Eddie Royal-WR Denver (1 Viewer)

Everybody loves this kid; talk of the camp. Although I remember everyone loved Darius Watts too. But this kid is special. :goodposting:

I had him in my top 12 rookies back in March before eventually moving him down a little bit. He jumped out at me in highlights and looked very fluid in the WR drills at the combine. I'm a fan. I have him in 4 out of my 7 dynasty leagues. I think he has Laveranues Coles upside.

I hope he does well.

The way I hear it is that they feel Royal gives them a better chance to stretch the field and utilize Cutler's arm.

Really, with Marshall missing at least 2 if not 3 games (I know, he's appealing, but...), it makes sense to make this move/announcement now to get him ready. Opening against the secondaries at Oakland and vs. San Diego will certainly put him to the test.

Any Homers on there that watched or know the scoop on Royal? I picked him up in my draft because I saw he got the #2 spot. Sucks that Marshall isnt out longer, it would have only helped royal get more action.

The Broncos released Glenn Martinez, who was listed as the KR. Royal is the PR. Does this mean he will return kickoffs too?

If so, he could be golden in leagues that give points for return yardage.

I picked him up off waivers to cover week 1 (Marshall owner). He'll most likely be up against DeA. Hall, but hopefully he'll still give me some production as my #3 WR :goodposting: If he keeps playing well, all the better

D-Jack will take Marshall's place as the Z, then move to the slot with Stokley when he comes back.

Royal stays in the Y.

Hearing great things about him, but torn about dropping a rookie RB who might blow up or Meachem (who apprently still can't run routes well enough to move ahead of Henderson).

I dont know your league set up nor your own roster, but WHY would you keep Meachem over Royal right now? Royal is, and likely will be a starter for a good offense. Meachem is in the mix with a ton of other guys. Not a tough choice there. In terms of the RB, depends who it is and whether you think they will have a real opportunity this year. If you are ok at WR then you may want a 1/30 chance to hit it big with a backup RB. If you are not, then I wouldnt gamble on a huge longshot when you have one in the hand with Royal, all other things being equal.

so the consensus is that a rookie, Royal, is going to better than the veteran, Jackson? I am always leary to drop a veteran for a rookie because 9 times out of 10 it bites me in the backside. In the past when I have done this the rookie makes a bonehead mistake, the veteran steps up and ends up having a productive season. All the while the rookie rides the pine until next year, bah what to do.

Great to hear. I like Royal's chances against Asomugha :goodposting:
Asomugha is probably one of the top 3 cover corners in the league. He's better than Hall. I don't like anyone's chances vs him.
There's a few things working against Royal here.Rookie WR, in his first game, against a very good cover corner. He could be the focus point for the defense. I'd find better options for week 1. But, I love this kid long term. At least for his rookie year, he'll benefit more from Marshall being on the field than if he were the top WR.

he's making his fellow alum, dhall, look stupid...

shanny's got to thank his lucky stars that royal's talent wasn't really realized with glennon at vt...

HA! So much for those juggernaut corners. Royal is lighting it up.
The quicker, shiftier, better route runners appear to be the better WRs to use against the supposed shut down corners. It's hard to cover speed and quickness, but when you throw in superb route-running it makes it that more difficult. That's exactly what Eddie Royal brings to the table. I thought he may be a year away from really producing (only have him in one league), but he and DeSean Jackson appear to have arrived in the NFL in what is a changing offensive philosophy - smart, speedy, shifty possession WRs. The NFL is a copy cat league. What may have started with Derrick Mason, Steve Smith, Santana Moss, Wes Welker, even Reggie Bush etc, is becoming a trend and those who have the right personnel for the system are cashing in.

He needs 19 more yards to be the third rookie WR since 1995 to gain 100+ yards receiving in his debut.

2003 Anquan Boldin, 217 yds

2008 DeSean Jackson, 106 yds

2008 Eddie Royal, 81 yds and counting... (edit, now he needs two yards)

I was skeptical at first but now I'm a believer. Royal is legit.

Does anybody think this might hold down Marshalls numbers this year?

Actually I was thinking it would make Cutler a top5 QB
with the den running game looking mediocre (or worse) vs a suspect rush D, i suspect there will be plenty of passes to go around this season... it looks like shanny is grasping at straws looking for a reliable rusher this game

Denver's offense looks a lot like 07 New England. Lots of accurate passes against one of the better pass defenses in the league, no less. Eddie Royal, the new Wes Welker?

I don't have Cutler in any dynasty leagues, but you have to encouraged by what we've seen tonight. This team will have a loaded passing offense once Marshall returns from suspension.

I wish Marshall was still suspended for 2 more games......well i guess there is still time....

ASU alumni here. Shanny will have his running game when Ryan Torain returns from injury. Watched a lot of his games in college and that kid is also the real deal.

Royal looks as advertised (if not better). I grabbed Marshall in r3 and was hoping to get Royal late but someone snagged him. IMO, Royal's success is really great news for Marshall. Should open up a lot of deep stuff for Marshall while Royal does the damage underneath.

I hate to say it as I despise the Broncos, but they are going to have a very effective passing game this season. Cutler def. has the looks of a top 5 QB with this cast.

I know what people say about the steep learning curve for rookie WRs but sometimes players come along who just have IT. Royal has IT... big time.

I could see him breaking 1000 yards this season... of course Marshall will do his thing and is still the go to guy, but the two will compliment each other very well. Denver will rely heavily on the pass this season, as it is clearly their strength for the first time in a long time, and those who are saying Cutler is looking like a top 5 QB are right on.

What I really appreciate is how they built this juggernaut passing game almost completely through their last three drafts, getting Cutler, Marshall, and Scheffler two years ago, and Royal this season.

Honestly I think if a Royal owner gets good offer for him, sell high. Royal will be good, but this will be his high game of the year. He's catching Brandon Marshall's passes tonight.
