Eric Decker ROS (1 Viewer)

I still think Decker will wind up being the #1 WR for the Broncos.
LOL.
don't see what is funny about this... Decker has almost equal total targets, has big play ability, Peyton trusts him and goes to him in crunch time, they have an equal amount of TD's, and he is 5th overall this season with "8" redzone targets, and has more than Demarius.. and defenses will definitely roll coverage towards D.Thomas as the season goes on.... not sure how this is an invalid statement
Simple. Decker has about 25% of the talent that D Thomas. Decker will be fine, but to say he his Denver's WR1 is LOL. I know it sucks to have grabbed Decker 2 rounds before DT, but time to face the music. I suppose people will hang on for as long as they can. Will be back in Week 12 and in Week 16 to gloat.
first off 25% the talent my ###, Decker is a great WR....secondly, i don't even have Decker on my fantasy team...thirdly, I am not even arguing that Decker is better than D.Thomas.. that is pretty clear, but in fantasy Decker could end up as the #1 WR simply by how effectively Manning uses him, if the trend continues in the redzone Decker could end up with more TD's and very similar yardage and receptions... could be the equivalent of what Collie was a couple of years ago, even though R.Wayne was the far superior wideout
decker is talented, no doubt...some of the stats between them are very similar...

both have 8 TDs... this tied for third among WRs (after A.J. green's 10 & james jones 9)... with dez bryant, marques colston, brandon marshal and victor cruz (of course, as with TDs and all the stats cited below, DEN WRs have had one more game than rest of the league leaders to compile their stats, as these numbers reflect thur night game against OAK last night)...

SOME people thought decker might get more TDs with the rationale that he would be the more precise, reliable and trustworthy route technician, but as can be seen, this hasn't played out...

thomas has 74 receptions to 64 for decker (less than one reception a game separates them through 13 games)... thomas 7th, decker 11th in receptions among WRs...

to me, the stat that roars off the page in distinguishing the two is YPC... thomas' average is 16.2, good for 12th in the league... looking at that closer, he is right behind calvin johnson (a WR he is sometimes compared to, at least in the sense that they have some similarities as big WRs with great speed and athleticism) at 16.6 YPC... if you look at the 10 WRs ahead of them in YPC, only two (vincent jackson and steve smith, at #1 & #8 in YPC, respectively) have as many as 50 receptions (johnson has 86)...

decker is well down the list in this department at 12.3 YPC...

with the great disparity in YPC average acting as a force multiplier on the less significant reception difference (and none on TDs, as noted above), yields a significant, about 50% difference in receiving yardage...

thomas - 1,197 (2nd)

decker - 790 (18th)

it may not be as simple as thomas is more explosive (clearly he is to my eye)... a confounding variable could revolve around usage and how they are employed in the broader passing scheme, with manning throwing deeper routes to thomas (it would be instructive to see such a comparitive route distribution breakdown)... but a contra-indicator to THAT view would be to look no further than the PIT game (week one?), in which thomas took a bubble screen something like 50+ yards to the house... again, to my eye, thomas has more dangerous RAC skills and open field running ability... not sure if decker makes that play?

* it could be a facile and a fast and loose categorization/characterization, but i see them as complementary... with thomas being the more dangerous and explosive deep and RAC threat, and decker probably having better hands and superior possession WR on short/intermediate routes... that said, they both have diverse skill sets... thomas can go over the middle and has pretty good hands and is becoming more adept and precise as a route runner... decker has deceptive speed (sub-4.5 at pro day?) and is an outstanding athlete in his own right, playing center field in college...

The Denver Post says Eric Decker is in line for a "rich," long-term contract from the Broncos in 2014.
Of course, Decker will have to perform well in this season -- the final year of his rookie deal. The problem is that even if he maintains his high level of play, he doesn't figure to come close to last year's No. 7 fantasy finish. New slot man Wes Welker projects to steal plenty of targets and Decker was in line for a natural regression off his 13 touchdowns anyway. Consider Mr. Jessie James a low-end WR2.

I have no idea why re-posting rotoworld here is necessary. If I want to read rotoworld, I will go to rotoworld. It's not like it's blocked anywhere is it? This post is a prime example of why rotoworld stinks anyway and pulling up a long lost thread to re-post rotoworld's speculation just moves relevant topics down.

I have no idea why complaining about re-posting rotoworld here is necessary, and it isn't that hard to use the search function or check out other pages to see if there are relevant topics that you are interested in perusing.

OK, I'll tell you why, because when something pops to the top of the board, right or wrong, I assume it's for something relevant. Like clockwork, if rotoworld posts something about a guy who hasn't made news in awhile, it gets reposted for some reason which feeds into the echo-chamber hype machine. I get that every now and again another site might catch and post something relevant, but not every rotoworld post is relevant. Plus, they have a pretty bad track record for views on players so, I never take anything they post seriously. Why not just put a rotoworld ticker feed on the site here and save us all some time.....

  • I don't own this site, so I have no ability to add a ticker or RSS feed to this site.
  • I receive lots of positive feedback from other FBG members who appreciate the information that I pull from other sources that they don't have time to check on their own. I think your feedback was the first negative blast that I received.
  • I don't post everything that is on Rotoworld, only what I found interesting or relevant. I don't care what breakfast cereal Brees ate that morning, so I do try to be careful that what I add is valuable. I couldn't anticipate that this particular posting would bother you this way.
  • I don't just pull information from Rotoworld. I use NFL.com, ESPN, CBS Sports, etc. so that it saves significant time for those who don't scour every source of NFL information out there.
  • Rotoworld is very good at culling information from multiple sources, and part of the reason why I post it here is to stimulate debate and discussion.
  • Rotoworld adds their own opinion, which most FBG know can be heavily biased, but at least they link the original article, so you can go on to read it for yourself and formulate your own opinion.
  • I also tend to post the info in one thread, even if it is an older thread. I take this step to prevent the problem of creating 30 different threads on 1 player or subject.
  • If you see an older thread and you think to yourself that it might not be relevant, then don't open it to read it, just ignore it. In fact, if you don't like the information that I bring to the FBG Shark Pool, please feel free to add me to your ignore list and my postings won't bother you again.

Thanks guys for the support!

I thought that Decker owners might want to know that he was potentially going to be locked up long-term by the Broncos.

and next year is a contract year for thomas...

maybe the team can keep both, as welker signed just a two year contract (he is 32)...

Dangit, I should know better than to enter a thread like this while expecting something new and GOOD to be posted.

Maybe this is the wrong place to discuss it but, regarding Decker and Thomas and long-term extensions, what do people make of that as it relates to their dynasty value? We all know these guys are both getting a lot of love right now but, IMO, they are more tied to Manning's continuing to play moreso than most other WRs.

I'm sure a lot of people will say that they are talented and they don't worry too much about it. I am not suggesting they aren't talented but I do think this is one of those cases where the qb makes the player to a large degree and think both players are likely overvalued.

It is July. OTAs and minicamps are over and training camp & preseason are a few weeks away. What were you expecting?

Then make a Faust News thread and post it there rather than necroing the first random thread that mentions the player and posting entirely unrelated news in it. His current contract situation has nothing whatsoever to do with what would appear to be basically a sit/start thread from 10 months ago.

A Faust news thread is not going to happen, but thanks for the suggestion. I explained to you that I prefer not to create extra player threads and clutter up the shark pool, so yes, I found the only Decker thread that I could find and added the information into that thread. There isn't much going on for NFL news in early July, so I did think that Decker being possibly locked up long term by the Broncos was relevant to dynasty league players.

Again, please feel free to add me to your ignore list.

It's good to know and keep postiing stuff. If I dont want to see it I'll just hit that "back" button or scroll past it.

Faust, you do good work. Most of us appreciate your efforts here. And actually, the Decker info is pretty useful for anyone owning Decker in a dynasty league.

I completely disagree about Thomas. Obviously it helps having Manning, but that's blinding you from Thomas' ability. He's every bit of the physical freak he was billed as coming out of college. I have little worry Denver would ever let a guy like him walk and I have little worry losing Manning will hurt him too much. He produced as a raw player coming off an Achilles injury with Tebow as his QB.

The link rotocrap sites does not indicate that the Broncos are actually looking to lock him up long-term. It is some beat writer from the Denver Post speculating to some guy asking a question. Absolutely anyone could speculate and connect those hypothetical dots. And therein lies the problem with mindlessly re-posting rotocrap. Thanks for proving my point.

Your original point was that it was a waste of your time to open the thread and read the posting. You have now wasted 10x the original amount of time by moaning and complaining about this and carrying the argument onward. Congratulations.

Just curious, but is your full time job reposting from that site or do you get kickbacks for reposting their fluff opinions? Seems like it must occupy a bit of your time. (Open window with Rotoworld, search for player here, copy/paste, wait for thumbs up from friends, and move on to the next guy.) I get it, you love Rotoworld and can't get enough of posting their material. I just fail to see how this routine of yours is enlightening in any way. As far as wasting my time? I agree, you have succeeded, just like you've wasted anyone else's time who opens a topic expecting news and are greeted with a copy and paste of irrelevant material from a less than stellar source of information. I am only taking this time just to say, I will never open another topic that shows your name as the most recent poster because I will know with near 100% certainty that it is just a robotic repost of Rotoworld. Seriously, if they put a rotoworld feed here, you might be able to step away from the screen a little more often and enjoy the day.

Its funny, reading the thread after Faust bumped it made for some interesting reading, and I was thinking about how much I forgot about Decker last season, like his midseason dip.

It is an incredibly slow time of year, news-wise, and Fausts additions tend to promote discussion, or be ignored. Might be the first time I have seen them make someone angry.

What I really don't get is complaining that he is posting stuff from Rotoworld, which you already read, and apparently assume everyone else does too. Then go on to expound on how much you hate Rotoworld. Then why do you read Rotoworld?

Maybe save the big words, like 'cite', for others?

I am 100% great with that - feel free to never open a thread that I have made the last post in as long as you are on these boards. As mentioned before, I repost information from ESPN, NFL.com, and not just rotoworld. The majority on here at FBG.com appreciate the fact that they can come here and don't need to scour the web the same way that I do to catch up on all the information that they have missed out on. I sometimes come across some great stuff that is very obscure, and the information has been very helpful at times to the membership of these boards. That is kind of the point of the message boards, and another one from the owner of this site is here for you to read:

#2. Keep the personal attacks way down. I understand it's football and you're passionate. I am too. But I'm seeing the tool factor going way up in some of these posts and we can't have it. Disagree, argue, debate, support, critique whatever. But if you can't keep from calling the other guy a dumb###, you won't be posting here. This is the time of year when I have 10,000 urgent things to do every day. So please don't push this.

Bottom line -

1. Keep this focused on NFL News and Player Discussion and General Strategy topics.

2. Understand most people in the Shark Pool don't care about your team and keep the focus on stuff that is applicable to all.

3. Be Excellent to One Another.
It doesn't take me that much time to collect the information and post it in the message boards here, certainly less time than it has taken you to get all worked up and spread your negativity towards me and towards Rotowrold (which I don't really get, but that is beside the point).

I have plenty of time to step away and enjoy the day BTW. I have mowed the lawn and have been out for 18 holes of golf, so thanks for your concern.

I admit, that the information was a touch weak for adding much value, but like massraider says, I saw some information on Decker and posted it in a thread, looking to drive some discussion on him. I am a touch surprised that it sent somebody over the edge and made them so angry, especially when there are so many other things in this world that are more deserving of your scorn.

The funniest part about this is that after complaining and posting his complaints, he has bumped this thread a few times, when it would have been far wiser to just let the thread slip into obscurity if you didn't like what you read.

I'm really pissed off at Faust. Not for the rotoworld thing, but the fact that he made a deal with the devil to gain all knowledge and what not.

As for Decker, I'm not sure why, but I think he benefits more from Manning than Thomas. I think Thomas is athletic and skilled enough to be a legit #1 with even mediocre QB play. As for Decker, I think he benefits from Manning's ability to check from receiver to receiver with ease. Guys who aren't as good as Manning at reading mismatches and going through progressions would likely struggle to give Decker as many targets.

An interesting stat would be how many times Decker was the primary receiver for a play, but I think Manning's ability to change plays at the line and his skill at reading defenses might make that stat worth less than for a quarterback without that skillset.

Azhais, Leonidas, and especially Rookie_Whisperer, why don't you go find another fantasy football forum to post in? And don't let the door hit you on the way out.

It's already clear that you will never contribute 1% of the value to this forum that Faust does.

Strong speculation/predicting of the future.

Just like the rotoworld reposts, feel free to scroll right past my post if you don't care about the content.

I can see this offense supporting 3 WR's, much like the GB one. The main reason is that they really don't have a top tier TE that will steal snaps/targets. Both offenses are predominantly going to run a 3 WR/1TE/1RB offense (with the TE being used in pass pro a good portion of the time).

I don't expect much to change in the offense. It will be up to Welker to force Payton to throw him more balls. If he gets open, he will get the ball. The 1st/2nd/3rd reads likely won't change. They will just be more efficient. Decker just needs to keep developing like last season and he will get his numbers. The TD numbers are a crap shoot.

I think most think that Demaryius is the more transcendent talent, so going to talk about Decker. I think Decker is a really solid possession guy that could have value in a lot of places. He posted 2 20+ point (PPR) games in 2011 before Orton got benched and then managed 10+ in 4 of 5 with Tebow as the QB. That was just his 2nd year in the league. Last year he was able to turn in a top 10 season with only 123 targets. The TDs are probably not repeatable, but lets take 5 of them away and he still would have been WR17.

His college production was solid and he had 51% of the team's receiving yards his senior year. As far as I know, the only other active WRs that played FCS and were able to post a number north of 50% are the first 2 Georgia Tech boys and A.J. Jenkins.

Oh, he is also 6'3 and 220 and functions as a red zone threat.

I think he is a safe bet to be a top 30 WR in most situations. DLF has him as WR20 in their latest dynasty start-up mocks and that feels about right, though I see another 3 guys below him I would probably take first for the possible upside.

Seriously, for the new guys that don't like Faust, there is an "ignore" function. You can choose to ignore any post made by Faust and you will never see it. You should just do that and quit dirtying up the thread.

His current contract situation has nothing whatsoever to do with what would appear to be basically a sit/start thread from 10 months ago.</p>
Quit whining

I admit, that the information was a touch weak for adding much value, but like massraider says, I saw some information on Decker and posted it in a thread, looking to drive some discussion on him. I am a touch surprised that it sent somebody over the edge and made them so angry, especially when there are so many other things in this world that are more deserving of your scorn.

The funniest part about this is that after complaining and posting his complaints, he has bumped this thread a few times, when it would have been far wiser to just let the thread slip into obscurity if you didn't like what you read.
I had no idea the Broncos were working on an extension for Decker. There are many people speculating on his production possibly decreasing this season with Welker in tow, and the fact they're looking to sign ED long term may mean he won't be adversely affected by Welker's presence.

Anyone who has been here more than 15 minutes knows the information you provide from other sites is paramount. When training camp rolls around and you make your normal updates in the training camp thread maybe these clowns will know what they've been missing and extend you an apology?

99% of this forum appreciates it.

I hate to add to the silly off topic debate, but I just want to say that the people arguing with those complaining are only making things worse. Ignore the comments, and discuss the topic at hand - which only proves the complainers wrong anyway, and they'll move along peacefully.

That's because they're not.

Agreed. Plus, with defenses having to pick their poison with those WRs this year, Decker could see the softest coverage of the three - Welker is feared as a possession WR, and Thomas is too much of a big play guy to play soft - and since Manning throws to the open guy most of the time no matter who it is, Decker could really feast this year. I am not sure he will score 13 times again, but given his current ADP/auction price, I think he'll end up being the best value of the three Bronco WRs.

That was the whole point of this old thread bump though.

Is there any [good] reason to believe they are working on this?
