I've only watched the pilot, but I'm intrigued. The concept is that our lives are all interconnected more deeply than we thought, through our dreams. There are people who can walk out of their dreams an into those of others. TOPEKA seems to be way ahead of the curve and has been manipulating the dreams of the black guy who does quality control for the financial company. He may or may not have a long-term girlfriend that he's deeply in love with but has broken up with him. The girl who has the ability to spot fashion trends has the talent to manipulate dreams, but they have been latent up to this point. It seems that TOPEKA has covered up the fact that she has a child, but her dreams were revealing the truth. The Asian detective is just now uncovering TOPEKA. Through him we see that they have the ability to effectively change reality, or at least perceived reality. My guess is that they have done something to his mom to turn her from the fun-loving, carefree woman of his youth (and his dreams) to the catatonic vegetable that we saw.
