Took my son last year for his first time....he loved it. So did we.
We are going again. It will be an annual thing.
I used to go in my early 20's stopped going in 96.
They do an awesome job.

Saw Sinister last night and I'm kind of torn on it. Loved the creepiness of the home movies, but an ancient Babylonian demon (or whatever it was) masquerading as someone that looks like the lead singer of a goth metal band was ridiculously dumb. I would've rather they stuck with the serial killer direction the first half of the movie was headed.

We paid extra for fast pass (it's not cheap extra $50 bucks) but so worth it. Barely any waits with that compared to the regular lines and we were able to walk through the houses multiple times.

Binged on a bunch of movies on my watchlist. None of them blew me away.
The Taking of Deborah Logan - The best of the bunch. Alzheimer's patient get slowly possessed by something and does weird ####. The actress playing the alzheimer's patient was really good and her character was incredibly creepy. Parts of the ending were, but still a good payoff.
The Last Exorcism - Meh. This one had a ton of potential but fell apart as it went on. Preacher who doesn't really believe in demons and does exorcisms as a psychological treatment goes to visit a girl who might actually be possessed. I think it would've been better had they left it up in the air as to whether she was really possessed or not.
The Bay - This one was a bit of a mess. An ecological disaster caused by chicken #### causes sea lice to grow to the size of mice and burrow their way out of everyone in a small town. There were too many POVs and you never really cared about any of the characters. Still had its moments though. Also, they hit you over the head with the film's environmental message like a hammer.
Creep - A guy answers a Craigslist ad from a guy who wants to be videotaped for a day and he turns out to be a total creep. I was a little bored with this one. It's incredibly predictable and some parts just didnt work. Still, the performance of the guy playing the creep was really good.

wife is going out of town today and tomorrow so I may binge on some of my netflix and amazon watch lists.
I have both Haunting in Connectictut movies, Bell Witch haunting, Human Centipede, The Awakening, and Grave Encounters and a few others in my queue. Gonna be a ####ed up Sunday.

Scratch the Human Centipede. It's not a horror movie, more like an "original" take on torture porn. Unless you're into that kind of thing.

IMO Human Centipede and Grave Encounters are the only two worth watching on the list.
Of course he didn't seem to like The Bay much, and I thought that was one of the better found footage movies I have seen.

You have to admit that Human Centipede and Grave Encounters are nothing alike other than their classification as horror. You don't really need a strong stomach to watch Grave Encounters while Human Centipede shows people ####ting in each other's mouths. Like I said, if you're into that kind of crap, well then have it. But let's not pretend it's not disgusting simply to be disgusting.

That term annoys me in general because it seems to be thrown about by people who are ignorant to the genre or what the movie is about. It double annoys me when people who seem to be a fan of the horror genre use it. I liked Human Centipede because it does what I think good horror should do - lets your imagination get the better of you. Hearing what the movie was about had me cringing before putting it in. I was squirming while he was explaining to them what he was going to do to them. Then the #### hits the fan, and it isn't even that bad. What I imagined was worse (probably says something about me), and I liked the movie for that. (surprisingly it is not because I am "into" watching people eat ####)
As far as gore - it wasn't even that bad, it just crosses an imaginary line so people put it in the "torture porn" group. Let's not pretend that it says any more or less than any other movie in the genre. Let's also not pretend that it is any gorier than others in the genre - I would bet stuff like the Evil Dead remake, Hills Have Eyes, TCM, Hatchet, etc.. are a lot bloodier. "Weird guy stalks and randomly tortures/kills people" probably could be used for most movies in the genre. Maybe I am in the minority, but I think movies that are labeled that (Saw, Hostel, H.Centipede and the like) end up trying to say a little more about us than a lot of other movies that are gorier with similar themes that don't get labeled that. (plus they are better than 70% of the dreck that is put out for horror movies every year)

Ended up watching most of these but not all.
Haunting in Connecticut was not very good. Only made it through the first one. The Awakening was a decent Sixth Sense type movie if a little boring at times.
The Bell Witch Haunting started out promising. The world's worst brother/son gets a camera for his birthday right after moving into a ...surprise..! haunted house. Why is he the world's worst brother? Well there's the time he runs into his sister's room while she's getting tossed around like a rag doll and screaming through a night terror. Does he try to help? Nope, just sits there and conveniently records for us. Or maybe there's the time he kept the camera on his dad's face while his dad was puking blood instead of calling 911 or getting help. Just meh all around. The movie had no opening or ending credits which was a cool effect for a found footage video.
Grave Encounters. You know how in every single haunted house movie you get one or multiple scenes where the ghost will be visible within camera shot for a second, then the character turns around or turns on a light and poof, its gone? It's a very overdone jump scare and I was starting to ask myself when will a movie come out where the ghost actually sticks around longer than a split second and maybe chases people around or does something interesting. This is that movie and its one of the main reasons I liked it. It even roped me into watching the sequel which was not as good but still not bad.

I thought The Bay was good. I never get hung up on the political messages and just ignore them really. I have found it is much easier to enjoy a movie if you look past politics.
Havent seen Creep yet, probably will soon.

Do not follow this advice.
HC is not for everyone obviously, but if you like wacked out stuff then it is right up your alley, and judging by your queue, you do.
I have a feeling you will like HC and Grave Encounters (though since this was like 2 weeks ago, what did you think??).

Saw Green Inferno and The Visit over the weekend. Enjoyed them both and both had their issues.
Inferno had a few scenes that were extremely questionable
. While there was one scene (the same one shown in the rated R trailer) that was pretty brutal, the rest of the film is on par with the current state of theatrical releases as far as gore goes. Inferno is worth seeing, its just not great. I would give it 6.5 Consumed Eyeballs out of 10

It's October!!!! So what are some of your Halloween movie rituals when it comes to horror films?
My kid and I watch every Halloween movie in order the week of Halloween. Plus we always watch the original on Halloween night.
Typically in the month of October we watch the Nightmare On Elm Street Films (just 1,3,and 4 the rest are garbage).
We love to watch John Carpenters The Fog and The Thing. He is really big into The Purge and Purge Anarchy (I dig those flicks too). And we watch Dead Silence now as well.
My wife and I watch:

Insidious and Insidious 2
The Shining

I don't have certain ones that I have to watch every year. My ritual used to be try and watch a good 10-15 horror movies that I haven't seen before. Seems like I either have seen too many or the hit rate of good ones I have seen recently is too low that I stopped doing that a couple years ago too.
Now I usually just try to watch 10-15 in general over the month. Usually start off lighter, and then try to go scarier as I get to Halloween itself. Trying to get my hands on What We Do in the Shadows for the weekend, but have rewatched Army of Darkness and Shaun of the Dead so far this month. Was going to do Cabin in the Woods in the next couple nights as well. Was going to end the month with rewatching The Orphanage, but other than that, I was going to wing it. Still looking for some scary ones and am open to suggestions. Maybe I will look through this thread again to see if something sounds interesting.

Thought it was a lot better than Insidious 2.
I have it coming today on BD. Look forward to seeing it again. I thought it had a lot of great scenes and some well timed humor.

You know I bought this movie, watched it once and then said, "Yeah, I doubt I will ever watch that again." (mainly because of all the animal abuse scenes :X ) and I get the same vibe without seeing it, that Green Inferno is just a basic remake of it.
Insidious 3 was sort of a disappointment, Really liked the 1st one,, the 2nd one was okay. The only thing the 3rd one brought to the table IMO was the backstory about how the paranormal investigators got together.
Some of you mentioned Hellions above--the movie has a good premise, but the directors insistence on using colors really detracts from the movie.. I mean all of a sudden the sky is bright pink---ooooohhh, scary.
