Erik Walden quit on the Packers.... (1 Viewer)

Yeah, isn't it common (or at least, didn't it used to be common) for atheletes to have knee problems but play through them, and eventually find out that their ACL had basically disintegrated?
Urban legend. And the disintegration you are referring to is the meniscus, it's not a ligament, it is just a cushion between the bones. Losing your meniscus is painful, but doesn't structurally impact a knee like losing a ligament does.
Got ya.

There are plenty of examples of athletes having torn their ACL and never get it repaired. Curtis Martin and DeJuan Blair are two that come to mind.
Plenty? How many pro athletes are there? It is by far an exception if an athlete plays with a torn ACL and not getting it repaired. Let's not make this seem like it happens all they time. It doesn't.
It is about 25% of the population that can. That is plenty.

There is no way that is even close to the truth. A worn meniscus? Okay. A tear in the mcl or pcl? Perhaps. A torn acl?? A very very small chance without some type of rehabilitation/surgery.

So 1 in 4 pro athletes play with torn ACL's? We are waiting for you to tell us why you think know more about knee injuries than Dr. Warren King. :goodposting:

Former NFL tackle Greg Koch, who was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame last summer, had some harsh words for Bears quarterback Jay Cutler after Cutler bowed out of Sunday’s NFC championship game because of a knee injury.

Koch, in a radio interview with station KILT in Houston, where he lives, had the following to say about Cutler:

“As I mentioned last week and on Saturday’s show, the factor that was going to come down to that game was the X-factor, the Cutler factor, and man, I just never thought that his tampon would fall out on national TV,” Koch said.

Koch was a noted tough guy. He missed only two games in his entire 11 year career, nine of which were with the Packers (1977-85).

“There’s no mentality,” Koch added. ”If you’re a professional athlete, you answer the bell until they tell you there’s no way to play. You can brace that thing.

“Let me tell you something, nobody would’ve kept Tom Brady off the field if he wanted to play. Nobody would’ve kept Peyton Manning off the field. Then you don’t just sit on the sideline and ride a bike like a little girl. … The only thing I can think of is maybe Colt McCoy’s dad visited him in the locker room at halftime to try and pump him up.”

All these players and former players that question Cutler's toughness are just morons. How can you question a guys toughness when he sat in the pocket the entire year and got sacked 58 times? He got up every single time. The guy walked to the wrong sideline when Osi Umenyiora sacked him and stayed in the game. The guy is as tough as they come. The coaching staff told Cutler that he couldn't play at halftime, but Cutler wanted to give it another shot. So Cutler played the first series of the 3rd quarter. He had zero stability in the knee. He couldn't plant it to throw. He couldn't avoid a rush. He was a sitting duck and and was going to do more harm to his team than good. He physically couldn't play.

These moron players are just that. Morons. All because he didn't have crutches on the sideline, doesn't mean that he didn't have an injury that prevented him from playing professional football. There are plenty of guys that are on IR/hurt, that are on the sideline with no crutches or bandages. Walking up and down the sideline. Where are the morons calling them out.

If you want to question Cutlers demeanor on the field, fine. He does look disinterested and displays virtually no leadership skills. I agree with that. I do question his heart. However, I don't question his injury. I don't question his toughness. And for all those that continue that mantra, you are proving yourselves to be ignorant and boneheaded. Enough already.

Just read on Yahoo Sports that Cutler was seen taking a flight of stairs at a restaurant after the game.

So just so I am clear, you're ok enough to go up and down a flight of stairs to get a steak but you're not ok enough to put a brace on and go finish the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP game?!?!

The competitor in me wouldn't allow me to eat after losing that big of a game. I'd be sick to my stomach.

:goodposting: This is just another stoopid comment. You can walk with an MCL injury. You can walk in a straight line. You can walk up and down stairs. You can't make lateral movements well. You can't plant, twist and throw a football. You can't avoid Clay Mathews or Cullen Jenkins. You can't run a shuttle drill. You can't play very well in the NFC championship game. Get off his nuts and stop reaching for something that isn't there.

That's true. If only Cutler were to eat Salmon, instead of a steak, maybe the Bears could have won!
