Explain this one to me... (1 Viewer)

I play a game daily on the Washington Post website called Play Four, and it is a silly little word game. Recently the Post has started limiting the number of times you can play in a row. (This only occurs when you miss a couple days and feel like doing them all) The 'error' causes you to go to a page that offers subscriptions.

My question is why does it cost $99 (Digital) or $149/year (Digital Premium) for digital only subscriptions (Premium has a smart device app.) and $54/year for a subscription with a Sunday paper and a Premium subscription? Heck it only costs $155 for a daily paper and the Premium.

Why would they charge more for the Digital only subscriptions? It's cheaper for them to distribute!! And people wonder why newspapers are dying...

Maybe the regular subscription offer has a limited delivery area, which forces out-of-towners to get the digital version?

My guess, there's a lot of advertising revenue to be made with the Sunday paper.

ETA: probably the same reason why Comcast internet is cheaper with basic cable than no cable at all.

Really? By how much? With cablevision, they only take 5 bucks off the cost of internet if you also have tv

Bezos rolled the WP app for Amazon Fire tablets. Its free for 6 months and 99 cents total for the next 6 months. So basically 99 cents for a year. Regular rates supposedly after a year but after getting the product free I don't know how they will charge $54 for a year. I read it almost every day but I'm not paying full price when my time is up
