Favre to the Bucs? (1 Viewer)

Griese makes the most sense to be included in a trade. If the report is true I'm not too happy about giving up a 3rd rounder for him. :blackdot: I think Tampa is doing GB a huge favor by giving them an option besides rostering or cutting him. I'm not buying into the 'bidding war" with the Jets, because I doubt Favre would agree to play for a non SB contender.

Here's what I'm hearing about the potential Favre deal tonight:

• I want to stress that I wouldn't bet my mortgage on this but it is what I've heard reliably. I hear the Jets are offering a solid third-round draft choice that could rise to a first-round draft choice depending on the team's performance and how well Favre plays.

• I'm told the Bucs positively would not make an offer that lofty. The Packers have suggested a couple of different scenarios involving draft choices with Tampa Bay but I hear that the Packers are not close to doing anything tonight.

• My gut feeling? Brett Favre Held Hostage will reach Thursday or perhaps longer. Tampa Bay general manager Bruce Allen drives a very hard bargain, and I wouldn't expect the Packers to be able to do business easily with him. I don't know if Favre or agent Bus Cook has told Green Bay where he prefers to play, but if his choice is Tampa Bay, this could take a while, especially if the Packers are willing to send him to a team they play in Week 4.

When is the trade deadline?

Packers want Griese, possible second-round pick

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fl. -- We're now starting to get an idea of what the Packers want in terms of compensation for Brett Favre.

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio is reporting the New York Jets have offered a fourth-round pick in 2009 that has the potential to turn into a second-round choice if certain performance standards are met and the team.

Paolantonio also reports the Packers have told Bucs general manager Bruce Allen that Green Bay would accept a third-round pick in 2009 that could turn into a second-round pick along with reserve quarterback Brian Griese.

Including Griese as part of the package could be a key because the Packers want a veteran presence to go with Aaron Rodgers and Brian Brohm. Griese is expendable because Tampa Bay also has Jeff Garcia, Chris Simms, Luke McCown and Josh Johnson on the roster. Garcia and Simms also could be candidates for trades if the Bucs land Favre.

Tampa isn't going to give as high of a conditional pick as the Jets, because we were already a playoff team. Jets would be a long shot to make the playoffs even if it was a 30 yo Brett Favre they were trading for.

Favre isn't going to want to go to the Jets, and Tampa knows that. We already have a pro bowl QB, so we don't need to do anything.

I like the way the Packers are playing this.
Now that it's out in the open pretty clearly that they don't want Favre back, they're essentially in a can't lose situation. They have two teams outside their division bidding for him, and if Favre tries to be the skunk at the garden party by re-re-re-retiring in the middle of all of this, he's going to come out of this looking awful, and the team will look sympathetic.

Tampa isn't going to give as high of a conditional pick as the Jets,
I agree with your premise, but that makes me wonder what is holding a trade to the Jets then. After all, unlike the Bucs they're not even in the same conference and don't play the Packers this year. Does Favre need to restructure his contract for the Jets to afford him, or is it that Griese is just too important for the Packers to get back in trade for the Packers to ignore?

Anyone else surprised that Balt hasn't come up in the discussion here?
Yes and No. Yes, I'm surprised because if I was running the show in BAL I'd sure be trying to see what the asking price is at minimum. Then again, it's BAL and they just have no luck when it comes to QB's in evaluating talent or in their decision making process when it concerns QB's. So, the answer is YES and NO.

You'd think that GB would take one round later of a draft pick from the Jets, rather than trading him to TB. Granted, TB is not in their division, but they very well could see them a 2nd time in the playoffs. Dunno about you, but it seems to logical to me to just ship him to J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!

Yes. And Kansas City too.
Pretty sure Favre would give KC a simple :lmao: and hang up the phone.
Are they any worse of a landing spot for him than Baltimore? I'm pretty sure they have a better chance of reaching the playoffs in their division than the Ravens do in theirs, and throwing to Bowe and Gonzo wouldn't suck. Plus, KC has a history of having successful veteran QB's come through there, including Montana - it's practically the only way they know how to get QB's into their lineup there!

My thoughts exactly.

You maybe right, but I think the common perception is that Balt is a boarder line playoff team just short a QB. KC is a team in rebuild mode and one most foresee drafting in the top 3 come next April.

Yeah but Favre can't play in the cold. He's an old man.

I have been saying this the whole time, the call to acquire Favre has come from up above.
I ordered two lower bowl 15th row last night for $150 each...thought I screwed the pooch, but could come out with a nice profit!! That week will be insane.

They are back to normal prices. You may have lost a few bucks, but i think that's about what lower tickets are going for. Give or take $20.

I have an old college buddy who works at channel 12 WISN and he called me and says the guys in the sports department are saying that a deal between the Packer and Bucs has already been done and they are just trying to sell it to Favre. If the Bucs can convince Favre to restructure his contract they will offically announce the trade soon.
Call your imaginary friend back and tell him he sucks.

Yea...I don't think it'll kill me. Ill have to decide though whether to try to sell now or possibly wait to see what the demand is there with the Wisc faithful...maybe the Pack and Bucs start fast? The potential profit I missed hurts...but nothing like the Reebok rep I know...who is commissioned and currently having a good  !
