Fantasy Football, just what the heck is it? (1 Viewer)

I have never gotten into Fantasy Football, but would like to give it a shot. I believe I understand how it works somewhat. I played one season of Fantasy NBA about 4 years ago (I know, I know, probably totally different)

Could someone give me some insight into this?

Were can I join a league?

How much does it cost?

When is it too late to join?

How do points work?

Any help would be appreciated!

Leagues are everywhere- espn.com, cbssportsline.com, myfantasyleague.com, yahoo.com, antsports.com, rtsports.com. I'm sure there are tons more sites out there too.Leagues can be anywhere from free to thousands of dollars. Its not too late, some leagues don't draft until right up before kickoff. I'd say right now is a great time to find a league though. MOST leagues probably are drafting this weekend or next weekend if they haven't done so already.Points depend on the leagues. Some leagues do 4 pts for passing TDs, 6 pts for running and receiving TDs (some leagues do 6 pts for passing) Some leagues award 1 pt per 10 yards gained by the WRs, RBs, and TEs, while other leagues also give 1 pt for every reception made. Again, all of this varies. I am going to guess that a place like yahoo or antsports may be the better place for you to start if its your first year. Good luck!!! Its addictive as hell!!!

I sincerely thank you for this post! I'm going to do a search on leagues, since I'm a beginner I should probably join one of the least expensive leagues.... AM I right?

Another thing, I'm an avide football fan, and can qoute many player stats, but it seams that there's all sorts of resources out there for FF, which makes the game seam complicated.

Another question I have is... is FF as complicated as it seams, or is it just a matter of drafting a solid team? (Sorry if the question seams vague, again, a complete newb)

Yes, for your first year, I'd join one free league, and one small money league, unless you just have money burning holes in your pockets.

Im pretty new to the game as well, been playing two seasons, did my first dynasty last year. My advice would be just read up on some of the guides posted above, and frequent these forums. You can pick up ALOT of knowledge for both fantasy knowledge and just football knowledge in general. My game has grown EXPONENTIALLY in the short time I have been posting here, and I would also fully recommend becoming a subscriber if you join money leagues

It's like dungeons and dragons, only for middle aged men with pot-bellies who scored 3 td's in a game at Polk high once.

Oh, while you're here check out the "Free for All." It's about 10x more addicting than FF.
