I feel much better. Clearly, police aren't relaying any worthwhile info. over scanners. I was worried for a little while there.

I don't remember seeing this posted in the thread, but if I missed it, I'm sorry to snogger.
Was listening to WCBS when I was coming home. They had a report that when Black hat got out of the car during the firefight last night and threw the pressure cooker that it did detonate. Luckily, the top had been jarred loose, so instead of bursting into shrapnel, the explosion just sent the cooker off like a rocket. It lodged in a police car's door. That lid coming loose sounds like the difference between no casualties and a bunch of them.
ETA: Can you imagine how much it would suck to be growing pot in your closet in Watertown right now?

So, 14 hours since he was last seen? You can go a long way in 14 hours.
I'm still a little puzzled as to how they lost track of him after exchanging gunfire. I know it was dark, but I'd think someone would have kept a bead on him.

Can someone answer 2 simple questions for me like I'm snogger?
1. When he was last seen, was he on foot or in the car? I know he ran over his brother leaving the scene, but the current search seems like he escaped on foot and is holed up in vicinity.
2. What exactly started this last night? Neither is an MIT student, correct? What were they doing on campus and what happened with the officer?

Tripped a motion sensor in a building they knew he went into.
Report disturbance at MIT. MIT officer responds and got shot. speculation from the sheer amount of bombs they had on their person suggests they were planning on planting bombs around the city last night.

to 1. He drove a couple blocks away and either crashed or just abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot.2. No explanation right now why they were at MIT and why they shot an officer that was sitting in his car and hadn't drawn his weapon.. Speculation that they saw him driving around and then come to a stop near them and they panicked.. But pure speculation..

State Police released a summary of the events that led to the death of bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev and the closing of metro Boston communities as law enforcement searched for his younger brother.In a statement, police said the first indication of trouble was 10:24 p.m. when MIT Police received a call from someone reporting they had heard what they feared was gunshots. Four minutes later, the 7-11 store at 750 Massachusetts Avenue was the victim of an armed robber =- but that crime was not commited by the brothers, State Police now say.One minute later, however, authorities allege that the brothers did shoot and kill MIT Police Oficer Sean A. Collier as the officer sat in his MIT cruiser.Two minutes later, authorities receive a call that a car has been carjacked by two men outside 816y Memorial Drive. A short time later – it was not immediately clear – a Transit Police officer spots the vehicle and pursues, a chase that came to a stop in Watertown.’In the moments that followed, 200 rounds were fired by police and apparently by the brothers. Police also recovered “numerous pieces of evidence” including “evidence of homemade explosives, including pipe bombs and another pressure cooker,’’ State Police said.Also, contrary to what Alben said earlier this afternoon, no potential explosives were found on Norfolk Street in Cambridge where the two brothers lived, and a planned “controlled explosion’’ was deemed unwarranted.“We did not have to do the controlled detonation,’’ State Police spokesman David Procopio wrote. “We thought a car there might have an explosive but it did not.’’
That's not true at all. Police choppers have huge spotlights on them. They are all over the place at night in L.A. when the police are looking for suspects at night.
He ran over his brother so I am assuming he was in a car...and I have seen enough of cops to know that they get their big spotlights going to track him

Same elderly male in photo released yesterday of #2 leaving the marathon scene without backpack? The same guy who is smiling looking at #2 run away while everyone else's face is nothing but sheer terror? I wonder.
