Fears of a US military draft cause Selective Service System website crash (1 Viewer)

I saw this article and was surprised to see this was even being talked about.  From a military perspective, I don't think people need to worry about a Military Draft.  We don't fight wars the same way we used to and a ground invasion into Iran has always been considered a poor option due to the terrain.

(CNN)The Selective Service website crashed Friday because of "the spread of misinformation," the agency tweeted.

The website's crash came hours after the announcement that the head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force, Qasem Soleimani, was killed by a US airstrike ordered by President Donald Trump. The hashtag #WorldWarIII was one of the top trends on Twitter Friday.

The incident led to threats of retaliation from Iran's government and the escalation of tensions between the US and Iran. It sparked fears on social media of a war between the two countries and the possibility of another military draft in the US.

"Due to the spread of misinformation, our website is experiencing high traffic volumes at this time," the Selective Service tweeted. "If you are attempting to register or verify registration, please check back later today as we are working to resolve this issue. We appreciate your patience."

1. kids are dumb.

2. the government probably didn't devote a whole lot of server power to the selective service website.

Ground invasion of Iran will turn into vietnam 2.0.
No one is talking about an invasion of Iran, let alone a use of ground forces,  any attacks on US resources will be met quickly with drone attacks, cruse m., and the most feared aircraft in the world.   The F35.  Yes, Israel has F35’s and could be powerful ally.  Iran absolutely fears the F35.  Now their could be lost of American life’s at Middle East installments which would be met with 10 fold loss of resources for Iran.  I am praying for peace, but their is a plan b.

I get that the F35 is in a class of its own, but your particular affinity for the jet is...unusual, for lack of a better term. Are you a pilot or aviation junkie or something? Unless I’m mistaking posters this is maybe the 3rd or 4th time I’ve heard you say that the f35 is both the most powerful and feared aircraft in the world. I’m not sure this would be quite the walk in the park you’re making it out to be. Iran isn’t 1996 Iraq, at least I don’t think. I’ll certainly admit I don’t know as much about Mideast policy and history or current military capabilities and alliances as some here do.

Aroo? What was going on in 1996 besides Bombing Sudanese medical facilities?

Our executive branch is dumb, kids are rightfully concerned about their future on many fronts.
Do we have to be a kid to be concerned about the future?

Maybe we should set up an old guy draft. Save our youth for something more productive.

I asked my daughter about this story and she told me that, according to a couple of her friends, there's new selective service questions that have been attached to student loan renewal applications. Most likely that has nothing to do with anything going on in the Middle East, but I can see how the timing might cause concern.

I don't think so but the post I quotes explicitly were calling kids dumb so I was addressing that.
