Estes Park - CO (1 Viewer)

Taking the family to Estes Park for my 40th in June.  What do I do?

Going to rent a Jeep to go on trails

Flyfish

What else? Drive down to pikes peak? Over the continental divide?  I have 3&5 year old boys.

I'd check out Bear Lake assuming the 3 year old can hike around a mile (maybe less) round trip.  But it would be best to go on a weekday since parking is tough nowadays if you aren't earlier than 7.  If you go to Pikes Peak the cog rail is fun.  Garden of the Gods is cool too very pretty.  Cave of the Winds is fun also (again in same area).  Those are all probably 2 hours or so from Estes though.  Grand Lake is pretty and you can take the famous park road there (blanking on name) through the park.  Oskar Blues is close to Estes and a fun brew pub kid friendly.  Left Hand is nearish too but just a brewery so not as kid friendly.

My GF and I are going to do a trip to Boulder this summer. She wanted to go hiking in Estes Park.

Old Fall River Road is a great day drive. Head on up to the visitor center and head back is nice drive with a picnic along the way.

Grand Lake is over on other side taking Trail Ridge Road;

Brainerd Lake area south of Estes(outside of park) has some nice hiking trails and lakes for kids.

Fishing in Thompson Canyon

Not sure how much driving you like to do but the North side of the park across Cameron Pass (Highway 14) is great. Be on lookout for Moose from Walden up to the pass.

How early in June are you going? A bunch of snow so far may make 4WD trips either rough or undoable. Ride from Rollinsville to Winter Park is a good one by jeep, Winter Park has alpine slide and stuff.

Highway 34 from Loveland to Estes will be under some type of construction in to June. At times only open to residents.

Speaking of Trail Ridge Road.
