Fantasy Football Practice squads. (1 Viewer)

Was wondering how many commissioners and owners use their practice squad in a similar way.

1. Around a 7 man, 8 man practice squad.

2. Only rookies and 2nd year players or players that have played in a minimum amount of games.

3. Practice squad players do not receive a contract until brought up to active roster and while on practice squad their salary does not count?

4. Opposing owners are allowed to bid or put a claim in for other teams practice squads players.

5. Owners are allowed to match or lose them to opposing teams, and if they match they have to bring them up to active roster.

I am looking for some feedback as far as how your league owners like or dislike this?

I posted a poll and owners say it is stupid and not fair to raid other teams rookies that have been stashed to develop.

What is the purpose of this?

Pros versus cons?

Below is the post by just one owner, who makes some valid points, looking for some owners or commissioners who can justify or counter his point of view.

(I do not like this.

We place so much emphasis on the importance of our draft picks and using them, but what is the sense in having these draft picks, if someone with a whole lot of cap space comes in and decides they want a hidden draft pick gem that I picked? Because we need to have draft pick integrity, we are encouraged to keep our draft picks, but why even have the draft picks if there is a chance I could lose any one of them.

Scenario....

I have player A who I drafted in the 4th round. Now, Team B, wants to take player A from my squad, and he has $90 in cap space, where as I have $4.00 (Some teams are at that amount now) Team B can now take this player who Is proven to be a solidified gem and can help my team, now I run the risk of losing him and say Team B does get him under this rule. Next year, Im trading all my draft picks because that is just more money in my pocket, and I can now go Draft/stud shopping from other teams with less cap room.

I think we are focusing to much on making sure people use their cap space right, and get involved in drafting, yet with this idea, your almost painting owners into a corner to try even harder to get out of drafting, and not spend money as to keep their players..

I just think there are alot of problems with this idea and should not even be considered.

Thats my opinion.)

Really could use some feedback.

Thanks

We use a 5man squad in a dynasty I'm in. I've attached some of the rules we use. It was decided that people shouldn't be able to hold players indefinately on the squad even once they've developed and so we put in a rule that if you want a player you have to give up your first. Obviously this just covers extreme cases where someone would keep someone on the taxi squad.
Taxi Squad: Each franchise has a taxi squad limit of 5 players. The purpose of the taxi squad is to allow franchise to develop young talent outside of their active roster.a.) Taxi squad players are not part of an active roster and cannot be used in a franchise starting lineup. Players can only be added to a franchise taxi squad from the free agent pool, they cannot be moved from the franchise active roster as a means of accomodating extra players.b.) To use a taxi squad player as part of a weekly lineup they must be added to an active roster, if there is no roster spots left then a player must be dropped to make room for the incoming taxi player.c.) Once a taxi player has been promoted they cannot be moved back to the taxi squad. This is a simple one way process and does not allow for teams to effectively utilise 30 roster spots by moving players back and forth.d.) Accquiring players from another franchise's taxi squad - To stop teams from collecting young players and keeping them on a taxi squad once they have developed it is possible to accquire a player from another taxi squad. The price to do so is the next year's 1st round pick. If a franchise does not have a 1st round pick then they cannot accquire a player from a taxi squad. Once a team has offered to give up their 1st round pick for a player the franchise that currently owns the player has the right to either add them to their full roster (and make cuts if necessary) or let the player go.
