It's October!!!! So what are some of your Halloween movie rituals when it comes to horror films?

You know I bought this movie, watched it once and then said, "Yeah, I doubt I will ever watch that again." (mainly because of all the animal abuse scenes :X ) and I get the same vibe without seeing it, that Green Inferno is just a basic remake of it.Insidious 3 was sort of a disappointment, Really liked the 1st one,, the 2nd one was okay. The only thing the 3rd one brought to the table IMO was the backstory about how the paranormal investigators got together.

Some of you mentioned Hellions above--the movie has a good premise, but the directors insistence on using colors really detracts from the movie.. I mean all of a sudden the sky is bright pink---ooooohhh, scary.

not by a long shot...I am an animal lover and advocate though.

I don't get off on watching animals being hurt.

And the abuse didn't do anything to advance the story at all. It was just hey, let stick a knife into the monkey and watch him suffer or lets tear the shell off that big turtle and film him bleeding to death. It made no point. I doubt any of you want to see that, so I am not going to bother with spoiler tags.

Now in movies where say the family dog is slaughtered by the killer as he is trying to get to the family, I don't go "Oh, I hate this movie, because the dog was killed." That made sense the killer would do that and frankly that was a stuffed dog.

But the randomness of the animal cruelty in that movie was just akin to Faces of Death (which I have seen them all). It was just exploitive and used just for shock value.

I haven't seen Cannibal Holocaust yet, but this sounds pretty cool.

There are also at least 2 (maybe 3 its been awhile ) rapes and while I probably should put this in a spoiler (I won't) one of the most realistic scenes of a guy having his manhood removed with a knife.

So if this sounds like stuff you want to see--this movie is for you.

I saw it once and said, "That's enough for me. Thank you,"

Watched 2 fairly dull flicks last night.

Lake Mungo - A documentary style take on a ghost story involving a family and their 16 year old daughter who drowned in a lake. I had high hopes for this as I had heard good things, but it just kind of fell flat for me. It's not a bad film, it just never really takes off or really develops into anything.

Maggie - In the midst of a zombie virus outbreak, Ahhnold protects his infected daughter as she slowly transforms. Love the concept of the film, and it has one of the better and more realistic ways a zombie outbreak could happen, but again, it's just kind of dull. You never really care enough about any of the characters for the payoff at the end to mean anything.

Lake Mungo is pretty slow moving. Wish they had more of the footage to bolster the plot.

The Gallows was pretty Meh.....

My 16 year daughter saw it in the theater and was really hyping it up as a super scary movie. It wasn't at all. I poop more scary things this. And at just an hour and 15 minutes long, it is really not worth paying for on PPV like we did last night.

The only saving grace of the movie was the cute cheerleader--though there is no nudity or anything in it.

Going to try out Tales of Halloween here. It is 10 tales that are somehow all connected ala Trick or Treat.

The Taking of Deborah Logan - The best of the bunch. Alzheimer's patient get slowly possessed by something and does weird ####. The actress playing the alzheimer's patient was really good and her character was incredibly creepy. Parts of the ending were, but still a good payoff.

The ####### scene, you know the one

Enjoyed the movie the whole way and then near the end I started to get legitimately unsettled.

The Ring - a truly suspenseful Gothic horror film IMO. If you never saw it....highly recommend it.

Shutter Island - although not horror has a really great level of tension and is creepy being it takes place in a lunatic asylum. I thought Leonardo was a monster in this film.

If you really want to scare the living crap out of yourself and the GF watch Insidious. Also Dead Silence is really full of suspense and tension. Great horror movie.

Insidious is quite possibly the scariest movie my wife and I have ever seen. Turn off every single light and dive in. It is a monster in the genre. You will end up wanting to see chapter 2 and 3 and I can say chapter 2 is good (not great) and chapter 3 is very good.

Trust me your hair will be standing on your necks and she will be terrified and hold on to you tightly. It is a great, atmospheric, as well as character driven horror movie not dependent on gore. It is pure sheer terror and the music is A+++

It Follows is a very cool, retro, white trashy teen horror movie. It really is a great "cult classic to be". I recommend that as well. That would be a hell of a double feature.

I would watch Insidious first and foremost. The first 25-30 minutes is getting the set-up. Once it kicks in......buckle up for in trip into the horror minds of James Wan and Leigh Whannel

Yes.

There are some moments you will be able to catch your breath watching It Follow's. It is a low budget "B" type flick (with also a great soundtrack) that is a charming Horror movie for those of us who grew up in the 80's. Some sheer moments of terror make no mistake. But not the tour De Force that is:

I thought the first 1/2 of Insidious was great, then it gets too campy. IMO The Conjuring kept up the scares and is a bit better movie. I remember liking Sinister a little more than Insidious as well.

And yeah, if you can do subtitles, The Orphanage was every bit as scary as I remember it being.

Chapter 2 is good but not as good as the first. Chapter 3 though is really really creepy. It is actually a prequel to chapter 1.

Highly recommend watching all 3 straight through if one can handle it. Crazy ####.

About to pop on It Follows to watch with my wife. Just finished Halloween and Halloween 2.....my son just passed out. We had an awesome Halloween as always. We both dress up as Michael Myers...deck out our yard... have the Halloween soundtrack on a loop, fog machine etc, scare the living crap out of pre teens and middle school teens...adults too. Best holiday bar none.

Tales of Halloween was a lot of fun tonight on PPV---basically 10 sort of intertwined stories like Trick of Treat. There were a couple meh stories, but overall, a fun, gory ride.

Alright... Insidious didn't happen due to two folks having seen it and not enjoying it. So... We opened with It Follows. Fun flick! Very well done.. Good pacing. Nice build. The cheeesy keyboard got a little overbearing at times but I get it. It was a pretty big hit.. I'd say it got a 7.5 or 8.0 by the group.

The next feature left us searching... We settled on "The Conjuring" and damn I'm glad we did! Huge hit. Had my GF leaping up repeatedly next to me. Others jumped. Great story. Nice twists. Perfect compliment to it Follows. 9.0 IMO.

Fun addendum: the conjuring takes place in harrisville, RI and historical incidents around the story spread out to neighboring burriville RI and uxbridge MA. All are VERY small towns and within a few miles of each other. I grew up in The southern side of Uxbridge near the RI border (a mile or two max) and the first town across the border was burriville/Harrisville.

So apparently I grew up in the immediate viscinity of all that stuff. Pretty cool to read up on.

Looked jnto it a little more... That house is now referred to as "old brook farm"... Jesus I know EXACTLY where that place is. Must have driven/walked/ridden bike past it hundreds of times as a kid. Had NO idea.

Just mapped it out. My childhood home was 2.3mi as the crow flies from the house...5.1mi on the twisty roads in that part of the country. My cousins' house where I spent a lot of time as a kid was quite literally around the corner from it.

Crazy. How did we never hear about any of this as kids

Edit: one of my cousins just messaged saying she had a friend who lived in the house for a while... Confined there's some "very freaky stuff that goes down on that property". Waiting for more details

Annabelle was decent but I felt let down. It cannot compete with Conjuring.. I do like the background story behind the doll though pretty cool

I didn't like insidious 1 & 2. I felt like the whole netherworld plot distracted from the scary parts.

Indeed. That movie was going so well and then it went off the rails. The ending made a really good movie into a bad movie overall. Sad.

I see a lot of people talking up Insidious 3. I might have to check it out.
