too good to go has been a go to for me in italy. nothing better than getting €19 worth of pastries for €3.99. it works in the U.S. too and is a hidden gem.
Thanks. How does it work?
Have it here in Germny as well. Mostly bakeries but some other places will sell their stuff at the end of the day at a pretty steep discount. We have been hitting up a local bakery about once a week, I think 3,39 eu for about 15 bucks worth. Just purchase with a cc (no Amex) and pick up during the given window

@Joe Bryant like posted above, it basically is an app to save food waste. mostly bakeries, bagel shops, pizzerias. they sell their end of day stuff at deep discounts via the app. you pay/reserve the night before usually and pick up the next day during a window. i can’t believe the stuff we get. prolly why i've gained 5 pounds.

I installed this to see if it was any different than another similar app I had previously tried. W/r/t the other app (whose name I can't recall), I was never able to actually buy anything. All of the offerings had been claimed by the time I opened the app.

Imagine my surprise when there was actually a bag left at Whole Foods when I opened it (an hour or so ago). Pickup was scheduled as 8-9 pm and I'd first passed on it as I intended to have an adult beverage and watch the Pens (likely lose another Metro conference game). However, I figured I'd see how this worked, went back on and it was still there. I'm not sure what will be in the bag (it's the prepared foods one, not the bakery one :crying: ), but $9.99 (plus tax) for what purports to be $30 worth of food piqued my interest.

Will report back ...

I believe I heard about it or something similar on this podcast about why it's hard to reduce restaurant waste:

From Trash to Treasure: Why's It So Hard to Save Restaurant Leftovers From the Dumpster?. https://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirec...phone.fm/VMP2719897790.mp3?updated=1727814671 . Every day, at the end of service, restaurants throw away tons of entirely edible food: heaps of past...

Most of the places in the apps tend to be bread-based, bakeries and pizzarias IIRC

you are correct from what i’ve seen…….but whole foods was just added and circle k too, so maybe there are some alternate items. one thing i have also used is the bottom center button called delivery. they will ship you some real stuff they are trying to ditch. i found real lay’s chips in italy, like 40 of the snack size bags for €20. i also found reese’s, which are not easy to find in italy.

We have an Asian buffet around the corner that usually offers 2x a day (once after lunch and dinner) that we might try out. Also have a bulk food place that sells beans, grains, dry baking supplies, cereals, legumes...I think you have to bring your own container. Just saw a butcher added recently as well.

Added favorites near my folks place in CA, mostly Peet's, Wholefoods, a local donut shop

asian barely exists in my area. we have a couple of sushi/chinese joints, but they are not like the states. no other ethnic around. i’m dying for a bagel offer, lord knows philadelphia is a plenty here, but nothing to schmear it on :(

Munich has great ethnic restaurants, only thing I couldn't find was decent Mexican. Found a few passable places but have been learning how to make my own stuff. Finally found a specialty store that has decent chorizo and tortillas

Just installed this app. Whole Foods isn't an option at least right now. Some pretty good deals on bagels and donuts. And some pizza options too.

would love to know what you get….
I got ... nothing. :(

Whole Foods (Prepared Foods Bag) didn't have enough surplus food available and therefore had to cancel your order.

They did at least refund my credit card charge, so there's that. (I wonder, is there a microfinance "float" in there somewhere? Charge the card for a few hours knowing there are no bags available, get the infintesimal interest and then return the money??? Probably not.)

I'll try again at some point and if successful, will let you know.

Way in advance, thankfully.

only the delivery option really……but in italy they have supermarkets on the app and i’ve heard of some packages with fruits and veggies.

None of these are new, but Hoopla and Libby are both fantastic. Register your local library card and get access to tons of digital books, audiobooks, digital versions of magazine subscriptions (love Cooks Illustrated), borrow movies, etc. I drive around a lot for work and I can borrow all sorts of audiobooks for free.

For collecting recipes, I love Paprika 3. Can pretty easily download recipes from all over the internet, categorize/group them, modify them, easily change batch sizes, create your own recipes, create your grocery lists easily for ingredients, etc.

[Hijack]What is €3.99? In US it's 3 dollars and 99 cents. How do you say that in Euros? 3 Euros and 99...what?[/hijack]

depends on the country and language.
tre e novantanove centesimi in italian.
Thanks. So basically it's the same: "cents", in English.

Drei neun und neunzig here, oder Drei euro neun und ņeunzig, or even Drei euro neun und neunzig cent

Flighty, one of the best flight-tracking apps available. Paid the lifetime price, and it's been a godsend on numerous trips.
How is it different/better than other flight tracking apps?
I get updates about my flight faster than the airlines.
Flightaware website is a very reliable free source fyi
I've used Flightaware, and while it's an excellent service, it doesn't provide as much information in a way that's convenient to me and the people in my life compared to Flighty.

I haven't tried their app but their website not all the information is easily findable although any of the information you need you can get such as where's your current plane coming in, etc etc. But it does take some digging. Once you get used to it though, it's pretty convenient

Following.

Not new by any means but I love the TV Time app. Helps you keep track of all the series you are watching.
I use this, plus JustWatch for movies - add movies to my list, when I have some time to watch I see what's free on my services.

I picked up Paprika 3 on Black Friday and have been really liking it. I like that you can turn your screen sideways and have separate scroll zones for ingredients and instructions. Good Christmas note: Land O Lakes has the best Christmas cookies and are importable.

I'll ask here...

I loved Maprika. It's an app where you can scan in a map or sketch and drop GPS anchors on it, then show yourself on that map. It's awesome for mountain bike trails, where a clean line on white paper is the best way to see the trails, particularly if they're changed for a specific race. It seems to have been abandoned for Apple, and I haven't been able to find a replacement. I have/tried Strava, MTB Project, Alltrails, Trialforks, MapChart, Komoot... none of them are quite right, and Maprika was perfect.

TV Time also added movies some time back. Honestly I'm not a heavy movie watcher so I don't really use that part of the app.

I know there a million of them out there, but any recommendations for a workout and/or walking app(s). New Year coming and I need to get motivated and moving.

I've tried every day since installing the app and there has not been a bag available since day 1. I've tried various times of the day (extremely early to extremely late (hoping to catch the next day)) and no luck.

A more cynical person would think that they falsely made a bag available simply to get my credit card info. ;)

Not one, but two prepared food bags available from whole foods, so I reserved one for pickup Friday 8pm.

Fingers crossed.

I received an email at 5:30 (i.e., 2 1/2 hours prior to when I was to pick up): The store has canceled your order

I'm out. Deleting the app as there appears to be no certainty that they will ever deliver on it.

Myfitnesspal is outstanding in my opinion.

Edit to add - it's for diet and tracking fitness and walking. Doesn't do workout routines I know of but as you said, there are a zillion routines out there for free.

By far, tracking diet and fitness is the key in my opinion.
