Where did the name Mike Mulugeta come from if not from the police?

I don't know this for a fact, but I think the name DID come over the scanner, but it was for an unrelated case.

I was one of the crazy guys who stayed up listening to the scanner feed all night. I definitely heard the name Mike Mulugeta on the scanner, but never heard the name Sunil Tripathi. I only saw these two names listed together on reddit a few minutes after Mike Mulugeta was mentioned on the scanner.

I think I heard it as well. I thought I heard Sunil's first name but could be mistaken. I think Mulugeta was mentioned in the reddit threads before it was mentioned on the scanner (in those few hours when reddit was running with those names).

Pretty sure the scanner feed everyone was listening to was not just from one department. There are several departments that are on one feed from the website. People could've heard one department's transmission then immediately heard another and confused the two. Also. some systems do not run on the same frequency and bounce to different channels just so listeners can't follow.

Somehow after the pictures were released by the FBI of the bombers, the 4chan and reddit people scoured the interwebs and found the story about Sunil Tripathi disappearing from Brown University with a picture of him. They declared that he was suspect #2 based on the pictures. This became a fact on the interwebs, even though they didn't look like the same person. I got ridiculed for saying that here. There is nothing odd about it except that people on the interwebs now try to solve crimes better than the FBI can.

Actually some of Tripathi's HS classmates called it in.

He was fingered as part of the press grasping at leads straws. Everybody wants to be the first for breaking news and here was a foreign born person who fit a profile and couldn't be accounted for. AFAIK we still have no answer to his disappearance but we do know he was not the bomber. Height? pfffft. That wasn't even in the equation at that point in the profiling.

It's baffling that these two clowns didn't have an exit strategy. The kid had his car in the shop. It appears neither one had a job. They had to rob somebody to get a car and ATM money. They had no money and no plan. These guys appear to not be very smart yet somehow figured out how to build several bombs. Maybe that was the easy part. But how can two people this stupid do that much damage?

When you think about it, what was the exit strategy of the Columbine, Virginia Tech or Sandy Hook kids? The only difference here is that after the initial terror attack, these two brothers were able to commit another act a couple of days later.

They tried to get away with it though. They went back to their lives and acted as if they did nothing. That was never the plan with the other examples you listed.

Exactly. And where did they get their money? It appears the older brother's wife had a job. Did she support him? How did these guys pay for bomb making material, let alone living expenses? Did they have some off the books, cash only job, deal drugs, etc? I believe these guys did it. It just baffles me how they did it, given they both appear to be complete losers as characterized by Uncle Ruslan. The younger brother was also reportedly failing many of his college classes according to the NYTimes. He had a small $2500 scholarship from the city but that might cover books and one class. Who was paying for his school and living expenses? His out of country parents appear to be broke too. It's difficult to believe they acted alone, even though that appears to be true at this point. It's just very troubling that two people like this were able to do that much damage.

The parents live in Russia (Dagestan). They left sometime after the mom was arrested (but before she went on trial) for shop lifting at Lord & Taylor's.

I am pretty sure that the NRA isn't looking to give aliens 2nd amendment rights. The terrorism watch list is arbitrary, names are added, and removed from it, not based on a finding or such. My friend's father was denied boarding a plane because he had the same name as an Irish terrorist; he was a Chief of Police at the time. The NRA does not oppose keeping guns out of the hands of criminal;, they oppose trying to accomplishing gun control by keeping guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens.
