Eric Garner case: Judge recommends police officer be fired (1 Viewer)

So why has this taken 5 years?
An excellent question.  I would not care to speculate.  I do believe that justice delayed is justice denied.  No matter what happens moving forward this matter is one giant stain on the robes of justice and some stains just never quite come out.

To refresh those who may not recall this is the incident where a police officer choked out a large fellow who was noncompliant to the officer's orders when the officer approached him to address the crime of selling loose cigarettes, selling them on the street,  one at a time instead of by the pack or carton from a licensed business establishment.  11 times after the hold was placed on by the officer the suspect complained he could not breath.  The suspect died.

I just posted in the police forum about this the other day. May we remember senseless deaths like these when we question even the smallest of regulations which must be enforced with the word's own root.

Force.

Laws are never a joke, no matter how small. The laws against loosies are silly. The need for better policing need not even have existed for Eric, he never should have been in that situation in the first place.

But, and this is a huge but, the police officer should have been tried for manslaughter and fired. Police need also to be better. Way better than this.

I mean if Di Blasio doesn't fire him he better just announce his resignation from his campaign at the same time.

Assuming he is taking his campaign seriously, he doesn't have a choice.

Officer Pantaleo, 34, has been on desk duty without a shield or a gun since Mr. Garner died, a status that has allowed him to accrue pay and pension benefits.

SMH
Reacted thanks, should have reacted with "sad," but thanks for looking it up. Just chiming in to say "ditto."

SMH, too. Unreal.
