I realize Favre has never said anything remotely resembling "trade me" or "I want out of GB". I know he has stated "I want to retire as a Packer", and "I will never wear another jersey besides the Green and Gold". What else can he possibly say? The post-football marketability of #4 is tied to his GB career. If he damages that, he will be burning $$. I think he and Bus Cook are smart enough to know how damaging it would be to his Legend status and all the fame and fortune that go with it.
In my opinion he has been trying for years to get the GB front office to be the bad guy and release him or trade him, with no success. He is now at the end of his rope. At 38 he has 1 or 2 years left to see if he can make a final run for a title. My guess is he had a private conversation with Thompson in March where he laid it out for him: I want to play for another team, but I can't risk making that desire public so I need you to be the bad guy and release me or trade me. TT obviously declined and Favre retired, hoping this would force the issue. Since then he has made a few subtle innuendos and his agent has been less subtle about his desire to continue playing.
Whatever his detractors say he can still play, as evidenced last year. And, more importantly, he believes he can still play at a very high level. He thinks he can be a SB winning QB, just not on this team.
PS. Obligatory "Another Favre thread
