Explain NFL Sunday Ticket to me (1 Viewer)

Don't be surprised if you see a switch from satellite to cable for nfl sunday ticket in the near future...

At the time they came out with it, digital cable wasn't very popular. The NFL is a business... they'll make a TON more money once they switch to cable...

What exactly is the deal with blackouts? Arrowhead has been sold out since I was old enough to appreciate football, so I don't really know the rules with it. Are there a lot of the games that get blacked out even if they aren't local to you?

Unfortunately, I'm a Time Warner customer, and they seem to hold a grudge. Despite many, many people calling them up, writing them letters, and sending emails...they refuse to even give us NFL Network. I think they recently got sued (and lost) because they took over some Comcast customers that had it, and tried to take it away. They were ordered to give it back to them. But Comcast isn't an option where I live.

I've had DTv Sunday Ticket for 4 years now, and i'll just say this....ITS THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD!!!

With the 4 different receivers they give you, I am able to set up 4 TV's around my place with different games so my friends and I can all watch our teams.(not to mention all of our FF players)

The ONLY problem that comes into play every so often is when small market teams do not sell out their games. And in the 4 years the only team that does this consistently is the San Diego Super-Homo's.

i dont get it with those fans, but if your team is playing an away game in SD, there is a good chance it may be blacked out.

But being a NYJ fan in Los Angeles, i can say that w/o the "Ticket" football season would be a hassle to enjoy and i'd go broke from going to a sports bar every week, like i did when i first moved here.

The HD channels are sweet and with the year round NFL channel i'm mainlined into football season all year.

While it may sound pricey at $200 or so for the season, with the money you save from staying, drinking and eating at home.....you'll be glad you did it!

Ive got a question about the superfan package.

For the Game-Mix channel to function, you need a d-10 or later model DTV receiver....I have a DVR box for a receiver. Will I be able to take advantage of the Game Mix functions with my DVR box receiver???

I had the free Superfan preview last year and although I could see the 8 games at once on the screen, I had no game audio and I couldnt toggle between the games...it was just music in the background I think (or maybe no sound...I cant really remember)

So, if I have a DVR box as my receiver, what would I have to do to get full functionality out of the Game Mix channel??? Would I have to get the D-10 (or newer) box and get rid of my DVR box (which is also my receiver)?? That doesnt sound right.

edit: DirecTv does have an interactive DVR box, but its NOT Tivo, so the interface is completely different...If youre thinking about upgrading to this box Id do some research online and read some reviews on this box before you decide to get it. The box is Model R-15.

Ok, just got off the phone with DirecTv cust retention (800-824-9081)

I was able to get the Superfan package for free, plus $20 off my DirecTv bill for the next 6 months.

I was also offered the interactive DVR box for $99 with free shipping (the R-15), but Ive read too many bad reviews on the R-15 and the interface is totally different than the Tivo bix I already have....so I passed on that.

So, I wont have the full functionality of the Game-Mix, but since I got the Superfan pack for free Im not gonna complain about it. I still have the Red Zone Channel, Short Cuts, and the Game Mix channel (without interactive function).

Total savings: $219 ($99 for superfan plus $120 off my DirecTv bill, which is basically $120 off my ST package)

:pickle:

This is not correct. After the 2005 season, DirecTV kept exclusive rights to the National Football League's "NFL Sunday Ticket" out-of-market package through 2010 via a five-year, $3.5 billion deal.Cable companies had a chance to bid on it, but it was too rich for their blood.I'm sure ST is a money loser for DirecTV, but it sure does hook them up with new subscribers. That's the only reason I ever subscribed, and now I love it. There are few things in life sweeter than telling your local cable monopoly to get lost.

From a dumb question department?I called the DirecTV customer retention department and got a free HD-DVR and free Superfan for continuing my NFL Sunday Ticket. My question is if I don't have a High Definition TV wil I see any benefits from the HD-DVR? It was free so I ran with it, but as was mentioned the equipment is leased and I could receive a free DVR that would be mine.
The storage on it is greater so while you can't utilize the HD picture you can store a lot more content on it than you can from the regular DTV-Tivo.

I currently have Total Choice Plus with the Sportspak (20+ of Fox's regional sports channels, plus Speed, Golf, etc..) - $61.00 per month for programming. Called CR at DTV & told them Dish was beating on me to get their Gold HD package introductory offer.

They are sending me a free HD DVR (I already have an HD TV, but have never had HD programming :bag: ), the NFL ST w/superfan upgrade, & all the premium channels for $69.99 per month for 4 months. So, I'm basically paying $8 more per month for 4 months to get all of the above. After the 4 months are up, I'll be paying an extra $9.99 for HD programming (which is a little skimpy right now), but I'll have the HD DVR.

No issues with the picture, though, from a HD to receiver to non-HD TV?

I'm looking at the same deal. Everything looks great, but they want to charge $19.95 for shipping/handling, but will "waive" the installation/activation cost. I'm thinking I'm going to call around for a local rep to see if I can skip this fee. Any advice?

Has anybody used a Slingbox to watch NFL sunday ticket on their laptop from a remote location? I would like to know if it works well.
I have been watching all the preseason games and it works very well. I have a 700 kbps upload speed though. The better your upload speed, the better it will work. In fact, I normally watch using my Treo's EVDO connection, either on the Treo itself or with the Treo connected to my laptop. The quality is excellent.

Sweet. Do you really have to have a freaking land line to get it? That's so 1992.

I am seriously considering this as I live in Alabama and my dad and I (and two friends of mine) are huge Bears fans and they never show the Bears on national TV (I think after making the playoffs we've been bumped up to two spots), and basically we spent a small fortune at this sportsbar last year. I was thinking that Sunday ticket might actually save us money. We're currently paying about $99 for cable right now (which is kind of insane) so this does sound like a pretty sweet deal.

One question: is it only the Sunday games or does it also have weekly programming, like analysis shows or game replays, highlights, etc?
No, you don't have to have a land line. They want you to, but just tell them you don't have one, that you use a cell phone. The only disadvantage is IF you get a TIVO, you have to have a land line to at least do the innitial hookup and installation. But if you had to, but a 100 ft cord, and borrow your neighbors phone line for 5 minutes. :bag:
First off, Sunday Ticket is very good. As for the phone line; you could get this WIRELESS G receiver that uses your wireless network....Tivo Wireless Not sure if this is the best place to buy it but it looks pretty cool. I also saw it on Sunday in the Best Buy insert....Oh, and don't hesitate to sign up. DirecTv+Sunday Ticket RULES

First off, I love Sunday Ticket. I really dont understand hard core FF players who dont have it.
i watch the games at the sports bar so i can see them all simultaneously, understand?
Don't give your hard-earned money to a sports bar every week.Do what I did, slacker. (See the Sunday Ticket link in my sig) It's easy to set up, and once you buy the TVs the only added cost is $5/month for each receiver. You only live once.
Does your wife or girlfriend have any sisters?

rulesthis is not true. the only market that will be blacked out if the chargers don't sell out in time is san diego.

They hit me with the shipping cost too (& waived the installer fee), but at that point I wasn't going to quibble anymore. I think I could have pushed to get that waived, but I was worn out after 45 minutes on the line. If anyone ever gets Andretta with Customer Retention, be ready to talk (or listen to her talk) - she was a sweetheart, but Lordy....

I just called CR and was turned down. I explained that I already pay extra for HD and shouldn't have to pay additional. The rep apologized for the inconvenience but stated it is an extra charge for the Superfan. I told him that I would not be geting the ticket if that is the case and he said "sorry to hear that." I'm a new customer (6 months) and recently had a few credits (totaling $300) for service I had to pay out of pocket for a botched DirecTV install. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. I'm thinking of calling back and threatening to downgrade my package because of my dissatisfaction.

I'm calling back today and will again explain why I don't think it is right to get an additional charge for HD football games when I already pay a monthly HD fee. If I don't get at least a 50% discount on Super Fan I'm going to cancel HBO, Starz and Showtime and say I'm leaving DirecTV when my contract is up. I pay over $30 per month for these premium channels 12 months a year, you'd think a $100 credit for Super Fan would be worth it to keep me purchasing them.

If it doesn't work try the BBB. They talk to people you don't know, up the food chain, but it takes awhile.

I just ordered Direct Tv+ NFL sunday ticket this morning and they said they could have someone come install Monday! I got free install, free DVR, free portable DVD player, for the 69.00 deal. Only problem that now has me freaking out is that they said you have to have a clear view of the southern horizon or something like that and I'm in a Condo on the bottom/back surrounded by woods. View is nice on my porch but I'm gonna be :hot: if they can't install it come Monday. Anyone else had any concerns about whether they would be able to get a signal or not?
