I can see the Pressure Cooker Bill of 2013 Act coming real soon.
You are such a ####### doosh
Why? You don't think there will be some effort to track pressure cookers by serial numbers and make them designed so they would be less effective to use for making bombs? I can see something being done.
wow
They regulate soft drinks....you think this is a stretch. They monitor stuff that can be used in growing pot. I would actually be shocked if there aren't politicians right now thinking of regulations that can be put in place to stop this.
How are we doing on guns?

I would like to just ignore Two Deep, but unfortunately there are many many people who feel the same way he does, and I fear their number will grow in the days to come...remember the reaction to the "Ground Zero Mosque"? Multiply that.
There's always gonna be a vocal minority of people like that. Thankfully we outnumber them in this country. by a lot. It's not gonna get close any time soon. Just look how quickly the poster was shouted down here by pretty much everyone else in the thread.
Yeah because you all are so much better than me hiding behind your holier than thou attitudes while drooling in this thread for the death of this terrorist (muslim).
do you feel the same way about right wing nutjobs like McVeigh? how do we stop that type of terrorism?
What is here is here and we can't stop every person with bad intentions, but again we don't really need to invite people from countries or regions that shout death to Americans to potentially add to those numbers.

I am an engineer, so can answer a few Qs about the pressure cooker.

Pressure cooker essentially operates off this principal

http://www.ajss-group.com/boilers/b_info_steam_table.jpg

As pressure goes up, water boils at a higher temperature. When you are cooking food you are generally boiling the water within the food. The pressure cooker, by allowing pressure to rise, cooks at a higher temperature. This only works if the cooker can hold higher pressures.

So you want to get rid of pressure cookers - ok. They are only a convenient pipe bomb. You can still order a 2 feet of schedule 10 18"D piping, and two end caps. Drill a hole in one end cap, and you have your cooker. This cannot be legislated away

CBS said the 7-11 robbery wasn't them.
They've been going back and forth on that.. Inside report was that they were at a 7/11 but may not have been the ones that held up a 7/11. Still coincidental that his photo was taken at a 7/11, then a hold up, then a car jacking all within the same area..

How dumb were these guys that they didn't at least have a couple grand to run with and had to hold up a 7-11? A few fewer grenades and they could be chilling in a Motel 8 somewhere.
I read (and honestly I don't recall where I read it earlier today) but it was around the idea that they might have been part of a larger cell and that the reason they were still in Boston, and robbing a 7-11 and car jacking someone was because after the bombs went off, the others from their cell bailed on them (i.e. took off without picking them up, etc) which left them stranded in Boston without any money, etc.

Who knows to be honest, but it is curious why they've done the things they've done since the bombs went off.
Well they weren't exactly "stranded" in Boston. They live there.
Yeah, that's why it doesn't sound right. Also you'd think any large cell they were part of would have to be pretty dumb to bail on them, and risk getting ratted out if they get taken alive.

My best guess, and it is only that (OBVIOUSLY), is that they may have been loosely associated with another group, maybe some training back in Russia, but I think they did what they did mostly on their own. They were both bright, it seems. How much supervision would they need to make Google-able bombs?

I think they maybe underestimated law enforcement, quickly realized they weren't getting away at all (and maybe they ALWAYS knew that), and had a Butch and Sundance thing going on. Holdups, car-jacking, and shootouts? That takes a little different mindset that quietly walking down the street, and putting a bag down. You can be a true coward, and drop a dufflebag on the floor.

I am quite ready to believe this mayhem was part of the plan.

Just curious: has anyone on here ever cooked something in a pressure cooker? What do you need vast amounts of air pressure to cook?

One story not being reported was the man arrested in the middle of the night. CNN showed this dude completely naked in handcuffs about 100 times. They said this might be a suspect. Naked, in cuffs, on CNN, being suspected of terrorism, has to be one of the worst wrong place/ wrong time situations ever.

I saw somewhere they were due back in Russia in a few days. Maybe they thought they'd be able to hide out and leave as scheduled? But then why wouldn't you schedule your flight out the next day at the latest?

Remember when your parents used to say "nothing good happens outside of your home after midnight"? That's what they mean.

CBS reporting that it seems it's possible the shooting of the Police Officer at MIT was the first thing.. But as the News Anchor is saying it is completely :loco: as the Officer was sitting in his car and had not even drawn his weapon when they gunned him down.

It's not vast really. It is one atmosphere above normal air pressure. It comes in real handy at altitude and it cooks things much faster in general. But they can be dangerous and if you don't put the lid on properly it can blow up scalding folks or hurting them with the flying lid.

If they really wanted to get away, they could have quietly walked to their car, driven away doing the speed limit, and be switching cars 35 miles outside of the city as the bomb went off.

Clearly part of the False Flag operation. The authorities wanted to set these guys up, and knew where they were, so they staged the 7-11 holdup to alert police to their location. Gives Boston PD a reason to bust the patsies while keeping the federal government who staged it all in the background.

OK, now the report from State Troopers that the Honda CRV were incorrect and the troopers were always looking for a green Honda civic which they found later.. So much going on..

Tend to agree and think it works against the OMG sophisticated terror cell idea. We have multiple examples of idiots who decide to go on a killing spree that perform "fearless" actions. Meanwhile, if these guys were true pros, I have to think there would have been much better concealment, a much better plan to vacate the area and a much better job of avoiding detection. This whole situation strikes me as being similar to Columbine where you have a couple of individuals with a deep connection to each other that have so much anger they decide the best solution is hurting others.

And then the midget they hid in the car to throw explosives out during the chase was a stroke of genius.

Listening live to CBS Boston so blame them.. I know the 7/11 report was made on the brothers not being part of it.. but it was just rumored to be reported.. Now they are stating the police have officially stated they weren't.. Sorry if I am 2 minutes behind. ;)

Just curious: has anyone on here ever cooked something in a pressure cooker? What do you need vast amounts of air pressure to cook?
It's 15 psi. It's really not that incredible an amount of pressure.
Small note, it is definitely not 15 psi

15 psig is operating pressure. If the cooker blew apart at 15 psi, no one could use it without getting a new kitchen (and lawyer) on each use.

There is a relief device built in to relieve pressure at 15 psi. That gets removed by the terrorists. Still, the vessel likely can handle 30-45 psi before it is compromised (explodes). A safety factor of 3 (meaning 45 psi) is very typical on these vessels

No offense, snogger, but you are waaaaay behind on info. There is another thread to get everyone caught up.

Not with the RC equipment that they were using. 200yds would have probably been the maximum distance from the bomb and still be able to detonate.

First I'm hearing and/or seeing it here.. Again, blame the Boston CBS live feed if I'm behind on typing what I am hearing.. Just trying to keep people not able to listen live up to date.

He asked why you need vast amounts of pressure to cook. The max pressure on a pressure cooker is generally 15 psi, which I'm saying isn't a vast amount of pressure.

And, again, you can put more than 30-45 psi in a tire before it blows. Not so for a pressure cooker. There just isn't much you can do to reduce their danger without making them useless.

Ah, that's interesting. I don't know that.

I assumed cell phone or a simple timer.

Its all good. A lot of us are listening to BPD police scanner: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ma-rt-9-window-cam

This guy has what, 50-60 more minutes on the planet?
I have been thinking this for about 4 hours now....
Been waiting for about 15 hours now..... I am shocked they didn't get this guy after following the scanner last night.
No doubt. They had a window and i think that window closes more and more each hour until he makes a move/mistake. If he's still, and it seems he's in his backyard, it may be days.

But is the fact that it can hold a modest pressure valuable to the bomb maker? I thought it was just a little more convenient to put the bomb in there because the top would be held on (as opposed to a lobstah pot).
