Experiment 11 Weeks In. (1 Viewer)

Haven't posted on these boards in years so here goes... In 2 NFL.com leagues, 4 Yahoo leagues, 1 ESPN league and one CBS league all but two are money leagues. I did a little experiment by using the rankings from the hosting site to set my weekly line up except for one Yahoo league and the CBS league.(Yah I'm too busy to do my own research which is why I subscribe here) For those two I used the (customized for my leagues) weekly FootballGuys Dodds/Norton rankings. All I can say is I'm in first in the two NFL.com leagues, In solid playoff contention in the three yahoo leagues (1st in 2) and in solid playoff contention in the ESPN league. In the 2 leagues using this sites projections I'm 2-9 in CBS and 5-6 in the Yahoo league. Using Dodds/Norton instead of host site projections cost me 3 losses in CBS and 2 in the Yahoo league. Would be in the hunt in those two had I used the host site instead. Hope it's just a fluke.

You got lucky that you did well in the other leagues. If you based every lineup on a certain sites rankings what fun is it?

Its not much of an expiriment in my opinion. Maybe the two teams your using Dodds/Henry instead of default rankings just are not as good of teams.

Not sure what to tell you. Use what is working for you and don't use what is not, but there may be other reasons for the difference in results than the difference in rankings.

Would have more significance if you had a similar team with each league. Although, if you documented each sites advice you could go back n track it

Try doing your own rankings Week13. Why not? It's the last week of the season. Don't look at any sites. I'm not being snarky, it's actually really fun to do for a week, and it's the last week of the season for most of us. It's kind of an eye opener when you realize the line between RB11 and RB17 is pretty fuzzy.

ProTip: the X-spurts are guys/gals with an opinion. You should be, too.

Sample size is too small. There are numerous variables unaccounted for. Your conclusions are not valid.

I should have been more specific but who wants to read long posts? I (almost) always used my own rankings in the past along with multiple site consensus. Just too busy last couple years. I have never found this site to have an "edge" in weekly rankings. FootballGuys is the best I've used for draft prep, stat analysis and FF geekiness but over the years I've found them severely lacking in in-season weekly rankings. IMHO just an area they should try and upgrade to reward paying members.

Forgot one suggestion. Hire a geek to analyze this sites accuracy, autopsy style, along with comparison against maybe 4-5 other sites for, let's say, the top 25 at each offensive position ( screw K and Def ). With a running "accuracy" grade this analysis could get a lot of readership of players who want help like me and players who do their own research who want to double check their lineup against the site with the "hot hand".

There is already a site out there aggregating and reporting accuracy

I've been conducting my own experiment for 25 years: picking my own line-ups every week.

Sometimes I cheat though and do the opposite of what Flapgreen suggests (only when he seems so sure). Ha, just joking.

The last time someone posted a link like this, the "best" were still wrong ~40-50% the time.  In fact in light of this I want to say they stopped posting the actual accuracy stats.. now it is only a relative ranking versus others.

Use this site and others to get all the information you can, and cast the die.. you are now on an even playing field with the "experts".

Thanks! Good stuff. However, either FootballGuys isn't rated there or they're not in the top 122 for weekly accuracy.

Right after the current week ends, I sent my line up for the next week based on my own thoughts/gut BEFORE any of the site rankings go up. I then use those rankings just as a comparison to make me think about my own line up decision. Gotta say that it feels 50/50 when I switch due to FBG input or stick to my guns. (i.e.  As Soulfly said, it's a crap shoot).
