ESPN's Mike & Mike To Be #2 MNF Broadcast Team (1 Viewer)

Seriously, that guy knows less about sports than my female co-worker who thought the Penn State kicker was ritarded because his picture was in the paper under the headline "Special Teams".
Did you see him milk a cow on TV this morning? Wondering if he is really this big of a sissy or if it is part of the on-air personna.

IMO this is why they are doing Arena Football now, to hone their chops aka shtick.
that was my thought to -- getting some play-calling experience. i don't watch arena -- can anyone comment on how they're doing on those games?
They are outstanding. I don't think the arena was to hone them for MNF. I tend to think it was more of a tryout to see how they did. I think they slam dunked their "test".J

Can't stand listening to Greenberg. He might as well be an annoying chick.
You mean he's not?
:)

I can see how people wouldn't like his personality. He's the metro guy and a self admitted total non jock. But he's very knowledgeable when it comes to sports. And he's an exceptionally talented broadcaster.J

The hardest part about allowing Mike Greenberg to do play-by-play is that his schtick on-air is that of "the fan". He makes no bones about his undying love for the Jets, for example. How's that going to play out if he's calling one of their games on a national broadcast? It's going to sound kind of awkward.
They are only doing one game on opening weekend. He isn't calling any Jets games. Unless he goes "Tonya Harding" on Mike Tirico.
The article is specuating that Mike and Mike could very well end up as the #1 MNF announce team in the near future.
And I'd agree. They are in the perfect spot playing the #2 role this year.J

The sooner Kornheiser is ran from MNF the better. That 'TONY! TONY! TONY!' song they seem to play every 5 minutes with clever questions from the audience is terrible television.

Makes perfect sense to me. They'll be excellent. #1 team had better be :lmao:

ESPN tabs Greenberg, Golic to head second MNF team

By Michael McCarthy, USA TODAY

ESPN is set to unveil a second Monday Night Football announcing team today: play-by-play Mike Greenberg, analysts Mike Golic and Mike Ditka and sideline reporter Bonnie Bernstein. The new team will make their MNF debut during the Arizona Cardinals vs. San Francisco 49ers game on Sept. 10, says ESPN's Norby Williamson, executive vice president for remote and studio production. The game will be the nightcap in a national NFL doubleheader on ESPN and will kick off at 10:15 p.m. ET.
A better Mike, Mike & Mike would be: play-by-play Mike Patrick, analysts Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg (well, Greenberg as more of a color commentator than analyst, in the mold of the old Howard Cosell roll ).

Mike and Mike are AWFUL. I have banned ESPN from my life, but this just locks in that I won't be watching. I mean, seriously, who could possibly think they are good at anything?

Their schtick is tired - you're fat, you're gay, hahahahahaha we so funny. Let's make wacky bets on who is smarter now. Let's promote the ESPYs now.

The only people that think Mike and Mike are quality sports radio live in the flyover states. They don't know poo when it's being shoved down their throats.

:lmao: Really? Do all the people that make them one of the most listened to shows in sports radio live in these "flyover states" :boxing:J

There was a very complimentary piece on them and the morning show in the New York Times last month. Was going to link or post it, but it is now archived/"for purchase.

Golic I can tolerate....but Greenberg is like fingernails on the chalkboard.
:goodposting: However, I do think Mike and Mike will be better than Theismann and Kornholio.

I'd love to see Neon Deion on a Monday night crew. Unlike Irvin, Deion seems much more listenable and composed.
Deon? Are you kidding me? The guy talks like an inner city televangelist the way he randomly overEMPHAsizes his speech AND ... randomly .. halts ... midsentence ... for ..... effect. .... TESTIFY!!!!After twenty minutes of that garbage, you'll either be scrambling for the remote .... or writing a check to his congregation.
so basically he is trying to be Jim Rome.
side note - if Rome ever sniffed the broadcast booth... yuck. The only way I'd watch is if they'd put ex-QB Chris Everett in the booth with him and then the staff didn't break up the ensuing fight.

I like Mike and Mike. That said, I fail to see how horribly this whole MNF thing has been going. Is it that hard? The show has been awful for years. How hard can it be to throw a couple three guys in the booth that are fun to listen to? Maybe the guys at ESPN need to go build some more rockets.
