FFA Movie Poll - 2007 Lists due 8/12 (1 Viewer)

HM observations;

Saw IV got votes...

Grindhouse didn't crack 50 points...

Dead Silence outperformed 1408 and 28 Weeks Later (not to mention several quality non-horror films)...

Odd outcome
Just think - by_the_sea didn't submit an official list, or there probably would have been more "odd outcomes"

Dead Silence was just 1 person voting and giving it 30 as well.

I am not going to go to bat for the Saw movies, but I remember thinking the even numbered ones were better.

I wonder if Grindhouse as the combo hurt it a little?  I think somebody posted about wanting to give one movie points and the other negative points, and that's how I felt.  I just saw the movies the one time, but I remember hating Planet Terror, but thinking Death Proof was "ok".

I agree with some of this review. I really, really disliked this movie.
I agree with the reviewer that he was an idiot (I was on a tour bus near Denali a few years back and the driver went on a pretty lengthy rant about McCandless and what the locals thought of him, which matched that as well).

But I still liked the movie.  I thought it was an interesting character study.  I had a "well, he got what was coming for him" reaction when he died, but maybe that was not the typical reaction to it.

exactly. the kid being an idiot or behaving in a way we don't agree with really shouldn't have any affect on whether you consider this is a good movie or not. it's well made/crafted and well acted with some beautiful shots. I already don't remember if it made my top 20, but I'm sure it would on a given day.

My recollection (I had basically forgotten about this movie until it came up here), is that I felt like the story of this guy's life just wasn't interesting or compelling enough to merit the time I took to watch the film.

Fair enough- his behavior does affect the plot... So I get not liking it for that reason. I read the book and thought he was pretty uninteresting ultimately... those of us born or living in and around the 60s knew lots of these kids.

It's been a while since I read the book too, but I thought that while a bit unprepared, there was also a bit of bad luck that caught up with him in the end.   Weren't the berries that took him out just slightly different than non-toxic ones (light stripe on them or something?) and he tried to walk for help and if he went a little further (or in another direction?) there was a station fairly close by that might have gotten him through.  Again, he probably should have known that.   Still undertaking a big and probably unnecessary risk, but I didn't get the impression that he was quite as stupid as people try to paint him as.

Great point, and I wonder if that was what a lot of the push back was from.  Nothing more than what 1000s of kids were doing then.  it probably felt fresh for young pups like me, but 'been there, done that' for people slightly older.

Planet Terror was garbage but the nature of the whole project left me wondering if that the point of the movie.  I thought the concept alone was worth 5 points in a year where I didn't watch a whole of movies.  If Planet Terror was better, it still probably would have topped out near 5 points.

Krakauer has changed his theory five or six times since the book came out.  I was just reading the latest, and he apparently came out with a new theory in 2015 that it was an amino acid in the potato seeds that he ate in too much concentration.  The science is still a bit weak though.

I was the opposite - I thought that Planet Terror was decent but that Death Proof was awful and probably Tarantino's worst film.

Again.....this shows just how crappy this year was for movies.......I had so many good horror flicks in my list.

This top 25 was....yawn.....utterly awful.
