fantasy football scoring question (1 Viewer)

I recently joined a league that has some unusual scoring

57 yards rushing = 5.5 points

94 yards receiving = 9.0 points

everything is rounded off to the lower value

when I asked why, I was told it reduced the chances of ties in the league

that does not make sense to me as it seems to increase the chances of ties

anyone have an pertinent info, stats, etc that I can confront the commissioner with to get this changed for next year ?

thanks for your replies

I'm probably going to lose this week because espn counts a safety scored by the opposing defense as points scored against my defense. How lame is that?

Somebody, shirt me.

ESPN is the worst. They actually count games missed as games played when calculating a player's scoring average.

It's that way in a lot of leagues. Team A throws an interception which team B returns for a TD. This counts as points scored against team A's defense even if they weren't on the field.

Read the rules completely before joining a league. I'm in a league now that has ridiculous rules and even though I like my team, I'm dropping it. If the commissioner doesn't post in depth bylaws (that's the case with me) and you find out later that the rules are crap, just walk away.

Their logic makes no sense. You reduce the chances of a tie by increasing the number of unique scores. By rounding down to the nearest 0.5, you have eliminated a lot of different possibilities and therefore increased the chances of a tie. If you allowed all the possible tenths with no rounding a person could score 110.0, 110.1, 110.2, 110.3, and 110.4. Under the logic by the league they have made all those scores as 110.0.

Their logic is wrong. I was in a league that did the same thing. In 3 years we had at least 1 tie every year, one year 3 ties. We switched to decimal scoring, with no rounding up or down and didn't have a tie the last 6 years I was in the league.

Neither of those scores should count against the D/ST, but LawFitz's scenario is more egregious because at no point was any player on Team A playing defense when the points were scored.

The answer is "yes" and "no".

It looks like they don't "round down" but award points per 5 yards instead of points per 10 yards or per yard.

So, it is less likely to have a tie than a scoring system that awards one point per 10 yards.

But, it is more likely to have a tie than a scoring system that awards 0.1 point per yard.

Hey, I once lost a game because Ben Roehlisberger threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown.I had the Steelers defense and the interception return went against me. My opponent had Ben Roethlisberger and lost no points on the play. This play was the difference. I lost by 3 points.

I do not play in leagues with team defense anymore. I either play in leagues with IDPs or offense-only.
