The part when he reads "Kansas city ganger staying at (name of local hotel - forgot the name), struck me as odd. Why would that be in the newspaper?
Ever been to Fargo? They put Ethel's bridge club results in the paper.
Pretty much this. Ever read a small town paper (although Fargo isnt that small)? They put some hilarious and useless stuff in those.
The Gerhardts are probably pretty well known in those parts I'd imagine, so not much of a stretch that its big news that a rival gang member may be in town.

I think it was a big headline because of who Milligan is. The headline might as well have read "There's a Colored Fella Here in Fargo". Kinda like when the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile comes to a small town.

I keep thinking back to a couple of quotes from older Lou in the first season. they way he alludes to this incident, he makes it sound truly evil...almost supernatural. we've seen some pretty creepy & violent stuff already...can't wait to see how it all goes down in Sioux Falls.

you can read some quotes here: https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Fargo_(TV_series). tons of good stuff there. obvious SPOILERS for those who haven't seen season 1 yet.

Lou Solverson: Had a case once, back in '79. I'd tell you the details, but it'd sound like I made 'em up. Madness, really.

Lorne Malvo: Bodies?

Lou Solverson: Yes, sir. One after another. Probably, if you stacked 'em high, could've climbed to the second floor. Now, I saw something that year I ain't ever seen, before or since. I'd call it animal. Except animals only kill for food. This was-- Sioux Falls. Ever been?

Greta Grimly: You were police once, Molly says.

Lou Solverson: State cop, Took a bullet in the hip on a traffic stop. Retired, full pension.

Greta Grimly: You ever do this before? Stand guard?

Lou Solverson: One other time, winter of 1979. Minus 4 degrees. Sat on a dark porch from dusk till dawn. Your stepmom was inside sleeping. Four years old.

Greta Grimly: Who did you think was coming?

Lou Solverson: It wasn't a question of who, more like what.

Greta Grimly: Did it come?

Lou Solverson: Not that night. But soon after.

I just went to the FX website and logged in with my Fios account info
I did the same with my DirecTV login info. In other words, if you have DirecTV, you can watch any previous episodes on the FX website.
Unfortunately Fox still in a pissing match with Dish over the whole commercial-skipping thing, so FXNow STILL not available.

All I know is that I'll be a bit disappointed if we never see the BM under the mattresss that young Linda Park found in her parents motel.

The newspaper headline was stupid. They had to use it as a plot device. Butcher needs to know where to call, so a magic newspaper appears!! Would never happen fo realz.

Dude, what are you talking about? Aliens leave #### like that all over the place all the time. Real life, yo.

you realize this show is part comedy/drama...right?
They clearly state this is a TRUE STORY so not sure why people find the headline to be wrong...

...

;)

The newspaper was a bit dumb as it could have been explained in a different manner....but a small gripe on an otherwise excellent season. I still think Freeman and Thorton made S1 better though.

I'm out of town and promised my wife I wouldn't watch Ep9 until I get back so we can watch together. I can do this...maybe.

I actually get excited on Monday morning because i know whats on tonight...i think i may need a talkin doctor :loco:

I refuse to watch it live on Mondays (ETA: and thus avoid the entire internet on Tuesdays) as each commercial break is too tense, so I have to be able to skip them.

Just do what I do, start watching it at 10:30ish

Due to the fact I get up at 5am I tend to hit the bed around 9pm Central time and thus shows like this that start at that time are always DVR'd..

Tuesdays I work from home so my Lunch time is a GREAT time to watch as no one else is home at that time to interrupt me :)

that was my Better Call Saul plan last season... I was awful at it :( was constantly tuning in after 10-15 minutes :bag:

P.S. I like the Snogger lunch plan! :) :hifive: :confetti:  :excited:

I have the double whammy of getting up early (not quite Snogger-early, but still) AND having gotten my wife hooked on the show. So we DVR and then have to find some time later in the week to watch together.

Kills me seeing this thread bumped during the week and not being able to check in until Thursday or later.

so you can wait 24 hours to watch it but not 30 minutes?

We get up at 5am everyday and usually wait until Tuesday, especially with the hour and a half episodes, but I think we'll be staying up to watch tonight. We're both so psyched for this show.

i read the thread after i watch it and then go back to watch anything i didnt pick up on from the comments in here ...lots of people see things i dont ...makes the show so much better when i see what i missed

Anybody else listening to the "Aw Jeez" podcast? It's a little bit local-radio corny sounding but they do a decent recap and usually interview someone either associated with the show or who lived in the area in the 70s (e.g., Val Johnson, the UFO sheriff's deputy).

That is how it has been working out so far this season

We usually watch it a day or 2 after. Waiting almost a week is gonna suck.

ETA: only because I'll have to avoid spoilers and hear about how great it was.

Direct tv cut off at 1:05, says there was 6 min left. Right as the cops pulled into the hotel parking lot after your lou went to go find Peggy and Ed

I don't get why the UFO's are such a problem.
My view is that you have an incredible season of television that has nothing to do with extra terrestrial activity at it's core. Sure you have mentions to UFOs throughout the season, and as many have noted...it was a common discussion in the late 70s. But once you have an actual appearance of a UFO, that has such an impact on the storyline of the entire show....to me, that puts a sour on it all.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and see what happens in the finale....but it just doesn't sit right with me.

To play devil's advocate....what benefit came out of the inclusion of the UFO in such a profound way (other than, that's the way they wanted to tell the story)?

Exactly. What if one of the last scenes in the Godfather was Moe Greene getting hit by a laser from a UFO instead of a bullet through the glasses? The whole thing detracts from what is otherwise an A+ show across the board.

Will re-watch, but probably my least favorite episode of the season. Still quite enjoyable but the ufo thing and the narration were a bit out there and it lacked the great dialogue we've seen from previous episodes. Hope it finishes strong.

Another thing that rubbed me wrong about that episode was the South Dakota cops being so ridiculous. I get that jurisdiction/turf stuff can be real, but to go the point of prioritizing escorting a Minn cop home over dealing with an actual homicide is cartoonish.

again...this show is a dark comedy / drama...i dont take much of what happens serious ...i just enjoy the ride

My take was that it was simply the almost-dying cop's "vision" as he was near death. Not that there was an actual UFO there.

Except Ed and Peggy saw it too. Peggy called it a flying saucer.
