Explain Calvin Johnson's Ranking (1 Viewer)

Many expected he might finally break out with the R. Williams injury and all we got was a healthy dose of K. Jones. SD doesn't give up a lot of passing TDs (only 17 all year). They lead the league in interceptions and pile up sacks. This doesn't seem like a good combo for Kitna. It seems his name gives this false impression that he's a reliable option each week when he isn't. You might get a random TD, but I think he'll put up his average statistics like last week. 8-10 targets. 5 catches. 60 yards.

Pretty simple really, R. Williams out means more balls for the rest of the talented Detroit WRs. Last week Calvin had 8 targets, his 3rd highest total this year and Shaun McDonald had 12 targets, his second highest total of the year. Calvin also nearly had a TD grab. Furrey didn't get a lot of PT or looks his way.

So FBG are projecting McDonald as the 14th best WR option of the week with a line of 6, 77, .5.

Johnson the 19th best option with a line of 6, 71, .5.

Seems reasonable to me.

Oh and Detroit ran 32 rushing plays and 36 passing last week so slightly more run-based than normal, but overall pretty balanced.

They will also probably be playing catchup against SD, so...........I don't see it being all KJones.

add to that Merriman is out this week, which should put a dent in the amount of pressure that San Diego will be able to put on Kitna....

Merriman being out makes a huge difference in the quality of San Diego's defense. And the 17 pass touchdowns allowed isn't THAT impressive, only 11th in the league.

Also, Martz has generally drifted away from the running game in the playcalling, until Marinelli throws a fit and he goes back to it. I don't think you'll see another week like last week again this year.

I just hope you don't see another 3 target game like the one against Minny or two weeks earlier against the Giants.

Among the teams the Chargers have faced include the Ravens, Raiders, Bears, Vikings, Titans and two against the Chiefs. I feel their pass defense numbers are good because of the sorry pass offenses they have faced rather than them being a great pass defense.

 I hate to, but I might start Calvin over Chris Cooley depending on how dreadful the weather is.

Turns out that the forgotten man in Detroit heading into the season is/was Shaun McDonald. He's been nearly as good as Roy Williams. With Calvin being the high draft pick with the fancy nickname, ROY being his normal stellar self, and Furry coming off leading the NFC in catches last season, not many figured on Shaun doing anything.

Fast forward and he's going to be the top receiver there by the end of the season. He was behind ROY going into last week but with ROY on the shelf, it's only a matter of time until Shaun passes him.
