Some states have great songs, others not so much.

What's the best song for each state? Bonus points if the title has the state in the title, but it's not required - so long as the song is obviously about a specific state.

Just to get started:

Lynyrd Skynrd — Sweet Home Alabama

Bruce Springsteen — Mary Queen of Arkansas

The Beach Boys — California Girls

John Denver - Rocky Mountain High

Gladys Knight and the Pips — Midnight Train to Georgia

Elvis Presley — Blue Hawaii

B-52s — Private Idaho

Kansas - Dust in the Wind

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Especially in Michigan

Bruce Springsteen — Nebraska

Elvis — Viva Las Vegas

Frank Sinatra - New York, New York

James Taylor — Carolina in My Mind

Modest Mouse — Ohio

Arrested Development - Tennessee

John Denver - Take Me Home, Country Roads

That's actually the first song that came to my head, but it could be a generational/temperamental/punk rock thing.

I get what you're saying, though.

eta* Four dead in O-hi-o

I was actually going to post this exact topic. I had started thinking about it while on a road trip last month.

Had a lot of similar ones, though these are different:

New York State of Mind - Billy Joel

Devil Went Down to Georgia - Charlie Daniels

In addition:

Mississippi Queen - Mountain

Pennsylvania - Bloodhound Gang (not really that good, but not many songs with PA in the title. If we are being liberal, I would go with Allentown.by Billy Joel.)

Colorado needs to be Rocky Mountain High by John Denver.

County Road was a good suggestion but a lot of other states are mentioned in that song as well.

*Alabama - Sweet Home Alabama

*Alaska - North to Alaska

*California - California Girls

Delaware - Delaware Slide

Florida - Orange Blossom Special

*Georgia - Georgia on my Mind

Hawaii - Honaloochie Boogie

Kansas - The Devil Came From Kansas

*Kentucky - Coal Miner's Daughter ... Sorry Bill Monroe, I flipped a coin and you lost

Minnesota - Girl from the North Country

**Mississippi - Crossroads

Missouri - Missouri

Montana - Montana

*New York - Rhapsody in Blue ... Sorry Lou Reed and Mooney Suzuki

*Oklahoma - Okie from Muskogee

*Texas - San Antonio Rose ... Still the King. Honorable Mention

* denotes quintessential

** generally speaking Eric Clapton is an overrated sacred cow, but he had his quintessential moments. Hope to change my mind on this pick.

Moonlight in Vermont. You guys prefer the Rosemary Clooney recording or the Stan Getz tenor sax version interpretation?

I just shot myself thirty seconds into the Sinatra/Fitzgerald version and five seconds into the Getz version. What does Clooney get me?

R Dean Taylor - Indiana Wants Me

Johnny Horton - North to Alaska

Please do not try to tag any of the RHCP musical turds on California.

And if I lived in Michigan I would move to Ohio before I'd let kid rock represent me in any fashion.

The only thing I can think of for CT is the Doors:

"blood in the streets of the town of New Haven..."

By the time I get to Arizona - PE

Hannah Montana - Migos

New Mexico's No Breeze - Iron & Wine

Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man - Conway Twitty/Loretta Lynn
