Explosions at Boston Marathon (1 Viewer)

Very scary day. I had crossed the finish line around 5-10 minutes before the bombs went off and was about a block and a half away. My wife and kids were directly between the two blasts and are all unhurt.
Wow...glad you and your wife and kids were ok.

Especially with you already passing and them not yet walking to catch up with you?

Wow...very good to hear they are ok.

On the positive side if there is one, at least there were plenty of EMTs and medical personnel right there at the finish line, I'm sure they saved lives being so close to help right away. god bless everyone up there.

What a sad, sad world we live in. This is the first marathon I haven't attended in the last 5 years. Can't believe this is the town I grew up in. My God, i am just still in shock and dazed and I wasn't even there. Thoughts and prayers to anyone who was there.

Also, the ideal running conditions meant the medical tent was not busy at all, compared with last year when it was 87 degrees.

Looks like the city really handled this well at first glance. I mean almost perfectly.

Since there was no warnings/chatter, really starting to believe this is a lone wolf or small cell attack.

So glad you and your family are OK. You know your support team here has been worried!

I would think something like this very scenario has been rehearsed by now during the drills that all big cities do nowadays.

It's Patriot's Day there. I missed what this is about...
How do you plan on making some money off of this? Fake charity like normal?
Have no idea what you're talking about but this certainly is not a thread to try and "be funny" in. Reported.
Not trying to be funny. I know what you did on another board. I will let it go. Your conscience.

Thoughts and prayers to all involved in this horrible attack. :( :( :(

So John Miller on CBS News reports...

Saudi National IS in CUSTODY...a witness saw him acting oddly near the bomb, ran like everyone when it blew, tackled and held him for police, he's apparently cooperating with the investigation and denies involvement.

Careful not to calm him a suspect or even so much as a PoI

Just absolutely disgusted by this nonstop violence. What type of creatures are we that we just kill, hate and maim? Many many prayers going out to the innocent people that were victimized by whatever demonic evil that is behind this. We think that it could have been worse, and that is true, but my God - kids, women, elders and a lot of Americans and international guests. I am sickened...

Numerous friends of mine ran today, none finished, diverted to area hotels or the common. Thankfully none were hurt, but all said they heard the blasts. WTF is wrong with this world?

So someone tackled a cooperative brown guy?

I've been wondering since the first mention of this if someone was arrested for being an Arab near an explosion.

Stop it. If you're sarcastic, the terrorists will win.

Sucks big time to prepare and be good enough to make that event and not get to finish.

Obviously pales in comparison to those killed or injurred.

Who was apparently also wounded with severe burns, but info is sketchy...

John Miller is a pretty well connected, sharp cookie, Post gets half a star here, they also reported/are reporting that 12 are dead when the rest of the world is saying 2.

Switched over to ESPN and they're doing pretty well just interviewing people who were there. Much less scattershot than the news networks right now.

Maybe this is sad to say, but it is really surprising this stuff doesn't happen more on US soil. Terrorism (by anyone) is about installing fear, and after today, folks will be a little more paranoid, at least in the short term. I couldn't imagine living in some of the MIddle Eastern countries where those stuff happens frequently and in common places like busses and cafes. That would really change the way you live your life day to day.

Just depressing.

Days like this showcase the worst in people and the best. Great job to all civilians helping out on a day where they just went to enjoy a race and support friends and family.

The acts of placing the bombs has to be on surveillance tapes or some sort of media coverage, right? There had to have been cameras running on that area all day. I'm guessing that the FBI is currently culling through tons of hours of footage trying to place an individual at the site of the multiple bomb spots. I hope they discover something soon.

I'm glad to hear that the FBG marathoners and their families are safe thus far.

Second link on CNN's front page says that Obama didn't use the word "terror." While I agree this is a terror attack (whether it be international or domestic) and even federal investigators are categorizing it as that, is this really the 2nd most important story?

It's emblematic of parts of the overall story, such as the ever-more-blurry lines between domestic and foreign terrorism, what "terrorism" even means, etc.

he will get beat up for it in the coming days/weeks.

I assume his next statement will be made once there's more info and at that point he will use the word and identify somebody at least loosely.

Story 1 is the attack, Story 2 is how the administration approaches the attack.

I thought this was interesting, from USA Today there is the summary of the presser, in which the T-word is not mentioned (ok, I can buy that, too early, even though it sure it looks like the elephant in the room), but...

President Obama talks on the phone to FBI Director Robert Mueller about the explosions in Boston on Monday as chief of staff Denis McDonough and homeland security and counterterrorism advisor Lisa Monaco look on
...the administration puts out this photo including prominently this one member of the team assembled to discuss the situation.

Don't care what kind of terrorists it is, but hopefully with all the video around they catch these ####s and hang them in the town square.
Agree 1000%. Its too bad some people in here are really hoping it's right wing extremists.

That's pretty obvious by the postings of some in here.

Pretty sad indeed.

I think our response to a domestic attack (whether right wing or left wing or just pure insane) will be far less drastic than if it is foreign nationals.

How would we know what to expect if it was foreign? The closest thing we have since 2001 has been what, the Times Square attack (was that domestic?, foreign?, can't remember)? Ft. Hood (domestic, but foreign inspired)?

Well that the administration is visually communicating that they are considering terrorism but they won't say that in the presser.

Sure, they are considering it. They are considering every scenario. But as shown by Libya, apparently everything they say is on record so they aren't going to give anything that can come back and bite them.

They still at 2 fatalities?
Yes. 110 injured now.
That is the sort of number we are used to hearing come from attacks in other countries.
This is right on par with the Atlanta Olympic bombing, actually
True, pre-2001, but you're right of course.

And I'm sure there have been other incidents in US history with those numbers, going back.
I mean, I was just sayin'
