Favre / P Manning bashing (1 Viewer)

In light of the most recent Favre thread and Favre bashers and defenders, most of which are the same people who bash Peyton Manning whenever possible, I thought it would be interesting to see who gets slammed the most. I probably should have made this a poll.

My vote is for Favre now that Colin has joined forces with the Favre haters. Bashing Favre for today is pathetic.

I do think Favre is a drama queen, but until(if) Manning wins a SB he will always be bashed.

:bye: My vote is that Manning gets bashed more, but much of it is unwarranted/unjustified. Subtract that out of the equation and Favre is the likely winner.

I vote for hating the whole Manning family. That includes the brother, mother, family dog, and grandmother.

When I hear them being called: The First Family of Football

I want to puke.

As for the Manning Bowl: WHO CARES! I may not watch that game out of protest.

Manning is paid like a champion, is treated like a champion and acts like a champion. If he ever actually becomes a champion, everything will be fine.

Say whatever else you want about Favre (and there's plenty to say) but he's been a champion ALONG with the records and the MVPs and so forth.

I don't hate the Mannings. But is it "bashing" to say that when push comes to shove...Peyton always seems to get shoved? They lose in Miami, they lose at home, they lose to the Steelers, the lose in New England. Many of those playoff games were close, but Peyton couldn't do enough to get them over the top.

Against Pittsburgh, they settled for a long field goal attempt when they had second-and eight. Why take two deep shots instead of trying to get eight yards? We all know Peyton calls the plays at the line.

The truth is not "bashing" no matter how unflattering it is. Peyton Manning is the best QB in professional football today. The question is, do Indy fans want a lot of stats or do they want a title? If it's the latter, Peyton will get criticism unitl he delivers one.

:goodposting: Favre gets more criticism. A lot of it is warranted.Manning is the best quarterback in the league and doesn't deserve all the flak he gets.

Ironic, since taking risks is one of the qualities that Favre is often lauded for.....

:goodposting: , except for calling Manning the best QB. That title belongs to Tom Brady until further notice.

I really don't see how someone could pose an argument against this. It's often debated, but I find it silly. Do people really think Manning torching Houston for five TD's in the regular season makes him better than Brady? It's a riot.

Both Favre and Manning have earned the right to not be bashed as often as they are. I have zero problem with questioning their abilities (Favre for his current abilities, and Manning for his ability to be a "winner"), but to simply show distaste for either blindly is just wrong. Both can be debated for their merits/shortcomings, this is not "bashing" or "hating" IMHO. Just make sure you show some evidence prior to stating ill feelings toward either.

I respect both QBs for their immense talent for the game. Personally I don't think either player deserves to be bashed for what they do on the field (unless they happen to have a particularly crappy game... or season).

Off the field is a different story though. Manning blaming the Steelers game on the OLine was ludicrous, as was his public verbal jousts with his kicker. Favre sucking up every ounce of attention he can scramble for in the offseason by talking about other player's contracts and provoking all this retirement talk whenever he spots a microphone is simply sad.

I wish they were both as great on the sidelines and in the pressrooms as they are between the hashmarks.

And if you would listen to anyone that covers the NFL they would tell you that is completely false. This is the type of comment that makes the Favre haters look clueless like they did in the Favre press conference thread this morning.

Yeah, you're right. Favre has never talked about another player's contract or discussed his retirement. Talk about clueless. Go back to holding up Favre's poster with one hand.

You missed your clueless comment...."sucking up every ounce of attention he can scramble for". That is a pathetic comment that isn't true.

Normally I do, but I just knew he was going to take my balanced commentary and try and turn it into a one-sided attack on Favre. Fla\/\/ed needs to give his other hand a shot before that one gets blisters on it.Sorry that you had to see it. My morbid sense of curiousity got the best of me. He does that to me WAY too frequently. I just have to remember the old internet axiom "don't feed the trolls."

I hope you two get a room so you can cry about Favre being an attention whore and then having me call you out for those pathetic comments.

OK I'll bite. I've been looking for awhile now to find out what was said in the press conference (or was there one). Search functions for Favre or press conference only leads me to this thread or a post from this morning with 2 posts and no info. Heard on sirius radio the press conference was an hour late and counting, and that it must be big news for them to be trying to work things out for that long................went into a meeting..................came back out and drove for 2 1/2 hours listening to sirius and never heard a word. I'm home now, and would like to know ...........um................

WHAT HAPPENED??????

PFT and ESPN briefly tried to break a story this morning that Favre had scheduled a press conference today. They speculated the press conference was for Favre to announce his retirement. Some lame station in Minneapolis was the source. However, the Packer fans here knew that Favre always holds a press conference on Wednesdays during the season and this has been going on for years. That info was posted here but many ignored it.So the Favre haters came out in force and it didn't take long for PFT to retrack their story and the Favre haters were :own3d:The thread was locked after about 4 pages.

Thanks Fla\/\/ed, was beginning to think I really missed something, but couldn't figure out why no one was actually talking about "what" I missed.

Both of them have to be willing to take the bashings that they are getting, they both deserve them.

Manning always falls short of getting it done …. always. And he has been given the opportunity to get it done (more then a few times).

Favre is falling from good graces now that his own vanity and short sightedness have started to shine a light on his declining performance and they are interfering with the teams’ long term goals and needs. We are watching a once great fighter lose a step on the battlefield (along with a weakening army) and simply put, it is not pretty.

I think Fla\/\/ed loves Brett Favre way more than anyone else could possibly hate the man.

Anyway, I think Favre probably gets criticized more, but he generally deserves the criticism he gets. He makes Aaron Brooks-type mistakes, but still gets a free pass from a lot of people because of what he's done in the past. People who know what's going on realize this, and I think there is a tendency to pile onto Favre just to try to balance things out and set the record straight.

By the way, if I were to point out that Favre is 22 interceptions short of the all time record, would that be considered "Favre bashing" (and would I be dubbed a "hater"), or would that just be pointing out a fact?

That's a fair point. I think Manning is the more talented QB, but if I'm the owner of a playoff team and I need one QB to get me the win...there's no question I go with Brady. Even Roethlisberger would be a better choice than Peyton. I don't consider him a better QB than Manning, though.
