FF2008 - The New England Patriots Strategy (1 Viewer)

It is pretty obvious that one could have built an elite fantasy team this year simply by drafting as many New England Patriots as possible. Do you think this will cause these guys to be overvalued in 2008 fantasy drafts?

that depends.

if there is a scandal next year in week 1 that makes the entire world debate about whether or not the pats dynasty is a fraud, then taking a bunch of pats will be a good move again.

otherwise, the pats could likely go back to being content with just winning games (as opposed to embarassing them). in that case, patriot players would go back to being incredibly frustrating to own.

where do you guys come up w/this?you read it in a column, or on some message board and then just parrot it back on more message boards, at work, or wherever?do you realize how strange it is to observe one event, observe a second event, and then convince yourself that the second must be caused by the first?that's borderline mental illness.that's like back in olden times when the primitives would think an eclipse was somehow connected to whatever bull#### they were doing in their huts.how about week 1 --- what was the 'chip on their shoulder' when they blew out the jets?how about last year when they were kicking teams in the nuts w/doug gabriel, reche caldwell, and jabar gaffney?did you just start watching football this year, or have you read some interviews w/players where they've said they're going to destroy the nfl to send some sort of message?

I already tried to do that this year.you guys are a year late.
Were you successful? Given the ADP of their players, it is conceivable that one could have landed Maroney (1st round), Brady (3rd), Moss (4th), Stallworth (5th), DST (8th), Watson (9th), Welker (10th), Gostkowski (13th)I see every one of these guys (except Maroney) with a vastly lower ADP next year.

I had no interest in maroney because of sammy.

I took brady in the second, some guy beat me to moss in the 4th, another pats fan snapped up welker because I thought he'd drop, I took their def earlier than I probably should have, then picked sammy off the fa pool and traded for watson.

made a push for moss before the season started, but this guy wasn't answering his messages.

I didn't want gostkowski because that would make my bye week too tough, and even though his owner dropped him to get through week 10, I'm not even sure I want him --- they just don't kick field goals.

overall, I'd say it worked out ok for me, but I'm still pissed about moss and welker.

oh yeah -- the guy that grabbed welker also took stallworth, but I can live w/that.

now that sammy's out, I'm going to see if I can get maroney.

it's going to suck next year because I'll be picking at the bottom and probably won't get a sniff at any of these guys.

A lot of people picked a lot of Seahawks last year based on the high powered offense the SB year, didn't work out too well for them. I think Pats will be overvalued next year and may go earlier than is prudent. It's always a risk to assume a team will keep up a blistering pace on offense. Other AFC teams will be looking to load up to stop the Pats, just as the Pats loaded up with Thomas to stop Dallas Clark. If Pats are around when I think it's appropriate then I'll take them over other similarly ranked players, but to go into the draft assuming they will repeat their performance isn't necesarily a good strategy.

Chasing last year's numbers doesn't usually work.

Remember how high Manning and Culpepper were getting drafted after 2004?

Remember how much people were trading away to get LT after 2006?

What will you a league in 2007 isn't necessarily the same as what will win you a league in 2008. Brady, Moss, and Welker are having insane seasons beyond even the most optimistic projections. I highly doubt they'll duplicate the success next year. They might still be good players to have on your team, but they'll regress.

I think you missed the point of the post. His contention is that the patriots will be overrated in next years' draft.
FF2008 - The New England Patriots Strategy, Will you try to draft as many Patriots as possible?
Do you think this will cause these guys to be overvalued in 2008 fantasy drafts? (Look kids, I can post in big fonts too)

Noone cares about your team.
