Favre leaning towards retiring (1 Viewer)

This just hurts there team in the long run becuase it gives them a worse draft pick....absolutely no chance....I repeat....absolutely no chance at a wildcard....and nobody gets to see what Aaron Rodgers can do.
Negative. Aaron might not be ready for the new system and may not be ready for the NFL. You dont know, and I dont either. If Favre stays next year it could also help Aaron grow in the system that would be then two years old. Practices allow the coaches more than you think or at least are letting on.Favre hurting the Packers = :lmao: :lmao:

Considering the system is similiar to the last one other than terminology....that is irrelevant.I know what coaches do in practice...b/c I am "involved" in football. Yes I know it helps in development. But practice can only simulate gameplay. Only until you throw the kid in the water, will you know if he can swim or not. Plus he needs game experience to develop....look at how much better Alex Smith is this season vs last season. The reason he is hurting the Packers is because they are such a young team and to have an old QB...that only hinders Rodgers' development with the rest of his younger counter-parts. (He needs to develop chemistry with Greg Jennings for example. Favre is doing that with Jennings right now, but then when he retires....Jennings will have to do it all over again with Rodgers.) Meaning that the Packers are not ready for the postseason anytime soon because they have so many young players that need to develop. Why not allow the Qb to develop with game experience along with him? Oh yeh because Brett Favre runs that entire organization. This is not only coming from a Bears fan, but a fellow Wisconsin resident.

As a long time lurker this is one of the dumbest things I have ever read here. :loco:
Using the word "dumbest" in your vocabulary....shows the intelligence level that you represent. The "dumbest" thing is having a player(brett favre) run an entire football organization instead of the coaches. Then every offseason, the packer faithful hold their breath to see if he is coming back. Even if it means hurting the organization by not letting them know his decision, just for the spotlight to be on him at his home down in Mississippi every offseason.

Are you really this stupid? Favre has not held the team hostage each offseason for the past 3 years. Favre has not been running the organization the last 3 seasons. Favre has not been looking to be in the spotlight for the last 3 seasons while he was in Mississippi. Favre has not hurt the organization and they reported today that McCarthy has been talking to Favre about returning next season.Favre is making the haters look bad and I'm loving it.

I said 3 years or so.So he didn't decide to retire...and then The GM and coach talked him out of it and he didn't give the organization a definite answer for awhile in the offseason? He didn't hold the organization hostage after his father died and wife had breast cancer by not making a decision early in the offseason a few years back?Answer those two ?'s

I'm done with you. You're pathetic for trying to bring these two things up for a reason that you think Favre held the Packers hostage. How did he hold the team hostage after what he went through after the 2004 season? By the way....you may want to research the game Favre had on MNF after his father died.Keep hating.

Against the Raiders I know the game....come on it was the Raiders.I am just stating that he didn't make a decision right away that season either....this past season is when it was really bad by him.But go ahead everyone hate.I have no idea what Im talking about b/c I live in the state.

Negative. Aaron might not be ready for the new system and may not be ready for the NFL. You dont know, and I dont either. If Favre stays next year it could also help Aaron grow in the system that would be then two years old. I guess Phillip Rivers didn't learn anything in the two years he watched Drew Brees from the sidelines. He obviously didn't gain anything from those two years because he has looked so clueless this season. :loco:

I love to bash Favre every chance I get (it brings me great pleasure). But Favre gets wrongly critized for being an attention whore. I am sure Mortensen went to Favre to do an interview, not the other way around.

More times than not, people put a microphone in front of Favre's face and ask him questions. For the most part, Favre is just answering questions.

As a Viking fan though, I hope he doesn't retire. I think he tilts the scales in favor of the Vikings when he is on the field.

:confused:sitting on the bench really killed Philip Rivers. the Chargers should probably just cut him.and playing right away has done wonders for JP Losman. The only young player on offense that Rodgers needs to develop chemistry with is Jennings. i don't get it. he doesn't need his linemen to run in to pass patterns. if Jennings play this season is any indicator it's not going to take him 2-3 years to learn how to play with Rodgers.why does everyone think Favre is some selfish ego-maniac? what has he done in his 15 years to make people think that? it's ignorant statements like "Why not allow the Qb to develop with game experience along with him? Oh yeh because Brett Favre runs that entire organization." that ruin a person's credibility.

Hasn't Favre won 3 out of his last 4 at the Humpty Dome?

I'll believe it when I see it with Favre. If true - tough to see him go out after such a lousy year.
 Favre: 203-352 2295yards 13td 7int 82l 81.3ratingI am not going to sit here and say these are phenominal, but to be hoenst, these are solid stats for a guy who gets CREAMED about throwing picks. I thought Favre looked real good yesterday. If your talking about the "team" then I guess so, they look better then I thought they would to be honest.I just disagree with the posters comment thats all.

I'll be the first to say that Favre has earned the right to decide when he wants to stop playing in the NFL. He plays hurt and he's consistent. (Even when he's bad, he's consistently bad)
And I'll also be the first to say the Packers losing these past few seasons rests on Favre's shoulders as much as anyones.
they were 4-12 last season.before that they hadn't had a losing season in his career with GB. the team was basically allowed to deteriorate by Sherman because he had no clue what he was doing. Favre won with such feared WR tandems as Corey Bradford and Bill Schroeder.. they were horrible last year.. but they were also starting Andrae Thurman and Jamal Jones at WR and trotting out 6th stringer Samkon Gado. what'd you want him to do?
sure Mike Sherman made some pretty rough personnel moves that probably set the Packers back an entire decade. But part of Sherman's reign came from the Packers deciding whether Favre could accept Sherman or not. If Favre said he couldn't handle Sherman, then he would have never been head coach. Part of the problem with keeping Sherman and his poor personnel moves so long as the Packers trying to not rock the boat too much for Favre.
i think you underestimate the damage Sherman did. seriously. people love to say that Favre has held the franchise hostage and that he's some controlling ego-maniac. but if that were the case why didn't he dump Sherman?? he could see the deteriorating talent, he realized Bevell was a terrible coach, that Sherman wasn't providing the coaching he wants/needs. he left that decision to Harlan and the board. as any player should. he let the team be run by "ownership" (in this case, since there's no team owner)
He didn't want to do the work in the offseason, looks like he didn't want to do the work period.
:confused:you might want to look back at Favre's life the past few years... and his laundry list of injuries. those injuries have prevented him from doing a lot of things he normally should have done. he could probably have been better conditioned but i don't see how that has hurt him. if anything he's not had great timing because of not throwing the ball as much but he's nursed some wicked arm/elbow/hand injuries in the past few years.Favre's "decline" (one bad year) was largely the result of having NOBODY to throw the ball to. people love to talk about how the Patriots plug and play with "bad" receivers. it's just proof of how great Brady is... but when Favre is playing with Arena leaguers and street free agents who get picked up on Tuesday then start on Sunday, nothing is said unless he throws 3 picks. then all the talk is of how he's washed up and should retire.throw ANY QB out there with a makeshift line (Whitticker, Klemm, etc.) a 6th string RB, 6th and 7th string WRs, and a 4th string TE as your starters and tell me that they're not going to look bad.
Under Holmgren, Favre was kept in check. He took smart risks. After Holmgren, Favre just did whatever the hell he wanted and no one could oppose him and last.
agree here.again, this goes back to the "favre is an egomaniac" point. he WANTS to be coached. he's the son of a coach. he wants someone to joust with him and challenge him. Rhodes and Sherman were both doormats with no clue how to coach him. McCarthy saw that and has done a great job coaching him again.
Favre could have put in some heavy offseason work. He could have worked harder to lobby for better and more sound free agents to join the Packers. He could have helped pick a head coach that would be good for the Packers, not just Favre. He could have accepted some of the discipline needed to know when to take smart risks on the field. What Favre did not do was learn from Marino. Marino spent a long time not doing the work and riding on pure talent. And when Marino got old, the lack of work caught up with him. Favre will end his career on a losing team because Favre helped to make it a losing team. No sympathy from me.
Favre has done NOTHING to "help" make this a losing team. that's just ridiculous. really.. that's a pretty poorly thought out opinion. sorry.. my :2cents:

I'll believe it when I see it with Favre. If true - tough to see him go out after such a lousy year.
 Favre: 203-352 2295yards 13td 7int 82l 81.3rating

I am not going to sit here and say these are phenominal, but to be hoenst, these are solid stats for a guy who gets CREAMED about throwing picks. I thought Favre looked real good yesterday.

If your talking about the "team" then I guess so, they look better then I thought they would to be honest.

I just disagree with the posters comment thats all.
:lmao: :lmao: Might want to re-read WHEN that post was made.

He was saying after last seasons disheartening year it would be too bad if he left.

This is what you get when people bump Old threads.

Like I said, not your fault. When people feel they need to go back and bump threads older than :tumbleweed: then things like this are bound to happen.
