Favre mum on future, but says arm may be issue

By DENNIS WASZAK Jr. (AP Sports Writer)

From Associated Press

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Brett Favre insists he hasn't decided whether he'll return to the New York Jets next season, but says the health of his right arm could be a factor.

The 39-year-old quarterback has struggled for several weeks, with one touchdown and six interceptions. Favre's arm strength doesn't appear to be what it was earlier this season. That has led to speculation his right shoulder may be ailing, and Favre did little to dispel that notion Wednesday.

"During the course of the year, there was numerous times where I'd been asked about my shoulder and it had been hit a couple of times," Favre said. "I don't know. I mean, just knowing my body, there may be something, but there's no test yet to reveal anything."
I'm on the edge of my seat.

He plays his last game for FavreCo (The mighty Legion Of Doom) this week and then bows out as the only 4 time FFL champion in league history.

There, happy now?

In comes Matt Ryan to take us thru the next decade.

I said it when with the Packers and I will say it now.

This is pretty much nothing.

Yes, he does not know yet what he will do...he answers the questions and people will jump on it because it gets read and talked about.

Favre started this speculation over 4 years ago and has played it like a fiddle ever since.

It started way more than 4 years ago and it is driven by the media blowing it way out of proportion, not Favre.

If this was true, Favre wouldn't "insist" that he hasn't decided to retire or not. He would simply shrug his shoulders and move on to the next question. Favre seems to LOVE the attention that this question brings.

He leaves and waits until his body stops hurting. That's his tradition. By the draft he should decide. Don't expect it sooner.

I think he'll come back to the NFL next year, because the Arena League will be on vacation. But the year after, he'll be in the Arena League.

"Look at me, look at me."

No one cares anymore Brett. You made the right move last off-season. Now your starting to look like Unitas with the Bolts.

I'll make this simple for the clueless...

He wants to keep playing as long as he can play. He doesn't want to play if his skills erode greatly, but knowing when that is is hard. I say one more year if the Jets want him.

Don't you think it is funny that out of all the great football player who have retired over the years that Favre is the only one they have dragged out for 5 years?

if he does decide to retire, who do you think he ends up playing for next year?
Someone who will put up with all the offseason hemming and hawing, will let him come in at the very end of training camp, will make him the starter, will pay him a boatload of money, and will put up with him quitting when he wants to. Again.

The Jets should just trade him to Minnesota...

How did that poison pill go again?

Care to place a wager on that happening?

What is funny are the haters that want to make an issue about it.

Is this where you tell us the Packers have scored more points than the Jets?

Care to place a wager on that? He will announce his retirement well before the draft.

Not sure where this came from but looking at the NFL site right now the Jets and Packers are scoring 25.9 pts/game.

You missed in the long Rodgers thread where bcr8f was telling us the Packers have scored more points than the Jets?

Hi Mrs. Favre.

Hi Mrs. Favre.
I see you aren't willing place a wager on that.

Welcome to the off-season fun of having Brett Favre on your team in his later years. All Brett has to say is I will make choice when I do and move on to another question. No Brett decideds to play the media and the fans by talking about all kinds of scenarios with him staying or retiring.

He has spoke open and honestly about it when he has been asked about it yet his detractors will complain about this as well.If you know anything about him he avoids the media as much as he can in the offseason yet the detractors will call him a media whore. Borbely...you have no credibility on Favre since you actually think the Packers would have a worse record if Favre was their QB this year. You seem to be very biased against him.

From what I've seen he really didn't say anything about retiring. The press takes tiny things and blows them up.

In Green Bay he would hold press conferences and the media would come up with multiple scenarios and then they learned he has a press conference every wednesday.

Frankly they invent half this crap. He's not going to decide anything for several months. Quit looking for crap. I turn ESPN or whoever off when they even mention his ####### name. :goodposting:

Same media driven talk we will see in a few years concerning P. Manning, T. Brady and others. Those guys should thank Favre because once he does walk away, the question is going to turn to those guys. Nothing to see here.

Reading what he said, it sure sounds like he is tired and at the end of a career and ready to hang them up.Then again, we've heard that before. Then before that.and before that.So ultimately you're right in not reading anything concrete into it.

Correct, it was the media that aired Favre's comments yesterday. And the media that reported on Favre's decision to retire last year and aired his retirement speech. And before that it was the media that reported on Favre's statements back when he would take an entire off-season of stringing along Green Bay to decide if he was going to play the next year.In fact it was the media that reported Favre had contacted the Lions to give them his personal insider info in an effort to help the Lions beat the Packers.

:goodposting: Glad you came around. The media takes actions, statements, and blows them up. Often making incorrect assumptions of those actions and statements. The media over dramatizes things, not the player.

You mean, since I disagree with your opinion, I have no credibility? :hifive: Rodgers has played much better than Favre all year and has dome better at consistently moving the team and protecting the ball. I have no reason to believe they would be better. Crosby missed 2 game winning FGs, and unless Favre can make him a better kicker, he would have still missed them. The defense would still be bad no matter who the QB was, so I believe they would be where they are right now or worse. Whatever the Packers record would be with Favre is 100% speculation, and my speculation is just as credible as yours. I would agree with you if Favre was playing better, but he isn't.

I think that what is new here, is that we have seen over the last several games, age-related erosion in Favre's best attribute, his canon-like right arm. Call it "dead arm", perhaps some fraying in the labrum or RC joints, but we are seeing signs of his body breaking down. In games at NE and Tenn he was still rifling the ball into tight spaces. Not so much anymore and there have been several underthrown deep balls.

The JETS should "move on" and do so quickly during the off season. I'd love to see them make a play for McNabb or Cassell, to the extent that either are available.

What's really weird is when the media shows up for press conferences that were held just so that Brett can say I haven't made up my mind yet. What are they thinking?

I'm just happy that this circus act has moved to New York. There will be some great stories coming out of that city if Brett doesn't make a quick choice.

But I have been told there has been no circus there and the jets are better prepared for these things than the Packers were. :hophead:

The Brett Circus can't get as big in NY - The Jets don't have a legion of fans that grew up with him as a hero - The Jets don't have the Favre legacy with the franchise to worry about...When the offseason comes - the Jets will need to figure out what they want to do by a certain deadline and that will be that - No reason for them to hang onto Favre's words or any circus...That's all if they even want him back... Favre will get one shot to decide soon after the season. If he played a Great season this year then he might be able to play games and take his time - He didn't so, he's got really nothing to stand on here.

I have a tough time believing that regardless of what Favre wants to do that the Jets would bring him back after what hes shown on the field since the Titans game.

There's nothing to be prepared for..... In NY he's Just another old QB.He's not a hero in NY to say the least.... What made it a circus in GB were the fans and his legacy and how the oranization handled it's Hero and Fan perceptions....Seems like right now the majority of Jets fans are ready to move on...I'm mixed. It'll be as simple as one question after the season and a deadline.

For the last 5 years every time things are not going well Farve starts...."I am tired..I have a hard time preparing like I used to..the physical demands are too much..the game is not as much fun"

I like Farve but his act has grown old.

I'm mixed,When you listen to the players, it sounds like they have had some good practices and really bonded and enjoyed playing with Favre A LOT - It didn't translate on the field all the time but, I do think that's somewhat expected as the Jets totally adjusted their offense and IMO did a real bad job of transitioning in Favre. We also need to see his shoulder situation - I thought he took some hits mid season that would have easily put Chad on the DL and much of that was playcalling...When you go into KC and Oak, two of the wosrt run defenses and come out with an empty back field looking to showcase Favre, your coach is an idiot..... Favre got hit in those games and never needed to...The Jets should have remained a run first team and pounded the ball and then used Favre in situations with play action....
