FBGs vs Kasparov- chess game- Draw agreed to (1 Viewer)

I got nothing at this point.  We've given him plenty of opportunities to make a mistake, but he's simply too good.  He isn't going to mess up.  If he has mis-stepped yet, I haven't seen it.

I vote we just start taking pieces, get us a king + pawn vs king draw (moral victory), and get Kaspy in here to comment.

Or, since this is for giggles, let's give Kaspy black and us take white and see if he can figure it out.

No matter what I try at this point, I just keep getting closer and closer to a draw.  I like your ideas

Re7 at least keeps the pressure on. We don't have any other moves that do that. I'm not sure where we go after Rb4+ and Rb1 but maybe he'll play something else. Guess we'll cross that bridge when...

anyhow: Re7

We've tried so damn hard. Maybe there never was a win here. Or maybe we're just not good enough to find it. I dunno.
Well, I assume Deep Blue wins this game from 20 moves ago and we probably missed something.  I think at this point, despite our material advantage, I just don't see how to press it home. The recap here will be fun.  Still, I think you've done a stellar job and have played really, really well.  It's been a fun format as I would have lost on my own a very long time ago.  This has been a blast. Thanks!

The first move that comes to mind is Re3 because I want to push the f pawn and get my pawns connected again.

I don't think black can allow that. Pretty sure that in response to Re3 he plays Rc5 attacking our bishop, and then Rf5. That's what I'm looking at.

Re3 Rc5 Bf6 Rf5 Bc3!

1. Bxc3 Rxc3 Re5 Re3!

2. Bxc3 Rxc3 kf2 f3

3. Bf2 and that's where the fun ends. Be5 but we could have played that all along.

So Re3 Rc5 ( I don't see any other good moves for white) Bf6 Rf5 (again no other good moves) Bc3 Bf2 (forced) Be5 Be1 (forced) and Kc6 and we're going to win by bringing our king up.

Please analyse this and let me know if I've made any errors this time.

Question for tim especially but others as well...

Do you feel like playing this game in this format has made you a better player?  I assume the answer will be a resounding yes.

If so, how much compared to other strategies, practice activities, games, etc. ???

Do you think the improvement is likely to carry over to individual games?

I hope it has made me a better player. I hope it carries over. I think this thread is instructive reading for anyone who is interested in learning about chess, and I am considering publishing it in a short book. A lot of the credit for that goes to Kaspy who continues to be nearly flawless in playing us- though I knew fromthe tournament he was a good player, I didn't know how good.

Bump. No response? I think this is the way.

Cool.  It would seem to me that having to post your thought process for others to analyze while at the same time getting different perspectives on different situations would be a very effective way to improve, especially once a plateau has been reached.

I'll be quiet now and go back to watching the action

OK since there's been no response, since we've discussed it before, since I can't find a better move and since I think I've mapped out a winning strategy, I'm going to play Re3.

Furthermore so long as things stay according to plan I'm going to continue to make moves. If things go off kilter (as they usually do) Ill stop.
