WOOT!

Now, this flashed by REAL quick on the screen... Im 95% sure thats what I saw and if so, great for the Giants.

EDIT: Giants apparantly willing to give 6. If Strahan really wants back at 8, they will work this out.

Story was from Ralph Vacchino of the Daily News.

Take it FWIW as the source is neither Strahan or rock solid: "according to two sources familiar with his situation" Strahan wants $8M, double what his current contract would pay him for this season, to "encourage" him to play.

Also, Strahan said the other day that he was "pretty much" made up his mind as to whether or not he will play this year, although he would not reveal what that decision was.

We're getting into Favre territory here, which makes it all the more fitting that Favre took a dive for him to get the sack record a few years back.

This is more of the same from big 'ol Michael. Strahan was not going to retire last offseason but did his best to avoid calling it a money based holdout and instead labelled it a "desire to play" issue. Strahan had outlasted the big money part of his contract and knew he was unlikely to get another huge payday from NY. However he had one thing going for him ... Coughlin's newfound leadership council that really needed the buy-in of veterans. Strahan hadn't been a big TC supporter previously but he was able to essentially miss the entire preseason, avoid large fines, and still suit up. If memory serves the Giants even gave him a small bump in pay too. #92 saw his opportunity and took full advantage.

I'd be surprised to see the Giants cave too much this season. They likely want Strahan to return but they also likely believe they can win without him. Strahan may be able to avoid most of the preseason again, and potentially even avoid major fines, but I don't see any way he gets 8 mil.

Last I heard, Gmen offerred 6.5 which includes incentives that if reached he'd get 8. He wants the 8 up front. Doesn't seem like a huge gap to keep them from working this out.

I say he plays regardless. I am not sure what he has made throughout his career (or still has for that matter), but I know the divorce took a major financial toll on him and regardless of whether he makes it as an announcer after his career is over, he will need the big pay day before he goes to pasture (and $6 million is better than nothing).

 Strahan divorce - costs $15mm+:

In addition...

1) $18k per month in child support

2) $311k in back child support

3) 91% of children's private school tuition (thru 2026)

Keep in mind this ruling was given while Strahan's net worth was "only" $22mm. If these numbers are fact, the guy has maybe $5mm-$7mm in net worth despite playing two decades in the NFL.

He'll play.
