Everette Brown (1 Viewer)

Now that the draft has come and gone, I'm curious as to whether folks around here feel that Everette Brown is the future at RDE for Car? Any chance he can be a 40/10 or better guy? Car did give up their 1st round pick this year to get him last year, right? Thoughts?

I disagree on the Freeney comparison. He may never reach 45+ solo tackle consistency, but Brown should play with better leverage and set the edge better than Freeney (who isn't tasked with that and hardly ever tries).

Tyler Brayton is back in the fold now, but he's a bigger threat to steal snaps from Charles Johnson than Everette Brown. Greg Hardy is interesting, but he's likely to be left to develop this year, especially under a coach like John Fox. I think Brown is definitely the future at RDE for Carolina.

So Jene,

Of those three guys, Everette Brown, Charles Johnson, or Tyler Brayton which should finish the season with the most sacks? most tackles? best overall IDP player?

I think Brown will get the most snaps and should be the best overall bet. I think he's the favorite to lead in all three categories. For now, I'd guess that Johnson and Brayton do about what they did last year and will finish pretty close to each other.

do we see possible DE2 in a 16-team league that has IDP(ish) scoring for Brown? maybe 30-35 solos, 8-10 sacks and a handful of funstats thrown in?

I am really interested to see how offenses game plan for Carolina now that Peppers is gone. He demanded double teams because Carolina has lacked anything on the other side. I like Brown's talent, but not as much as others do. If Brown starts strong with the pass rush, he will get extra attention because Carolina's line is average at best. If this happens, I am interested to see how Brown handles it. If he struggles because of extra attention and you think that his performance looks solid, that is when you buy low. I have him about 20 in dynasty with possible top 10 upside, but I have to see more. I will be doing my redraft rankings early this week, but I expect him to be a few spots lower in redraft.

I'd say that is a possibility if you are talking redraft. DEs have huge value in 16 teamers because there simply aren't many good ones to pick from with so many teams running a 3-4 defense.

I have been high on Brown- trying to acquire him in the two leagues where I do not have him. I just got an offer asking for Mathias Kiwanuka in exchange for Brown and Cortland Finnegan. But, I have expected Brown to be the starter and near if not every down DE. This worries me. How much weight does this report have? Any other reporting saying otherwise?

I'm mildly concerned, but it's still early. Sometimes pass rushers are tough to gauge until they can turn it loose on an opposing QB. Regardless, Brown should still get plenty off snaps.

The report carries a lot of weight. I think you'll see Brayton playing LDE until/unless he shows he can't hold up against the run, with Brown rotating in on early downs maybe one series in three. Johnson will move inside to the 3-technique on nickel downs, with Brown and Hardy playing end.I still like Brown, but if Brayton can play as well or better against the run, it makes sense to hold Brown back fresh for pass rushing situations. In time, Brown will be an every-down end, but it's not unusual for Fox to make us wait for a promising young player to get full time reps -- even ones he's mortgaged future draft picks to get.

So is this the way that it's playing out, or is this a product of an abysmal team situation or is Brown just flat out sucking?
