So, I have come to the conclusion that Nicolas Cage pretty much owns Saturday afternoon cable TV. Between TNT, TBS, AMC, Spike, etc., it is nothing to find as many as three Nicolas Cage movies on at the same time. Back when I was running wild and free, there was nothing like a Nicolas Cage movie to suck me in on a Saturday afternoon, while crashed out on the couch after a long Friday night.

In that spirit, I have created this poll to see what the ultimate Saturday afternoon Nicolas Cage cable TV movie is. For me, Gone in 60 Seconds squeaks out a victory over The Rock. Nicolas Cage is Nicolas Cage and is always fantastic, so you have to look at his suppporting cast. That being said, the Shelby Mustang GT Fastback ekes it out over Sean Connery.

What are your thoughts?

If The Rock is an option in any circumstance, it's a safe bet that I'm picking The Rock. That being said, Snake Eyes is a sleeper here. You've got nearly the entire movie taking place in a casino which is cool, the equivalent of Hurricane Sandy bearing down on them, Cage playing a character that would be like if real life Nicolas Cage was a dirty cop (complete with insane overacting and a sleaziness that you just can't teach), a ridiculously unintentionally comedic ending, and Gary Sinise! It's almost too much.

Yep, always liked Snake Eyes, too. Probably my #3.

Can't go wrong with any of these 3:

Con Air
The Rock
National Treasure

But went with National Treasure myself.

I want to take his face...........off
That's only legitimate contender to Con Air in this, imo.

These early results are really shocking. This should be Con Air vs. Face/Off, um, face off, yet 35% are clocking in with National Treasure?

National Treasure was the movie that officially marked the end of the Nic Cage era of making bad movies that you still liked more than you ought to. At that point, he was just making bad movies.

Completely agree. I was waiting to see more results before posting, but I am shocked that Face/Off is being shut out.

Face off is good but is one of those movies that you really need to watch from the beginning to "catch on"

Con Air, The Rock and National Treasure can be joined in progress and still enjoy the ride :drive:

Fair point.

Though, I must say explaining the Face/Off to someone that just walked into the room is quite fun and simple.

Actually, Nic Cage movies have the best titles that make for very easy explanation.

"See, it's a bunch of cons....in the air."

"Travolta and Cage take each others' face...off"

"They look for National Treasure"

"They are raising this kid named Arizona"

Love National Treasure, can't believe all the hate in here. How can you love/hate Nicolas Cage, and not love/hate National Treasure?

A notable omission from the pole?

Con Air and The Rock are classics. Hard to pick between them.

"What do you say we quit the chit chat.... A HOLE! :hot: "

I think Face/Off is the most rewatchable, because there's so many ways you can watch it. You can just surface-watch the plot. Or you can watch it for the hammy acting that both Travolta and Cage bring to the table. Or, you can choose to watch it as Travolta and Cage doing over-the-top-hammy impersonations of each other's over-the-top-hammy acting, and fully enjoy the craziness.
I hated that movie, mainly because I hate John Woo. Get rid of all the unnecessary slow mo shots and that movie is probably 20 minutes long.

I guess the next poll should be worst film he has ever done and the line is very long in the list of these beauties.

Love me some Con Air. The performance of Malkovich, Rhames, Buscemi, Trejo, Chapelle, Billy Bedlam, Swamp Thing, and the lot (and all of their great lines) steal the show to the point where Cage playing his character (and awful accent) straight up is almost an afterthought. Throw in the two bickering feds (Cusack and the Star Trek guy) and Cage is about the 10th best performance.

It is a never miss when channel surfing.

Con Air for me, I love the ending where they crash the plane on to the Vegas Strip and then Malkovich rides off on a fire truck! So many great cheesey one liners in the movie!

agreed although I do like gone in 60 secs over con air.

Mostly though I would probably flip back and forth between most of them watching the better parts of each
