Felix Jones/DeMarco Murray Discussion Thread (1 Viewer)

I think Felix Jones is made of glass. He always seems to go from 1 injury to another. Any thoughts if Murray will break any more records his rookie season? I kinda feel like dropping Jones for Murray.

Murray has the job right now and I think they'll split when Felix gets back. Or they'll just use Felix as the 3rd down back.

Felix is going to have to go nuts to earn a feature role back and I just don't see it happening.

They call me Mr. Glass.

Felix has a certain skill set that will keep him viable all year, provided he is healthy. I think it would be naive to think, however, that Murray hasn't earned himself a bit more playing time. If he keeps it up, I think he earns a bit more.

If Murray can follow up last week with another good game, I don't see him losing the job.
This in spades.Murray is obviously a better runner than Felix. My take is that Felix would be a 3rd down back, where I think Felix's talents are immense. He can catch the ball and is very dangerous in space. Felix just can't take that much punishment and stay healthy.Murray has another good matchup against PHI, who's run D is very suspect. So going forward, I see Murray getting 2/3 of the carries, with Felix spelling him and taking the 3rd down role.

I wouldn't drop Jones for Murray. Add Murray and find someone else to drop....until we know exactly how it's going to shake out when Felix gets healthy.

The Cowboys would still like Felix Jones to be "their guy" this year... I think this is a tricky one for fantasy owners, once Felix comes back. Likely a very frustrating committee to figure out.

Didn't Murray catch more passes than any other rookie RB that came out this year? He's got some pass catching skills as well.Caught 71 passes last year and had 5 TDs though the air at OKieState...

I agree that this becomes a committee approach when Felix returns, significantly limiting any of the Dallas RB's value. It is to the point that Felix is becoming WW material in smaller leagues/smaller rosters given his limited upside (based on what we know currently) when he does return. Again, I can't believe I drank the koolaid and bought into all the Felix Jones preseason hype :wall:

What are you getting?

Was just offered CJ500, not sure if it's worth biting on.

If this were any other year I'd say bite on it... but this season CJ40ypg seems very out of sync. It definitely seems like he got paid and now lost all interest. I'd keep Murray as he is the rookie who was a 3rd string RB coming into the season and now has a chance to prove something. Similar to the way Foster proved something last season when he got his chance working his way up from the practice squad. Don't for a second think I mean that Murray is this year's (mid season) Foster. However I wouldn't doubt he has the better season than CJ40ypg from here on out.

Obviously Murray was impressive last week, but the Ram defense has been brutal all year against the run. It certainly helps the statline to start the game off with a 91 yard TD where you're not even close to being touched. The hole he ran thorugh was HUGE and I'm not sure where the secondary was because Murray only had to beat one safety who took a terrible angle at him. This isn't meant to disparage Murray. I started him and was quite pleased - but it wasn't like he was tearing up the league with his carries in the previous 5 games.

When I picked up Murray last week, I said that I wanted one of two things to happen, since I own Murray and Jones.

1. Murray plays lights out and dominates.

2. Murray plays terribly.

Last week was great, and if he performs well again this week, I think he's the new starter in Dallas. The reason that I made the claim above was because a solid, middle of the road performance by Murray makes this a terrible time share where both players lose value.

If Murray does in fact take the starting job and get 2/3 of the carries, this could make the Dallas backfield a nice investment. Jones as a third down back would actually be a solid flex play some weeks, even with Murray starting.

I think that the Dallas coaches are thinking the same as us. Let's see what the kid can do and take it from there. Murray will get a couple of more starts before Felix comes back. The better Murray plays, the more action he'll get in games when Felix returns. They know what they have with Felix, now they'll see what they have in Murray. If Murray continues to play at a high level I believe he will start and receive 60-70% of the carries going forward. If he struggles I could see more of an even split with Felix.

Felix = Glass

Murray = Glass

Philip Tanner. I'm buying.

Seriously, Murray is great as long as he stays healthy and a good bet to stay the starter. But I really do expect him to be injured quickly. That was his book at OK (and is Felix's book in the NFL). I guess that by the time Jones is ready to come back, Murray will be hurting and ready to go back to the bench. At least this year.

JMHO

Tanner.

My my this thread looks and reads a lot like the foster/Tate thread in the preseason.

Felix is the cowboys primary rb. One game against a team that has been gashed by everyone fueled the speculation flames but there is no reason to accept the results of one game against the worst defense the cowboys have faced versus accepting the five games previously. Murray has looked average against all the other opponents and sometimes games like this just happen, especially when a team is hit for a big play early. This is really no different than torry smith and Joe flacco lighting up the rams and looking like world beaters a few weeks ago. How did they look this past week?

A good number of people are just trying to be like they were with Tate and making This more than it is. But in reality, Murray will look much more typical this week, even against a bad eagles run D and when Felix returns, maybe Murray separated himself from choice and gets the clear change of pace but he did not Suddenly push Felix out of the job or into a third down role.

I am not buying the Glass label for Murray... yeah, I am an owner. He did get hurt, but he actually played hurt often. That to me is a big sign he is committed to the game. He won't sit out with a hangnail like Addai or Beanie. He tied Adrian Peterson's record for Most TD's as a Freshman (15). He had 282 carries AND 71 receptions in 2010 for over 1800 yards & 20 TD in 14 games. THAT IS AN AVERAGE OF 25 TOUCHES PER GAME. That kind of wear & tear will generate injuries. The fact he played with the injuries speaks more to me.

Please don't ever compare Felix to Foster. Hell, Tate is better than Felix.

I was high on Jones, and he just can't stay healthy nor has he proven that he can do what Murray just did, whether it was a good or bad team that he piled up numbers against. It's Murray's time to shine - if he does, it's his job. If he doesn't, Jones will likely get another shot. I have no doubt that Jones will at least be a 3rd down, type of back when he's back but Murray has a chance to take the job.

I thought he looked great as a frosh, and I agree he has played hurt. But if he was often hurt going against Big 12 defenses (most of which were very undersized), what is going to happen with repeated exposure to the beasts in the NFL. He is going to get beat up. Personally, I am rooting for the guy. Great heart, deserves the success. He reminds me alot of AP and, even more so, Trent Richardson (still playing at Alabama). But he has been prone to injury - no way to avoid the label - even more than AP was in college. Richardson has been solid (injury wise) by comparison. My honest, not fishing guess, is 2/3 of the carries this week, 1/3 to Tanner (assuming Choice is out with the shoulder). But it would not surprise me to see him tweak something. Phili plays tough off a bye.

Beat writer Brandon George expects a fairly even carry split between Felix Jones and DeMarco Murray once Jones returns from his ankle sprain.

George believes Jones will return as the nominal starter, but Murray has earned a larger role with an average of 9.9 yards per carry over the past two weeks. It's the type of situation that lends itself to a hot hand approach.

Beat writer Brandon is incorrect - if Murray continues to run the ball the way he has, they aren't going to limit his carries for Felix Jones. Jones will get a 3rd down role.

How many times did people day this about marion barber when he was behind julius jones I think that felix will still receive around 10 carries a game and that leaves the other 10 to 12 for murray and thats if dallas even runs the ball that much which is most of the find highly unlikely

Murray only missed a few games in college. His most serious injury was a dislocated kneecap. That kind of thing could happen to anybody.

It was recently reported that Jones hasn't even started running yet. We'll be seeing the Murray/Tanner show for a little while yet

@calvinwatkins Calvin Watkins Felix Jones (ankle) said he hasn't started running yet.

The best thing that can happen for DeMarco to see more and more carries is to have Felix come back. He'll be limping to the sidelines by the end of his 2nd carry.

I handcuffed Felix in my league and with good reason. Felix has had two separate injuries so far this year (shoulder, ankle) and I think if he comes back his touches will be limited - max 60/40 split even if murray stumbles a bit in the next week or two. Jones is not a 3 down back. There'll be limited upside to both players (although I do think both will be viable fantasy starts- murray low WR2 and Felix as a Flex in PPR, when felix returns but Murray will see the majority of the work. I my 2c.

Murray is substantially better then jones. Having watched every game for years (and writing most of the fbg cowboys recaps) it is VERY clear to me that Murray is much better suited to the cowboys run game. He isn't as upright but runs a lot like Arian foster. Go demarco

I have a strong dislike for the Cowboys, but as someone who owns Tony Romo and Demarco Murray (and Felix), I haev spent a lot of time watching their games this year. Demarco Murray is just a fun guy to watch play. I really hope that the Cowboys aren't dumb enough to just hand the starting job back to Felix. He is better in every aspect of the game. He's a more dynamic runner, a better blocker, better on the goal line, and at least equal as a receiver out of the backfield.
