I know Indy has passed from its place in the national consciousness that it used to have. It used to be like the Kentucky Derby, that event that is the only one from the sport that you pay attention to even if you don't otherwise follow the sport. But it seems like those days are mostly gone with the current generations.
It's still a thing for me though. Grew up on the Michigan-Indiana border, with Indiana stations that couldn't broadcast the race live due to blackout rules. So we listened to it on the radio then watched the TV replay later in the evening. Always preferred an oval track over sharp turns, just feel like they break up a flow of a race.
It's a family thing and a nostalgia thing for me and the highlight of Memorial Day weekend. And I'm looking forward to it after a rough week or two. So, here's
for Indy and enjoying the race. Cheers to anyone else who is going to settle in for a few hours of joy at the Brickyard.
Gentlemen, start your engines!
