Ernie Sims vs EJ Henderson (1 Viewer)

Both teams play a defense which should cause the WLB to have slightly higher tackle numbers than the MLB. Of course, things could change; coaches leave, players leave, better players get drafted in front of them or beside them, etc.

Until things do change though, I'd rather have Sims.

It's scoring system dependent for me right now. To keep this from becoming an AC thread, Leslie Frazier is not a Tampa-2 only coach. Henderson will get the benefit of a more aggressive scheme and some big play opportunities. He was able to hit the mid-90s in solos last year on a very good run defense. Sims plays for one of the most vanilla Tampa-2 coaches in the league (though that could change if Marinelli gets different personnel). He's probably a lock for 90 solos in the short term, but may never anemic peripheral and big play stats (1 sack and 1 INT in 32 career games). Both players had very similar raw tackle opportunity last year.

In a dynasty format, I like to go with talent and I think Sims may be the better of the two in that respect. Like Dirty Hairy said "things could change". I would think eventually, Greenway will be taking some tackle ops from Henderson.

Also as Jean stated, scoring system matters.

So is it safe to say that Henderson might be the better LB in a league that rewards for big plays? It seems to me that both players are pretty similiar in tackle numbers however, Henderson is a bit more of a big play threat.

Overall, Sims might produce slightly higher tackle numbers from year to year (maybe 10-15 more) while Henderson will outproduce Sims in the big play category.

In big play favored leagues, Henderson would be choice.

In leagues that do not reward very well for big plays, then Sims would be choice. But even then, just slightly because he produces a bit more tackles.

Overall I think EJ provides the stability in tackles that every owner looks for yet also provides that big play.

Pretty much ... but the big plays may come for Sims as he becomes more acclimated, disciplined and comfortable in the defense I would say, at this point, he is hands down Detroit's best LB and should only get better and never leave the field. Can you say the same about Henderson? I'm a Greenway owner so I'm prolly bias, I try not to  , anyway, as Greenway gets more experience, the gap should close between he and Henderson. WTS ... Greenway may not leave the field, thus cutting into Henderson's dime ops. I didn't see alot of Minnesota last year, but I did see a time or two when Greenway was the dime backer, just some food for thought. The ceiling could be higher for Sims.

I give it to Sims.. but it's hardly a landslide. Its extremely close... E.J just moved into the middle last season... IMHO his numbers have no where to go but up. He's a true MLB and his adjustment went extremely well... I'd keep tabs on him but if I had to make the decision id probably go with the Sims.... the only thing you have look at later on is if the Lions draft or pick up a strong MLB in the off-season... which would ultimately take stats away from him.

excellent question, & closer than it first appears...

sims has better pedigree & more auspicious rookie season...

HOWEVER, henderson also has good pedigree (before hurting his back he looked like one of best defensive players in nation as maryland sophomore, picked early in round two, few picks after barnett, as first LBs taken in their draft), and is coming off his best season...

right now i'm guessing in a lot of situations you couldn't get sims for henderson...

when i looked at a few big play-driven scoring systems i play in, i was surprised to see henderson at #7 & sims at #16... in another, it was #8 & #14, respectively...

if this scoring disparity continues, obviously henderson's value relative to sims will surge...

in dynasty leagues, henderson does have back history, but that is mitigated by sims concussion history...

henderson was re-upped to a contract extension in '06, i think...

before looking at their season-ending totals, i would have thought sims, no brainer (especially after such a promising rookie season)... in actuality, VERY CLOSE... again, given jene's sensible qualifier, contingent on scoring system...

i do think sims is more talented, but henderson is in a great scheme... i do think sims has a chance to be a special, near derrick brooks-like talent, but that is far from certain he will actualize it... if i already had a solid roster, & could afford to take the risk, i might prioritize sims...
