Favre retirement comment on PFT.com today (1 Viewer)

On profootballtalk.com they had a one liner yesterday talking about how long it may or may not take Favre to decide on retirement this year (PFT is always kind of snide in reference to Favre) and then go onto say it's info that the Packers could use given that there is a free agent QB available who runs the same type of offense.

Who is the free agent QB they are referring to??

I think they said that the Packers were all set to have Favre come back, but then the commissioner gave them a call and said it would be nice if they had a minority QB so they are now asking Favre to retire and will sign Garcia.

Garcia to the Packers is a good move if Favre retires and they make it an open competition for the QB postition. I'd be interested to see if Rodgers could beat out Garcia.

Obviously Garcia. Not really a bad idea if Favre retires.
Ugh please. They are the same age. I dont care what Garcia did in 2006, i dont want another end-of-his-career-going-nowhere QB for a team that is clearly rebuilding. I'd MUCH MUCH rather develop a young QB if we cant keep Favre. Getting another old guy makes NO sense at all. We have a team full of young players, really young by NFL standards. You can say all you want 'Rodgers didnt look good, yadda yadda yadda" but I have to think 1/2 of a game doenst a career make. Anyone remember 2005 Brad Johnson? Sure looked good that year, didnt he? How did 2006 Brad do? Yup, we need that right?

Talking about life after Favre with Garcia under centre in Green Bay makes me sick to my pants.

With that said, it would make sense as you know Rodgers would get the tap mid season to replace Garcia and take over the gig.

All this talk about what Rodgers can and cannot do is hilarious by the way. What are we all basing this on? He's had zero meaningful playing time with starters and starter prep. I know people are down on the guy but I think crazier things have happened than a 1st round draft pick growing into the job and improving with playing time. JP Losman recently seemed to go that way.

Very doubtful that Rodgers could beat out Garcia. I'm not sure Rodgers could beat out Ty Detmer. :D
Yes, but could he beat out Koy Detmer?Seriously, I'd hate to see Garcia leave Philly. But, I think the Packers would be better served to look at a younger option. They'd be better off going with Rodgers - if healthy - and seeing what he could do for a year.

Rodgers barely has more playing experience than Ingle Martin.

I would imagine the Packers would want a QB competition to see which QB wins. Otherwise, I don't see the point in having two very talented young backups.

I don't think Rodgers could beat out JERRY GARCIA :o

based on what???

Just merely making a joke based on that Rodgers hasn't really had an opportunity to play with Favre still there and when he did get to play suffered a season-ending injury. Green Bay is gonna be a tough town to succeed in after Favre implanting his legacy, so whoever comes in sure has a tough road ahead. I'd like to see every young QB succeed in the nfl but that's just not the case. I still don't think that Rodgers could beat out Jeff Garcia were he to come to GB simply on the experience and success Jeff has had as an nfl starting QB. Jerry Garcia's name just came outta the blue in reference to try and make light of what tasks Rodgers might have to take over the reigns against competition. It's not that I don't think Rodgers has talent, obvious he does or he wouldn't be in the nfl. It's just my opinion that I don't think he has stud QB qualities and add the fact of having to follow Favre. I wish him the best and I hope he proves me wrong in becoming a good nfl QB.

wasn't there a rumor posted on this site recently about Moss going to GB? Moss and Garcia back together again... :lmao:

And with Garcia, they might be getting a twofer.
