offer the rest of the world...." was an ignorant perspective. Racist & xenophobic as well, apparently.

Since I'm not well versed in what African nations DO have to offer, I'd thought maybe you could enlighten me...and others here as well. Some people probably think that Africa is a 3rd world continent, aside from Egypt & S. Africa perhaps.

Africa makes the rocks that women like to put on their fingers. I don't think we have the same minerals here in the US.

There are plenty of threads here that welcome racist or xenophobic idiocy. Let's try to keep this one about making fun of Rambo freaking out. Thanks!

The day that Ebola is as contagious as the flu is when we should all react to it the way you've been doing.

Canada is urging their citizens to fly home from West Africa "while they still can".

Two days ago, my boss asked if I would spend a couple of weeks in India. I replied, "can you guarantee that I can get back into the country?". Eating curry everyday as my sole defense against Ebola seems less than ideal to me.

CNN's description of Ebola sounds just like the flu to me.

I dont understand what this means. Why wouldn't you be allowed back into the US? Are you here illegally?

Your only concern about going to India is catching Ebola? There are no cases of Ebola in India. OTOH there are hundreds of other diseases that can kill you.

Really? Like what? A guy in the next office near mine went on holiday and came back with an antibiotic resistant virus. He recovered after a year but claimed he caught it in England and not India - he had spent time in both countries.

So therefore India is sanitary? Dude, people still wipe their asses with their left hands in that cesspool. Ebola is the last thing I'd worry about in India.

Thanks, it all makes much more sense to me now. The bacteria would explain why he rushed to the ER for blood poisoning each time he had an attack.

So what's the correct answer?
Oil. The ones that don't have any, we really could care less about. Once in a while we'll make a 1/2 ### attempt to help an African country with no oil reserves just to throw the commoners off.

They have already said this is theoretically possible though not proven in a lab. I think the safe bet is to say "we don't know". It's not as if this strain has been rigorously tested.

This person contracted it even though he/she was wearing full protective gear?
No. I'm pretty sure the only way to contact it is to slice into an infected person's carotid artery with a rusty pocket knife, chug at least a full pint of their blood straight from the artery, then chase it with a quart of the infected person's vomit while a 2nd infected person sneezes in your face at least 5 times within 60 seconds.

No idea how healthcare workers keep contracting a disease that's virtually impossible to contract though.

Wow, that is scary. Just heard about this, and was assuming they had been in contact with him during the first visit. If they caught it while in full gear, that is some seriously scary ####.

Reverse 911 calls placed within 4 block radius of new patient's apartment. You know you're having a bad day when 911 calls you.

Perhaps they should rethink procedures on this thing and stop handling it like the flu.

The standard gown, gloves, mask, and shield that this nurse was wearing is obviously not going to cut it.

She was NOT in a full suit.

One Spanish nurse in Africa caught ebola by touching her forehead while removing her protective gear after treating ebola patients. It is though that sweat transported the virus into her eye.

But it doesn't contract as easily as the flu. You have to download the Ebola app onto your iPhone and agree to the terms of service to catch it.
