Faxing Is Stupid (1 Viewer)

so I sent a check to someone using online bill pay (because checks are dumb and I hate writing them) and there was a misprint on my account number (leading digit left off by the bank) so the check was rejected for Invalid Account Number and the person got hit with a fee on top of having the deposit reversed.  Was only a $20 check so not like it's hurting them but still inconvenient

called the bank and apparently I have to Fax them a copy of the misprinted check so they can investigate and reverse it.   I asked if I could just email it but apparently it has to be faxed.  since I don't have a time machine to 1995 I guess I have to go over to Staples or something or wait until I go to work on Monday and try to figure out how to send a fax.  "hey how do I fax?  do I dial 9 first?  no.  no I cant email it.  I know dumb right?"

so dumb that in the year 2018 people still rely on that archaic technology

Tl;Dr Fax Machines are worse than @Frostillicus

I thought Apple did away with peripheral connections
I'm wireless, but I can hook printer up to a phone line.  We have one of those all-in-one printers.

Also, can use a number of e-fax type apps to send faxes from computer.  My wife used to have to fax a number of things when she worked from home.  Now, its mostly scan and email - but I know we can fax from home.

My understanding is that fax is more secure then email so many places prefer it for sensitive information.

Why can't you just resend the $20 plus fees to the intended recipient and forget about trying to "fix" the original transfer?

I assumed doctor offices still use it because their front office staff can barely tie their shoes, let alone operate computers.

lol I have to fax special ed paperwork to health facilities from time to time and I hate using the fax machine. I tried to insist on scanning and emailing but the officer told it wasn't secure enough. Maybe that's just their excuse.

One of the best cartoons I ever saw involved the hero woodpecker faxing himself around the world while the bad guy faxed himself after him in chase.

Hero was finally able to pull the plug on the last fax machine, trapping the bad guy into the void.

Or more likely that profits are tough to come by in the medical field, and thus, the continued usage of fax machines is their only option.

what the hell kind of cartoons are you watching Leroy?

For over a decade, when people asked, I would just say I didn't have a fax number. I'm sure we had one, but I honestly had no idea where in our building the fax machine was and just made a call that nothing anyone wanted to send by fax was worthwhile. Then, I made a career move and am much more involved in the healthcare area, and the fax machine is constantly humming.  Also, every ####in email is secured, so I have to sign in through a website to read it, and then we have a cumbersome process I need my assistant to follow in order to preserve the communication in our file system.

You know who needs to fax?

People who can't convert PDFs to Word Documents and back...
I am not sure i understand this. I would think the reason a bank employee needs a fax is because they may be prohibited from downloading attachments for security reasons.
Not to go political, but this is a reference to the part of the reasoning for Paul Manafort's latest indictment. He had been trading emails back and forth with his banker because he was unable to convert a PDF file to a Word Doc in order to make illegal changes. Left a very easy 'paper' trail.

Haha. Knew there was something i was missing.

I work at a major bank and we absolutely require a fax or a document to be sent via secure email.   In fact, my assistant got fired last week for accepting a letter of authorization from a client via email to do a wire, even though she had spoken to the client and verified over the phone the instructions were legit.  To much fraud can happen with email, people hacking your email account.

It’s not more secure. It’s still ones and zeros. The reason people believe it’s more secure is because it would be a hassle to hack faxes. So therefore it’s more secure.

Yeah looks like it involved me signing up for and account though that im sure will result in daily HEY DO YOU NEED TO FAX ANYTHING TODAY emails.
We had to use one of these sites.  Worked like a champ.  It helps if you have a garbage email account for this stuff.
