Emmitt Smith (1 Viewer)

I just cringe everytime he gets on the mic. I find myself hoping and praying he can get through his set without a mistake...but im let down every single time. Can he really keep this analyst gig? or am i the only one that thinks hes that bad?

I have to agree, Smith is terrible. Or maybe Steve Young is just so good that he makes everyone else look awful. Nope, scratch that, Emmitt does just suck.

I had to hit the mute in the pre-game after Emmitt informed me of the following:

"Adrian Peterson have the ability to hit a home run on any play."

Who needs proper verb conjugation when you have the Dancing With The Stars trophy sitting on your mantle? Don't be a hater.

I guess if you are a nerd, and you're worried about proper grammer... than you might be annoyed by him. However, he obviously knows what he is talking about, so I just listen to what he is actually saying, rather than trying to pick out character flaws.

I'm most tired of him acting like he was the greatest RB to ever play the game (not even close,) that he played on the greatest team ever (not even close,) and that he's never done a single thing wrong in his whole life. Pacman, Chirs Henry, Ricky Williams and Mike Vick aren't heroes by any stretch but Smith seems to heap the scorn on everything more than anyone else. And any situation of player vs. coach/management he always sides with coach/management. Just find him to be a real jerk.

Keyshawn drives me nuts now too. Calling out TO yet this is a guy who wrote a book called "Just give me the damn ball" not being half the player TO is. Judge not lest ye be judged.

Wow. Take off the :ptts: glasses. Seriously. Is there any Cowboy who isn't the greatest at something with you? Is anyone allowed to criticize your team or it's players?Good Lord.

As a Patriots fan, I can't wait for 10 years from now when everyone is complaining about how horrible Bruschi, Harrison, Vrabel, Moss, and Seau are at analyzing games on the various networks.

IMO, Bruschi and Seau would make excellent analysts. Emmitt needs to go after the superbowl. :lmao: He's an embarassment.

What was that nugget of wisdom he offered us back in about week 6? Something about how if you want to remain undefeated you have to avoid having any blemishes on your record? That is some quality analysis that you can only get from someone who really knows what he is talking about!

I don't think Emmitt is very good at the moment as an analyst.

However, he was one of the all time great RB's and the early 90's Cowboys was one of the greatest teams we've seen to date.

Because Emmitt isn't a great announcer doesn't all of a sudden mean those things I mentioned above aren't true.

With that said, I think Troy Aikmen is outstanding and so is Moose Johnson.

I think Michael Irvin was average at best and could see why people didn't like him if they didn't like him as a player.

Keyshawn.....I don't like either. He was not just a Cowboy though, he was pretty much all over.

Any other Cowboys I'm leaving off?

How far back you wanna go, Don Meredith............Turn out the Lights, the parties over!

I think Emmitt is a hell of a lot better that Michael Irvin was.

And Keyshawn actually exceeded my expectations.

:lmao:

P.S. Berman and Jackson would be fine themselves, like the good ol' days. It started going downhill when Pete Axthelm started polluting the set.

I would put Emmitt and Shannon Sharpe in the same category, but you can at least understand Emmitt's butchering of the English Language

Smith seems like a nice guy, and it would be fun to watch a game with him over beers, but he brings absolutely nothing to the table as a commentator. I also get the sense that he and Steve Young are oil and water personality wise. Even if Young drank, I wouldn't want to share a beer and a game with him.

Sharpe is not that bad, ecxept for the fact he is difficult to understand, I wonder if he has a hearing problem, he sounds a little like Lou Ferrigno.

He definitely was cool, but he was nearly worthless in the booth. His greatest contribution to each telecast was to sing "Turn out the lights, the party's over" when the game had been decided.

You are right. I apologize. That is not important as an on air personality

i long for the "good 'ol days" when people were hired based on their ability as opposed to their name. Sure, Emmitt was great ... on the field.

I'd prefer a more "blue-collard" type of guy ... maybe a younger Ditka or less-######ed Madden type guy.

It's a classic case of what Cosell dubbed the "jockocracy" in the NFL broadcast business. I suspect that at least 25% of the posters on this board would bring more to the booth than Emmitt Smith. Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, no one here Danced with the B-Listers, and most of us are high-definition challenged. Still, slap enough makeup on Lammey and Bloom, and broadcasts would improve exponentially. Contrast foreign soccer broadcasts with the steaming puddle of verbal diarrhea we're served up and the issue begins to take focus.

I think Woodson would be a better Cowboy fit on MNF.

The NFL Network realized how bad Emmitt was, and completely scaled him back and then out. They did the same thing with Jerry Rice on NFL Network and on Sirius NFL. Rice still has a small presence on Sirius, but he was brutal.

The worst athlete turned broadcaster by far was Tim Hardaway.

Emmitt with Sal Pal is 1000 times better than Emmitt with Stuart Scott who would encourage Emmitt to clown himself out.

Emmitt went off the tracks his last few years as a Cowboy, when he was getting paid well and trashed the team and played just for himself and the record. The other stuff just emphasizes his character.

He sent a "Shout Out" to his wife during pre-game, Are you kidding me?

As a Cowboys fan, I loved what Emmitt did for the team. I just wanted to puke when he was talking to AD like he was the greatest RB ever, he has no humility. The record is nice and showed he played and stayed healthy a long time, but he's not the greatest RB ever.

I meant I like some of the stuff he says and he has a good sense of humor, he just needs some speech classes.Emmitt on the other hand has no business being on the air.

 As bad as Emmitt is he is still better than Bo Jackson. His broadcast partner was commenting on a certain player having an allstar season and said he's really "bringing home the bacon". Bo's reponse was..."He aint only bringing home the bacon, he's bringing home the whole cow"

I remember when Magic Johnson was doing NBA games for NBC. I don't think I have ever listened to anything more painful in my whole life.

I don't know how many of you saw ESPN's post game show with Sal Paolantonio, Steve Young and Emmit Smith.

1. Sal Paolantonio was being a real tool constantly arguing with Young and Smith. I found him very irritating and self righteous.

2. Got a kick out of Smith telling AD (joined the group for one segment) that he could ask one of the greatest RB's off all time anything he wanted. Smith came off as a meglomaniac and AD played along.

Emmitt Smith is an eloquent gem amongst a studio of imperfect lesser stones. May he continue his television commentary reign into the nether regions forever and ever and ever. Amen.
