ESPN Countdown may have just lost me (1 Viewer)

I have been an uber loyal ESPN Countdown fan, even though a lot of people (here on this forum, buddies, etc...) have panned it in recent years. For me, having Boomer, TJ, Mort and company just feels like FOOTBALL. Well, I'm tuned into this week's Countdown giddy with anticipation for the weekend's slate. And 20 minutes into the show they break for commercial and tell us that coming up is a MICHAEL VICK TIMELINE chronicling his rise and fall.

WTF?!?!?!?

Honestly, I know Vick is and will be a major story, but of all the days do we really need a feature on Vick, WHO IS NOT PLAYING IN THE LEAGUE THIS YEAR, on the eve of the first Sunday of the season!?!? :wall:

Guess Boomer felt left out and wanted to add his two cents

I bet it's narrated by Michael Irvin. That would be hillarious! :wall: He needs the work...

I flipped the channel immediately.

Lame.

Fortunately, The Rock is on one of the HBOs, to keep my distracted until the games start in an hour and a half. :wall:

I gave up on ESPN last year. They're much more ENTERTAINMENT than SPORTS now. The NFL Network is information pure and simple. With The Sunday Ticket I get a lot of the local pregame shows from around the country, can't beat that. I watch ESPN for college games, baseball and Monday Night Football, that's it.

I don't watch countdown shows. I hang out on the board and get my pit going. Then, about 2 til 12, I'll settle in for some football.

Try it. Much more enjoyable then listening to stories that are either ridiculous (like the one you mentioned) or that you alreaDY KNOW ABout from b/c they've been discussed for a week in the Shark Pool.

I'm watching and they have TO on talking about Vick

I keep waiting to hear something like "I believe that US Americans should outlaw hunting because the South Africans can use the animals to end global warming"

couldnt agree more. who at the network actuall logically think that we need to hear more about this? And then to bring TO into the mix, and even more TO coming up with Jim Gray. GARBAGE.....complete and total garbage.

Usually they wait until the second hour (when they've run out of pre-game material) to pull out the garbage stories.

Michael Irvin is a Millionaire, he doesn't need the work. But I'll gladly take it.

Agree completely, as soon as they started talking about trash I changed the channel to NFL network instead. ESPN are idiots for focusing on a Vick story on First Sunday!

Between Key and Emmitt, what's the over/under on how many times we hear "At the end of the day?" before this show is over? I've counted 8 already.

are you guys serious ...

you would turn a channel because of a less than 2 minute vick story ..

learn to live with it .. because if you watch the NFL .. VICK wil be a story all year .. and for that matter for years to come .. it comes with the territory

lets just enjoy KICKOFF SUNDAY . with whatever pre-game show you watch

( have a hunch every show will have a small vick piece --- for the casual viewer basically )

I don't care if I sound like a narrow-minded, obnoxious, petty, follow-the-herd mentality elitist! I cannot stand ESPN. I refuse to watch it. ESPN sold it's soul to Hollywood years ago.

I stopped watching years ago . . . I have had previews and football analysis all week . . . I watch Law @ Order repeats while hanging out here until Noon (CDT) . . .

There's not much new that we don't already know. I spend these last few hours compiling lineups for a side contest my league does and looking at Tim Tebow's girlfriend's boobs. Just because everybody's in here doesn't mean that the hardcore FFA guys are completely asleep.

ESPN lost me last year when they turned into the "TO" channel. I forgot they sucked during the offseason but was quickly reminded when they dedicated most of the Atlanta/Cincy MNF preseason game to the Vick storyline. Unfortunately I have to suffer through their broadcasts on Monday nights. I also can't stand the Fox pregame either because of Bradshaw and the guy from Mad TV doing skits, in case you care.

Well Done Jason. As soon as I heard them tease this segment going out to a break I changed the channel and started watching The Departed until Fox hits at 12:00 ET. So at 12:15 ET I flipped to CBS and they are talking about who is taking illegal substances in the NFL!!!!! THATS BS!!!! Can we please please please just talk about football today!!

They cannot adjust off of their hype topics. Watching the PSU-ND last night as the Penn State defense smothered Jimmy Clausen and held ND to zero yards rushing and all we hear about the whole game is him and see pictures of his freaking family in the stands. Pretty much the only people among 110,000 not wearing white and they have to show them after every play. WTF?

While I agree with you in principle, the bolded part of your quote made it (as a PSU  ) worth it to see the anguish in the face of Mr. Marinovich ERR Clausen every time the kid got humbled. Carry on... :boxing:

What is interesting is they are running an article on their main page talking about their coverage of the Michael Vick situation and what they plan on doing better.

I am embarrassed for Emmit. He may be a nice man, but speaking clearly is NOT his gift...
He can't possibly sound worse than Irvin when he first started out. Funniest thing I ever heard was him interviewing Deion about Bill Callahan's 'dumbest team' comment for some radio show. Sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher having an argument with herself.
