I'll admit that I havent listened to Beck regularly in years. He was a local afternoon radio guy here in Tampa in the late 90's and went into national syndication in early 2002. He was hilariously funny when he was a local guy. But I never got the Alex Jones conspiracy vibe from him even when I listened to him in the mid 2000's.He is a part of a long tradition of media personalities who combine flamboyance and charismatic personality with populism and a certain amount of nativism and outright bigotry. Americans have always had a taste for this sort of thing, dating back to Father Coughlin from the time radio began. Beck's main theme is that the world and this country are controlled by outside, secret forces who are in charge of everything that happens; none of it is accidental or coincidental. And the target and victim of all of these conspiracies is the white, middle class, middle aged Christian American male, who only wants to do right by his family and his country and is baffled by everything that is going on.
This is nothing new, but Beck is particularly good at peddling it.
He's a paranoid whack job. For the most part he is aligned with the anti-government/tea party/conservative movements, but his paranoid beliefs trump everything else. So occasionally he'll say things that might seem left-ish.More specifically what are his leanings and agenda? Just saw a YouTube video of his where he shows one of the head honchos in Syria cutting out the heart and liver of someone he just killed and "eating" it. Flash to Putin asking why the US is backing this nutter. What's Beck's angle?
Alex Jones is more direct, and also more ridiculous. Beck is a little bit more subtle (compared to Jones, which means not much!). When he was on Fox, the best part was when he would draw lines criss crossed on a chalkboard showing how everybody is connected to everybody else! By the end there were always so many lines it was a huge mess.I'll admit that I havent listened to Beck regularly in years. Imagine if Alex Jones, Timothy Leary, and Mitt Romney all simultaneously impregnated Miss Piggy and she had a kid. That's him.

Interesting how?He was interesting 10 years ago or so. When the economy collapsed in 2008, he went off the deep end.

Don't believe anything the government tells you, absolutely nothing. But there's a 21yo kid who found some golden plates in the woods of western NY, he's the guy with the answers.

The "thing" he's been talking about since 2011, and has constantly been changing? He called the caliphate thing
Actually he didn't "call" that anyway; a bunch of other conspiracy minded guys on the right did; Beck simply glommed on. And anyhow it's not true. The "thing" he's been talking about since 2011, and has constantly been changing? He called the caliphate thing
