ESPN waivers (1 Viewer)

We had to move our league to ESPN this year due to fanball problems. When trying to pick a player off waivers, it says you must drop a player first. I called ESPN, and they confirmed this. This would mean that if you don't get the player you put a claim in for, you would still lose the player you dropped. The only solution, they said, was to reset the rosters, and add another bench spot. This would allow us to put a waiver claim in, and conditionally drop a player who would only be cut if the claim was met. Anyone with experience on ESPN here that might be able to confirm this before we erase our rosters?

When you make a waiver claim in an ESPN league and are told that you have to drop a player, you simply check off the player that you intend to drop if the claim goes through. If someone else's claim takes priority over yours so that the player you're trying to take is no longer available, the conditional drop you set up isn't processed. You don't need to add any extra roster slots to deal with the issue.

That's the thing. It's saying that we have to drop a player BEFORE we even put the claim in. Sounded ridiculous to me, so I called them. Twice. Both times they told me that you needed an open spot on your roster to even put a waiver claim in. I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens. Is ESPN's customer support this poor that 2 times they would tell me the same thing?

This seems silly. I can't imagine that it's set up like that. I haven't processed a claim yet, but that would definitely be poor structure design if that is in fact how it works.

I just tried it and it works fine. Their customer support is a joke if two people tell me we had to add another roster spot. What a waste of time. I was on hold over an hour both times I called them. Thank you chuckmorris for your reply.

Thanks for posting this. I posted this question in the Assistant Coach forum and never got an answer to it.

No problem. This will be the 3rd year for me in an ESPN league, and the software actually works pretty well. Obviously some folks in their customer support don't really understand what they're supporting though. I imagine their heads would have exploded if you'd asked them what adjustments you'd need to make to your league rosters if you wanted to make it possible for owners to put in multiple waiver claims per week. :coffee: Just FYI, you can also put in multiple claims for different players, in which you specify the SAME player to be dropped, and prioritize them. That way if you've got some dead weight you know you want to get rid of, you can set up your claims so that you're sure to get somebody to replace the dead weight.
