ESPN radio "The Huddle" Live 3:00-7:00 , 7-21-07 (1 Viewer)

Last week recap:

* The Colts lock Dwight Freeney up with a 6-year, $72 million deal. John thinks the deal makes a lot of sense. Jeremy couldn't disagree more -- he can't figure out why someone who only racked up six sacks in 2006 is getting all that dough.

* 4 Downs: What can Tom Coughlin do to change the culture in his locker room? Should the Bears be the NFC favorites right now? Do the Bengals have enough on defense to win big in the AFC? Are the cops picking on Pacman Jones?

* Rex Grossman told ESPN's Rachel Nichols that he wants to be the best QB -- ever. How far does Rex have to go to achieve that dream? Jeremy gives us a hint when he tells us that 20 teams have better QBs in the NFL right now than the Bears.

* New Saints LB Dhani Jones tells us why he signed with New Orleans last week. He's glad to be reunited with fellow ex-Giant Sean Payton. Dhani says he's 0-2 in SuperBowls, and that he and his new teammates expect to win it all this season.

* Broncos P Todd Sauerbrun has a lively conversation with the fellas. He tells us how glad he is that Mike Shanahan is giving him a second chance in Denver, and explains that high altitude affects kickoffs more than punts. He also can't figure out for the life of him why Ray Guy (the best punter in the game's history) still isn't in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Do you get paid for directing traffic to that show. Every week, a reminder to go and listen, but hardly ever any reports on the actual show itself.

Just curious why you feel the need to remind everybody every week.

A couple of years ago I got a pm from a soldier thanking me. Also, when I can stay around (not today) sometimes we get into some good FFB stuff.

Later in the year you will be happy to be reminded.

Actually I appreciate the reminder. I'm heading to the gym and I'll listen using my phone. Beats listening to the "same old" mp3s.

OK, my bad. Sorry about that. Some of y'all that listen, please take a minute and post us the latest scoops, except for Vick. I can wait a while more for that story.

I for one appreciate it. And you know, just skip the thread if you don't like it.

Sorry, got here a little late. It is Clayton and Ryan Rasillo (sp?)

They begin by talking about Vick, which is no surprise. Clayton says Petrino was not a fan of Schaub, which is why they moved him. They are not regretting the move. The season is on the verge of being destroyed.

Schaub is still an unknown, so we can't say it was a mistake to deal him. No other QB is like Vick and Petrino wants his type of players there. Getting Brohm is in the back of his mind. They may have been thinking this even before Vick's troubles.

Petrino was hired in part because of his ability to design a successful offense for Vick.

Excuses have always been made for Vick, but he rarley gets the blame for the shortcomings of the team. Vick's problems are that Vick's dropstep happens so quickly that his WRs can't get into their routes. It also hurts him that he is shorter than many QBs.

Huddle Headlines--

Tarik Glenn retiring- he is in Mexico and is not sure what he wants to do. It is not a money issue. The Colts could not do anything until Freeney was done. Glenn and Sanders were going to be next, but he is now burned out on football. He is looking for a break. He has kept in contact with management, but is leaning towards retiring.

Culpepper- had a good visit with TB. He has heard from Atl. That could determine what they do with Vick. Jax had a trade in place for a 6th rounder. He wants to keep options open and sign a 1 year deal. He has to prove that he is healthy.

He was pushed by Saban and that hurt him. He says he is healthy now.

Jets need to make a decision on Pete Kendall. They may have to just let him go since they will not be giving him a new deal at his age.

Jets could take a step back this year and they have added youth, so they should let him go. If he is let go, The Dolphins would have interest in him.

Bulger- There will not a be a deal done by camp, but he will report and will get a massive deal during the summer.

LJ- will not show up for camp. He is playing for a little over a million and they can franchise him next year. He wants 27 million and they are offering in the teens. It would be a huge PR hit for them to not have him in camp on time.
