Edwards Out -> Fitzpatrick In (1 Viewer)

Quick decision out of Buffalo:

It's only Week Three, but it's starting to feel real late to a lot of NFL teams.

The Buffalo Bills were the latest team to change quarterbacks when Chan Gailey announced that Ryan Fitzpatrick would get the start against the Patriots this Sunday.

"We're looking for a spark," said Gailey.

Gailey started Edwards in every preseason game and gave him the most first team snaps throughout training camp. Despite that, Gailey has given up on Edwards quickly, just like **** Jauron did last year.

Edwards completed 29-of-52 passes for 241 yards with one touchdown and two picks in two games. That's a 4.6 yards per attempt average, which is well below his career mark.

Gailey said Fitzpatrick will be the starter moving forward; it's not a temporary move.

That's like upgrading from a Ford Pinto to a Yugo. Sure, it won't burst into flames when it gets touched. But your ride still sucks.

They are looking for a spark??? How about giving the rookie you drafted in the top ten a few carries!!!

Bump Lee Evans up to 2 targets a game.........
Can we bump CJ Spiller to 2 carries a game now as well??
LOL, the Marshawn thing came out of nowhere. No indication all week he was going to see the bulk of carries. Obviously, assuming they were showcasing him to Green Bay.I just feel bad for Lee Evans. Minnesota should be on the phone for him. Having Lee in Buffalo right now is like owning an 8 million dollar snow blower in Florida.

yes it matters. fitzpatrick isn't scared sh#tless to throw the ball down the field 20+ yards and has more mobility.

it might be tyler thigpen 2008 all over again. gailey made that stiff into a bit of a fantasy force for a while.

Yeah...wasn't he the "spark" they were lookign for when they drafted him and he was going to be used in so many different ways. What a waste of an NFL team.Same old recycled dolt coaches still thinking it works like it did in the 70's. I feel bad for all the players on that team that are just wasting away their careers.

Then how about giving the ninth overall pick and future of your franchise more than 1 carry? *Spiller owner*

What a joke of a franchise. Everyone knew that Edwards was on shaky ground, yet the team made NO EFFORT to bring in another quarterback to compete against him.

They should have plugged Jeff Garcia in during the offseason. At least he's a gamer. Unless you're going after the 1st draft pick for next year.

It doesn't matter...both suck.
This may be the first time, and hopefully last...I agree. They need a QB in the worst way. The only time Buffalo has had any success for any length of time has been when they ran a hurry up vertical passing attack (K-Gun) or had a QB that could simply make things happen (Flutie)Perhaps they will run it like the Pats...lots of spread and shotgun, lots of shotgun handoffs and draw and screens mixed in with deep shots to Lee Evans...I feel like they have all the pieces for a better than decent offense even with Fitzpatrick back there...

Fitzpatrick went off for like 300 yds and 3 TDs in his first real NFL action when he came in for Bulger in Stl. He followed that up w/ a stinker or two but he showed he can put up some #s.

Fitzpatrick has light years better mobility & pocket presence than Edwards, but is much less accurate. For a team with a horrible pass blocking O-line, I think Fitz is better. He's an average QB with below-avg accuracy, but he just seems to makes things happen on the field, as evidenced by his past starts for Buffalo. With him starting, I think the Bills will be able to at least stay in games that aren't against the top teams.

I think this helps the entire Buffalo offense, mainly because they'll be able to sustain drives better. Yes, Fitz will take more shots downfield to Evans & company, but don't count on too many of them being catchable.

Game logLots of stinkers in there. The best game he ever played was in his debut, and it was (mostly) downhill from there.

Who were they going to bring in that would make them even a decent team this year? I like that thye didnt draft Claussen or McCoy or bring in some other average NFL QB via FA or trade. As a Bills fan i am hoping they suck this year, this way we will have a choice of what looks like a stong QB class.

What's the definition of insanity again?

This. Buffalo sucks right now. The quarterbacks all suck, the line sucks, every WR except for Lee Evans sucks, the TEs suck, the D-line sucks, the linebackers suck, the coaches suck, the front office sucks, and the owner sucks. Brining in a journeyman vet at QB was never going to be anywhere near enough even to stop the bleeding, let alone turn things around. Presumably the Bills will have an early pick to use on a QB in April. Really, though, this organization is going to continue to be a joke until Ralph Wilson is no longer with us, sad to say.

While I don't disagree with this sentiment, I can't see the next owner having the same level of loyalty to the city of Buffalo that Ralph Wilson has. Can you say Los Angeles or Toronto?

Nope. This team is a mortal lock to finish dead last in its division. Edwards. Fitzpatrick. Brohm. It doesn't matter who they put back there. None of them will succeed. Buffalo's problems run much deeper than the QB position.

Mike Vick for a 2nd rounder? It will sell tickets in Buffalo the rest of the year and Vick will get to showcase his talents as a starter.

Unfortunately, that's probably true. It's going to suck to see this organization get turned around in a different city. I'm not sure what I'm going to do if the Bills pack up and move.

Why do you feel they will take a QB this year? They have been passing on them for a while...They could have easily had Vick, Leftwich, Pennington, Carr, Batch, etc, this year alone. All would have been an improvement.

With the exception of Vick, that's a pretty sorry collection of quarterbacks. Maybe a guy like Leftwich could give us an extra win or two, but that's it. I think I'd rather just have the better draft spot.Edit: You might want to brush up on the history of the franchise. We've been churning through QBs every few years ever since Kelly retired.

They should just go 100% wildcat to Spiller with Lynch and/or Jackson in the backfield. Couldn't be any worse.

I watched the Patriots suck for 30 years (1970-2000). I seriously feel bad for Bills fans; they love football and deserve better than this from ownership.

It all comes down to the offensive line, which is, well, offensive. They refuse to upgrade it in any real way. I don't know why...is Wilson adamantly against "boring" high draft pics?

It ####s everything. They can't protect their mediocre QB's. They have 2, possibly 3 1000yrd backs, but they can't get any yardage because of the line. They can't get the balls to their one legit receiver because he never has enough time to get open.

It's always the ####### line, and it has been for at least a decade.

I feel bad for Edwards. The best "bad" QB in the league (meaning, his team doesn't give him a chance). Keep your eye on this guy if he ever changes teams. Edwards has talent.

He is accurate, but that is it. His arm is weak, he is terrified to throw downfield, he has no pocket awareness and no leadership skills. Other than that, he's fantastic! The Bills need a franchise QB in the worst way and some stud offensive tackles as well. But hey, it was awesome to watch Mathews tee off on Edwards this past week while Aaron Maybin did absolutely nothing.

He is definitely better than he has showed IMHO.I feel bad for Spiller, phenomenal talent that is likely going to be wasted for a few years at a minimum.

Brohm should start... he'll be awful to but at least he can throw it far. Fitzpatrick throwing in the cold. I laugh at the thought.
