Ernie Accorsi's 2004 draft day trade to get Eli (1 Viewer)

Also, to be fair about the whole "Eli whining about going to San Diego" ... do your homework. It was Archie that let that cat out of the bag.
Which means Eli didn't have any choice in the matter? Exactly how spineless is Eli?
Man, you can see the seething against Eli and I just don't get it. He is a good, grounded kid. So much better than so many of these cocky, arrogant, selfish players.Spineless for following the advice of his parents in his first major career decision when his father has seen a son go through exactly this process and he himself was in the NFL?

Please. Be a LITTLE fair, people?

I think NY wins that game with Eli, Ben, or Rivers at the helm. In that sense NY should not have made the trade. SD got the better end but still made a mistake because they already had Brees. Brees, ROY, Gates, LT, and Merriman would have done far more damage in the playoffs. If you want to go back a couple of years, one could contend that drafting Keading actually cost the Bolts a title.

It's clear that he wanted to go to New York. At the time, his brother didn't have a Superbowl ring ... maybe because the TEAM was never really there. Ask Archie how he feels about being a great QB on a bad team.Eli wanted to go to a TEAM that was going to make a run for a title. Can you blame him?

How many thousands of NFL players have been able to enter the NFL draft without having their daddies hold their hands and make decisions for them? What makes Eli so special that he gets to dictate what team he does or doesn't play for? The privilege of making millions by playing a game wasn't good enough for him?

He's a Manning

To be fair on this point, let me say that I also have always disliked Elway and Bo for pulling the same crap.

To think about it another way, if Rivers and the Chargers win the Super Bowl next year, does this suddenly become a bad trade for the Giants again?
to have one in pocket makes the trade better than a good one for the Giants (even if over time it ends up even better for SD).
What if it's all said and done, Rivers ends up with 3 Super Bowl rings? My point here is simple: people who are trying to justify this trade for the Giants seem to be desperate to do so, so much so that they're seizing on this Super Bowl and holding it out there as if that's the end all. That's oversimplified thinking.

Enjoy your Super Bowl. It was an amazing one that I as a 'Skins fan very much enjoyed believe it or not. But you're not being objective at all about what value was traded versus received on draft day in 2004.
I think Im being very objective. The point is to win a championship and that trade was a big reason why. If Rivers goes and wins three, fantastic - I dont know that he could have handled NY, or these set of circumstances. This is a championship we have and that is all the rationale I need at this point.
Comments like that tend to accompany oversimplified thinking.
 I don't understand the harm in thinking out a situation and debating it on the merits. "We won a title, discussion over" is, well, oversimplified thinking, as you said. I don't really get it.

Tampa Bay won a Super Bowl because they ditched Dungy and picked up Gruden. But if they had kept Dungy, would they have two or more in the future? Hard to say, but certainly worthy of conversation.
