I was searching my Dynasty Teams FAs last night and I placed a $1 bid on this kid; and I landed him. Hes DB 11 in my scoring system and has doubled Kerry Rhodes' #s.

I know hes was Clevelands 2nd round pick, they traded up to get him, and hes got the physical tools.... but I also read that he might have been benched last week; but this week he will continue to be the starting CB.

His tackle #s are insane; at this rate... he'll have over a 100 at the end of the season...

What should I know about this kid?

Thanks

his numbers are so good b/c opposing offenses pick on him so often. if he improves he'll likely have less chances at tackles, and of course same scenario if he is benched. cleveland doesn't run a cover2(well they definetly may this week) where he's gonna rack up tackles out of scheme each week. Assuming he's still starting this week he'd seem like a must play against Randy-Welker and stallworth. Randy and Brady are prolly already smiling and laughing thinking about it-like last week when they knew poor leon hall would be on randy at times.

His current pace is not sustainable but he should have good value in 2007. The usual caveats about an inexperienced corner opposite an experienced one and with questionable run support skill apply to future value. He doesn't really have the look of a physical tackler with elite ball skills (on pace for 8 PD) so he's more likely to be similar to Deltha O'Neal than Rashean Mathis on a year-to-year basis. Still a little early to say for certain, however.

I disagree! The CLE CB's have been putting up really good numbers the past 2 1/2 to 3 yrs. The real problem they have had and why their CB's are not looked as studs, is the meer fact they haven't stayed healthy. Bodden, Holly, Baxter, McCutchen (sp?) and now Wright all are putting put good tackle numbers with pass defense and the occasional INT. I'm not talking Champ or Ronde, where you know excactly what you're getting each week, but they are more more than just bye week filler or in Wright's case...that he's a rookie. Of course, his cause is helped by the fact he is a rookie too. Count it as a 2x whammy!

His tackle numbers are insane which indicates exactly what has been stated, he's got a big bulls-eye on the back of his jersey. He's targeted by oposing QBs/OCs. Last week their was talk of Daven Holley possibly replacing him but the coaches stepped in and backed him up. Eric responded with his best game and even played some great edge containment on running plays, something I hadn't seen him do in the past before. He's gradually improving and still keeping his tackle numbers high so I would expect that the opposition will shift focus in another direction but Lee Bodden is a very good CB that many have not heard about. Bodden is tough in coverage and makes INTs so Eric will get lots of opportunities and I think he'll begin to capitilize on them here soon. The scare of last week coincided with facing Steve McNair who has a bad groin pull. McNair couldn't throw to his left for some reason and also appeared late on throws to the middle of the field. That situation won't happen Sunday against Tom Brady and if the Pats get Moss on Wright the Randy will eat him up. Another major factor in the high tackle numbers for Wright and the entire Browns secondary is the lack of pass rush. QBs are getting the ball off and connecting/keeping drives alive. IOWs the Browns DBs have more opportunities than most. Their is no untapped pass rush potential that I see on the team and that means the DBs will be high in tackles all year long, err, as long as they remain healthy. At this clip that would have to be a legitimate concern to mull over.

Wright originally signed and played at USC. He started as a freshman before getting in off field trouble and being forced to transfer. He "lasted" to the 2nd round of the draft because of his off field issues. On talent alone, he likely would have been the first CB drafted. He is racking up tackles primarily because he is a rookie opposite a solid cover corner in Bodden (getting picked on frequently) and because the Cleveland run defense is pourous to say the least.Typical rookie mental mistakes could eventually cost him his job, but there is little doubt he is their 2nd best CB on talent alone. I would definitely recommend him in a dynasty league and play him this year as long as he keeps his job. Even if he loses it, he stands to regain it sooner than later due to their lack of better options.

Until this season, the only Cleveland CB who projected to over 60 solo tackles was Daylon McCutcheon in 2005, who had 71 in a full 16 games. Healthy or not, that's a prescription for IDP inconsistency. The opportunity helps, but the skill set is still of vital importance when scouting corners for IDP value. Wright is one of those guys you pick up hoping he'll be a stud during his first season as a starter so that you can move him if you determine he's not talented enough to be consistent with run support or on-ball skills.

Playing in the IDP leagues that score 1 pt per tackle or pass defense, the starting CLE CB's have averaged 6 pts per game minimum. This is when they don't get an INT. Their higher numbers were also due to the offense being bad and the overall defense not being great. I'll take 6 pts anyday because an INT or forced fumble and you are doing more than well for the week by getting into double digit points. I don't recommend that they are your bread & butter, but they can be an owners #2 or interchangable #3 CB. Again, much of their lower overall tackle #'s are due to missing games or not being completely healthy, which is the problem they have had the past 3 yrs with every one of their CB's (excluding Wright).
