email attachment issue (1 Viewer)

My sister has tried sending documents to me and my mother a couple times as attachments to her email.  They keep arriving on our end as .dat files that we can not open.  However, when she sends them to my work email address, which is a gmail account, they seem to come through just fine.  They have been .xlsx and .docx file extensions.  I seem to receive documents of these types sent to me from others without a problem.    Any insights?

She might need to change the format of her email. Make sure it's set to HTML.

If the issue is on her end, why does everything go smoothly when she sends to my gmail account?

I'm guessing it's because Gmail can adapt to different formats on the fly.

Is the full name of the file winmail.dat?  Or is it the original file name and .dat?

Your sister has a setting somewhere to use "Rich text format".  She needs to use HTML or plain text.
